Chapter 83 CONTROL
Chapter 83 CONTROL
IRIS' POV
The moment the student touched me, I felt my whole self freeze. There was something about the whole thing that made me want to react.
But I knew that it wasn't me. It was all the creature. He was more than willing to slam her into the wall.
“We should…” it started, and it took a lot for me not to bring a hand to my head.
“You don't have to do anything,” I said through some kind of mind link, and just for a second, it felt like it was going to listen to me. It went silent. But that didn't stop the fact that I could feel the energy humming underneath my skin again.
The student had already walked past me, but I could feel the energy shift.
No, no, no.
“You can't,” I started, but it didn't even look like the creature was willing to listen to me.
The student suddenly stumbled backwards, like she had hit a wall. Her eyes were wide as she looked over at me. But I didn't even move.
Owen's eyes slowly widened. If he didn't suspect that something was wrong, he was definitely going to suspect at that point.
I was scared to even look at the student at that point. What if my eyes were showing some kind of different color?
Even Derek blinked hard. “Sorry,” he and Owen said at the same time, but I couldn't even bring myself to speak.
“I'm fine,” I finally managed to say, after different tries. I said the whole thing a little too fast.
Owen had his eyes narrowed. He noticed.
Of course he did.
“You didn't even react,” he said, and my lips were pressed into a thin line.
“I did,” I said. My voice already shaking. Of course it was.
“No,” he argued. “You didn't.”
My pulse quickened, and I could feel it straining against my skin. The creature hummed underneath my skin.
“Threat detected,” it was saying.
My eyes widened slightly. No, no. He's not a threat. Nothing about him was a threat.
“No,” I whispered under my breath, and Owen took a step towards me. The creature reacted again, more than ready to do something violent.
It took a lot for me not to scream at Owen to stay away.
“What?” He asked.
“Nothing,” I muttered.
Derek looked like a part of him was enjoying everything that was happening at that point. That was one of the many moments where I wished the Garrett was around.
I could feel everything once again. Every laugh. Every voice. Every footstep.
It was hard to keep my eyes at a place. The creature was making my head snap in different directions, trying to keep in touch with all the sounds.
That was when Derek finally found it right to step in.
He had a hand around my own arm, as he made me look at him.
“I think she's done with having conversations for the day,” he said, and Owen looked like he was about to argue, when Derek started dragging me away. I couldn't even bring myself to look at Owen at that point.
I just wanted to get the hell away from him, and I was starting to feel bad about the whole thing.
But he wouldn't understand. There was no way I was going to start explaining countless things to him.
I exhaled, and it was getting hard to even breathe.
Beside I knew what was happening, I felt a hand around mine. The person made me turn around, and I saw Owen again.
He was looking genuinely angry now.
“Did I do something?” He asked, and I opened my mouth to speak. Once again, my throat was more than willing to disappoint me.
“What's your problem with her?” Derek quickly asked, and I could tell that he was more than willing to fight.
“The fact that she suddenly came back to school, acting all nice and sweet with you when I knew just how much she despised you in the beginning.”
I could see the hurt in Derek's face, but he quickly masked it again. I could see that he was about to laugh.
He took a step towards Owen.
“People change. Are you jealous that she's still my fiancee? Are you mad about the fact that you might never have a chance with her?”
Owen ran a hand through his face. “I'm worried about what she wants. I'm not just going to stand here and allow you decide what she gets to do.”
Owen smirked at him. “Sadly enough, she would agree with what I decide. That's why we are a couple.”
My head was already starting to hurt. The last thing I wanted between the both of them was some kind of cheap argument.
Nothing was going the way it was supposed to, at that point.
I stepped between the both of them, and I noticed that Owen had his hands balled into a fist as he looked at me. He was more than willing to allow his fist connect with Derek's jaw.
“That's enough!” I snapped. “Both of you.”
I was starting to fell like their mother, but I knew it was nothing of that sort. In fact, I didn't even know what was happening between the three of us.
A part of me liked it, and a part of me didn't even want to hear about it.
Lara stirred, and I could tell that she liked it. She was reeling. Enjoying all of this.
“You're just going to let him drag you away?” Owen asked, with hurt written all over him. He scoffed. “I should have known. Have it your way then.”
With that, he slung his bag over his shoulder, and he walked away.
I looked up at Derek, who seemed to have a small smile on his face. “Are you happy now?” I asked, and he shrugged, putting a hand around my shoulder, pulling me with him.
“If you ask me, if was for the best.”
