Chapter 84 WATCHING

Chapter 84 WATCHING
DEREK'S POV

I watched everything, until I lost my mind. I didn't even know what I was doing when I grabbed her arm, and took her to class with me.

It was hard not to react. Her eyes were literally changing colors in front of me. She was losing her mind, and her control over things.

The stupid creature in her was acting up.

Fuck, I didn't even know what I was doing in school. I didn't expect to be there. I didn't want to be there.

“Fuck, this is ridiculous,” I said, just before we got into the class.

Iris was practically clinging to me. It was almost like she couldn't live without me at that point. A part of me liked it. My wolf wanted to have her as his, right there and then. But I could tell that she wasn't even going to like it. She wasn't feeling okay. I wasn't going to take advantage of that.

“I can't control it,” she whispered. I could hear her voice shaking. I didn't want this for her.

“You can,” I said in an assuring tone. My voice was low. Owen was right behind the both of us. I couldn't have him hearing the things that we were saying.

A part of me was more than glad that I shared some kind of secret with her. That I saw a side to her that only a few people had seen.

It didn't matter that I was getting more involved in this whole thing than I wanted to be. I loved it with every fiber of my being.

As I saw her off to her seat, I placed a small kiss on her forehead. I placed her bag on my own seat right next to her.

“I'll be right back,” I whispered. “Please, don't lose it.”

She gave me a small nod, and I quickly got up, heading outside. I looked over at Owen, but he was already sitting on another chair. I could tell that he wasn't going to try to touch her, or talk to her.

Not after I almost punched the life out of him.

She should have let me. It would have been nice seeing the blood drip out of his nose.

As soon as I headed out of the class, I could see somebody lean against my locker. Just the person I wanted to see.

“Took you long enough,” I said, and Garrett smirked.

“I was just a little late to school. I can't say I'm not shocked to even see you here.”

“I would rather be anywhere else,” I said calmly. “You saw what happened, didn't you?”

He looked over at me, giving me the small nod of his head.

“But you were close. Status?”

I could barely hold back my smirk. “She’s keeping it together.” then I paused. “Barely.”

I looked back into the classroom, and I noticed that Owen was constantly turning back. He was trying to make eye contact with Iris, but she had her head bent.

There was concern written all over Owen. I liked to see him worry.

But none of it was fair. The fact that he didn't know exactly what was wrong with her, was just wrong.

Garrett and I knew what was wrong, and the both of us knew just how to handle her. That made it right.

But then, I got to hear that his uncle was some kind of hunter that had been dedicated to catching werewolves for years now. I wasn't taking the risk of putting an end to Garrett, Iris and I. Something told me that he wasn't going to hesitate.

And there's nothing that Owen would do at that point that would save the three of us.

“This shit is going to get messy,” I said, and Garrett didn't even reply. He knew that I was saying the truth.

How long would we be able to hide the truth? It was going to be so fucking hard.

“One of us has to train her on how to handle her wolf,” I said, and Garrett finally nodded, agreeing with me for once.

He gestured towards me. “Well, yours is the better one when it comes to that. You can teach her.”

I could barely stop myself from smirking. “Oh,” I said. “You finally agree.”

He shrugged immediately. “I don't really have much of a choice, do I? It's all for her own good, so I have to agree.”

When do you suggest we start?” I asked, and he ran his hands through his hair.
My knees buckled, and it took a lot for me not to lose my step.

I was so fucking exhausted. After spending hours upon hours, looking after Iris, and making sure that she didn't lose her mind in that little chamber, I wasn't sure that I even knew how I was supposed to be thinking.

Her mother was going to be reunited with her father, and I was sure as hell that I wanted to be there.

Her mother was being nothing but ungrateful after Iris saved her. But that didn't change the fact that she was still Iris' mother.

So I was willing to let that slide.

“Maybe it'll be good to start within the week. We can never tell what would drive her back to the pack again. And I didn't want her to go unprepared again. She was more than drained.”

“Tell me about it. And she kept wanting something that felt normal. If it wasn't for her, I sure as hell won't be here in this school, or even around the vicinity.”

Garrett nodded, running a hand against my shoulder. “Good thing you care about her.”

I looked over at him smirking as the girls that walked past us in the hallway, smiled and waved. It took a lot for me not to roll my eyes.

“We both care about her. That's more than enough.”

Garrett smirked. “If you ask me, we should be worried about if we would both be enough for her.”

As the words left his mouth, I realized that even I didn't know the answer to his statement.
