Chapter 70 THE BOND

Chapter 70 THE BOND
IRIS' POV

“Fuck no,” Derek said, grabbing yet another chain. Before I could even stop him, he had already thrown it. My mouth was wide open as I waited for the creature to dodge whatever was coming his way.

It just looked over at me, before giving me a wide smile. The chain hit it on the chest, and it passed through immediately like it was smoke.

“What the fuck?” One of them asked, and I couldn't even tell whose voice it was. It didn't matter. What actually mattered was what was going on in front of me. But I didn't even have the time to take all of that in, because something hit my chest.

Hard.

Chain-like.

I gasped, before I felt myself being thrown back. My back hit the wall like it belonged there, and pain sliced through my chest like something snapped inside of it. As my body lowered to the floor, I fell to my knees.

“Iris!” Derek screamed, and I could see the pain written all over him immediately. I didn't even have it on me to tell him that he wasn't at fault at that moment. Because if we were seeing things as they were, he was fully at fault.

As he hurried over to me, Marcus screamed at him not to touch me. He quickly took a step back, and I felt more hurt than I was supposed to.

He couldn't even fucking touch me?

I looked up, right at the creature. It's form was destabilizing. Flickering like dangerous lights.

I noticed the connection that was between the both of us. The purple lighting that was in its shadow form was getting brighter with each breath that I took.

The creature suddenly looked over at me, and I could feel it steady.

Through me.

“It’s tied to you,” he said, and I still clutched to my chest, as I tried to catch my breath.

“I didn't mean… I didn't mean to,” I said, and the creature moved closer. I could barely see any legs.

The presence was not threatening. It was nothing less than possessive.

There was a smirk on its face as it looked down at me, like it was daring me to do anything.

I could barely even move. Not when my breathing was still uneven.

It looked down at me, before leaning down to my level, and tipping my chin. “We live,” it said, and I blinked.

Its touch was no longer hot. Everything about it was hot. Burning hot just the way hands acted with the irons.

The words echoed in my head, and I couldn't hear past that. It was almost like the words were running through my veins.

Derek sniffled. He wasn't going to cry, was he?

“That doesn't sound like a temporary thing,” Derek said, and I couldn't agree more. It didn't matter that I couldn't speak just yet.

My mom crawled towards me, and her eyes were red as her nails scrubbed against the concrete floors.

“Find a way to stop it,” she practically begged. “You have to stop it somehow.”

Anger, confusion and power were running through my veins at the same time, and I didn't even know which one I was supposed to pay attention to first.

I looked up at the creature, and I didn't even know what to make of it. The purple energy was still thrumming. I didn't even know how I was supposed to get rid of it somehow.

It was pulsing at the same time as my necklace, and at the same time as Ragner right above us.

If Ragner could find its way down here, I knew that it would have. But it's didn't. Not yet.

Derek didn't like any of this one bit. I could see all the anger on his face. How hard he tried to keep himself together. It was only going to be a while until he totally lost his mind.

His jaw tightened one more time, and I could see that he was trying so hard not to lean down and touch me.

He looked over at Marcus. “Would it make sense if we killed him?” He asked, and Marcus looked at him in disgust.

“Kill him with what?” He asked. Derek ran a hand through his hair.

“I don't know. A sword? Silver? Anything.”

“Are you having a short term memory? Or are you naturally stupid. You kill it, and you kill Iris at the same time. If you're willing to get her out of your life, then you can go ahead and do just that.”

I felt my own breath catch.

In my head, I tried everything I could not to blame my father for putting me in this condition. Maybe. Just maybe if he hadn't sold me off to the Nashes, then I would have been fine at home. It didn't matter if he wasn't able to pay my fees. I would have stayed back at home.

As long as I didn't have to face creatures after creatures who addressed me as their queen, when I hadn't even gotten to learn how to shift to my wolf yet.

My hands flew to my head as I tried to stop the screaming in my head. The flashes of images. Tears pricked the back of my eyes, and I could barely stop them from flowing this time.

The creature watched me, extending a hand like it wanted to catch the tear that was about to fall.

I hated that it was the only one allowed to touch me at this point.

I looked over at Marcus, with my hand back to my chest. The dull ache was still there.

“Isn't there anything we can do?” I asked, and he pressed his lips into a thin line. I could see the gears in his head working.

By the time he looked up at me again, his eyes were void, and I couldn't push away the thought that things were going to go wrong.

He gave me a small shake of his head, and I felt my upper body about to give up.

“I'm sorry, Iris,” he said calmly. “There's nothing I can do about it this time.”
