Chapter 69 RECOGNITION
Chapter 69 RECOGNITION
IRIS' POV
I took a step forward, and I didn't even know what the hell I was doing. It was almost like Lara was the one pushing me forward. I had asked her for help. It was only sensible that she did that.
“Iris,” Derek called again, but I didn't have the energy to answer him.
I just wanted to keep going.
The creature was fully out now, and it had its eyes on me. I wasn't afraid for some reason. It was the same type of feeling I had when I was around Ragner.
I swallowed hard either way.
“Iris,”
“Let her handle it,” Marcus said, scolding Derek.
Derek finally went silent, and the creature cocked its head to the side.
It brought a hand forward, running it against my skin. There was a low growl at the back of its throat. The lips spread into something that looked like a smile.
But that wasn't enough to distract me from the ice chilly feeling its fingers came with.
I didn't feel any pain. I had something like memory instead. It wasn't Lara's.
There were flashes of images of a throne underneath a blood red sky.
“I know you,” I whispered before I could even stop the words from leaving my mouth.
Derek quickly grabbed my arm. “No, you don't,” he said, but I wasn't even answering him. It was too late to do any of that.
The creature cocked its head further to the side, like it was trying to understand what I was saying.
There was something about the creature. It was more or less of an echo of my past life.
“No,” my mother suddenly gasped. “You weren't supposed to come through like this.
The creature smiled wider, looking over at her now. “We were never meant to be forgotten.”
Derek suddenly let go of my arm, and he took a step towards it, with his eyes narrowed.
“You're not fully here,” he said, and the creature's presence flickered for just a second.
He was right.
Something told me that it was anchored by the broken gate. And me.
“If it stabilizes now, there would be no stopping it,” Marcus said, taking a step back. With the way he was acting, I wasn't going to be shocked if he just ran away.
Derek turned sharply. “Then we stop this now.”
“No,” I said quickly, and the three of them in the room screamed my name.
That didn't stop me from taking a step forward.
I could feel the truth at the back of my mind. As I reached out towards the creature, there was a surge of energy. Positive energy.
“This isn't the enemy,” I said calmly, turning back to look at them.
Derek swallowed hard. “What?” I asked.
The creature smiled. “We're what comes after you, Iris.”
Derek didn't hesitate. He quickly took a step towards me, grabbing my wrist again.
“We're done talking. We need to leave. I'm not allowing you stay a second more in this chamber.”
Before I could even protest, the creature cocked its head in Derek's position.
“You're going to try to stop what she's becoming?” It asked, and Derek swallowed hard, taking a step back, and pulling me along with him.
“I'll destroy anything that dares to threaten her,” he said.
Before I even knew what was happening, the hum underneath my hands started again, and I could barely hold back the feeling of energy surging through my veins again.
I looked up at the creature, and it was solidifying inch by inch, with its smile growing by the second.
Derek didn't hesitate, as he grabbed one of the chains, quickly throwing it at the creature.
I didn't know what it was trying to do, but my mouth was side open as I tried to stop it in any way that I could.
“Don't!” I practically screamed, but he wasn't even listening to me.
The creature's smile widened, and it was starting to look more like a smirk from where I was standing. My heart was thudding in my chest, as the feeling of energy got stronger.
“Something is wrong with me,” I whispered, just in time as the chain was supposed to hit the creature. It moved to the side, and the chain hit the wall..
The next thing I heard was a crashing sound. It sounded louder than it was supposed to sound, hitting the wall.
I brought my hands to me ears, but even my own eyes were starting to burn my skin.
I quickly took it away, keeping my hands at my side. I was hissing in pain, but all eyes were on the creature. Waiting to see the next step it would take. I was in the same position.
It was getting harder to breathe by the second.
Derek leaned down, taking another chain in his hands, and I quickly walked up to him, taking the chains away from his hands.
“You can't just keep throwing things around.”
I was still speaking, when I noticed that the cuffs of the chains were on the floor. Before I even knew what was happening, the chains had burned in my hands.
“What the fuck?” Derek asked, looking down at the molten iron that was dripping from my hands.
I took a step back, looking over at the creature.
“You're the one doing this, aren't you?” I asked, and it simply shook its head.
“The power is all yours, Queen,” it said, and I swallowed hard.
After Ragner, it was the next person that was calling me Queen.
Ragner roared from right above us again, and my stomach was in knots. It was almost like it was warning me.
That was when I noticed my necklace pulsing again. I blinked twice, before looking up and noticing that the creature was pulsing in the same way. It smiled, feigning innocence with its eyes.
It was anchoring itself to me.
And now, I was attached to two different creatures.
Creatures that I didn't even know anything about.
