Chapter 33 Breach
Chapter 33 Breach
POV: Aria
The Citadel doors explode inward.
Resistance fighters pour through like a flood. Thorne's newly converted guards fight right beside them without hesitation. This is what redemption looks like. Warriors choosing the right side even when it costs everything.
I move through the chaos like wind. Kael's consciousness is with me, guiding every step, anticipating every attack. When guards come at me from the left, I feel his presence alert me before my eyes even register them. When someone tries to flank me, his ancient knowledge of combat takes over.
We're unstoppable together.
A Council guard lunges with a sword. I disarm him with blue light crackling from my hands. Another tries to grab my arm. I move past him so fast he can't even react. We're cutting through their defenses like they're paper.
But then something changes.
A guard's blade catches my shoulder and it's not normal pain. It burns. The metal sizzles against my skin like it's trying to eat through me. Silver. Not regular silver. This is enchanted silver. Designed specifically to disrupt Alpha bonds.
I gasp. Through the bond, I feel Kael's immediate concern.
Aria, his presence floods with fear, that's not normal pain
I know, I tell him through the bond, pushing past the burning sensation. Just keep moving
More guards appear. These ones are equipped with the same silver weapons. Their whole squad is outfitted to fight Alphas. To fight me.
A blade cuts across my arm. Another burns along my ribs. Each one sends fire through my body that normal wounds wouldn't cause. The silver is trying to sever my connection to Kael. Trying to rip us apart at the magical level.
I keep fighting anyway.
Blood runs down my side but I don't stop. Can't stop. Not when we're this close.
Kael's presence wraps around me like armor. Not protecting me from the pain. Supporting me through it. His determination becomes my determination. His ancient strength becomes my strength. Every time the silver burns, he pushes back against it with everything he has.
I'm bleeding but I'm still moving. I'm weak but I'm still fighting.
Fenris appears through the chaos with a handful of warriors at his back. He sees the blood on my clothes and his weathered face goes hard.
We need to reach the ritual chamber, he says, not bothering with words. Just pure urgency through the bond we all share. Now
I nod and we fight our way deeper into the Citadel. The resistance follows. Guards fall back. They're losing ground. Not because they're weak but because they don't believe in what they're fighting for anymore.
The Council had everyone convinced the lie was truth.
But truth doesn't need convincing.
We push deeper. Toward the center of the Citadel. Toward where Matthias waits.
My vision starts to blur at the edges. Blood loss. The unnatural burns from the silver weapons. The effort of maintaining this much power while merged with Kael. It's all taking a toll.
I feel myself weakening.
But the moment I stumble, Kael's presence surges. He doesn't take control. Doesn't override my will. He just pushes harder. Gives more. Strengthens me from the inside out.
I'm fine, I tell him, though I'm not sure it's true. Stay with me
His response floods through every part of me. Always
We reach a corridor that branches toward the ritual chamber. Fenris is right beside me. The resistance is pushing guards back. We're going to make it.
Then Raven appears from a side door.
Her face is flushed. Her breathing is hard. But there's something else in her expression. Urgency mixed with dread.
Damon opened the ritual chamber from inside, she says quickly, like she needs to get the words out before anything else happens. He knows the ward sequences. He managed to unlock it
Relief floods through me. We have a way in.
But she's not done talking.
But Matthias is there. And so is Lyanna
The words hit like a physical blow.
Lyanna. The sister I've been trying to rescue. The sister who I thought was trapped and helpless.
Lyanna is in the ritual chamber with Matthias.
And I don't know if she's there as victim or as part of his plan.
