Chapter 67 Chapter 67
"The wedding day was getting closer and closer, and I could barely believe how fast everything had happened. It felt like the second I said ‘yes,’ time just decided to sprint, running over the days as if it were late for some appointment.
The venue was already booked — a huge space with crystal chandeliers hanging like frozen drops of light. Isa insisted on showing me videos and photos from every possible angle. Not satisfied, she dragged me there in person. And, of course, she got emotional over absolutely everything. The decoration was already scheduled too: white flowers, soft greenery, an elegant aisle. Nothing I had asked for. Everything she thought I deserved.
But the real chaos started during the dress fitting.
The moment I put on the dress for the first time, my hands started sweating. The fabric slid over my skin like water, light and cold, raising goosebumps along my arms. The seamstress placed her hands on my shoulders to adjust the lace, and I stood there, still, breathing deeply, trying not to panic as the realization hit me that… it was real.
I was about to get married.
When I turned toward the mirror, my stomach twisted. My throat tightened. My legs went soft, like they were made of jelly. I didn’t know whether to laugh, cry, or bolt out the door.
That was when Isa, standing beside me, began to sob.
Literally sob.
"Oh… my… GOD!" She lifted both hands to her mouth, her eyes instantly filling with tears. "You look… you look… OH MY GOD, you look too beautiful! I can’t handle this!"
The seamstress even flinched at the noise. I turned toward Isa, laughing helplessly, because the expression on her face was so emotional she looked like she’d just witnessed a miracle.
"Isa… breathe…" I said, but she was already sniffling loudly, fanning her face like she had just watched the end of a sad movie.
"How is this even possible?" she sobbed, walking toward me and grabbing my hand with a dramatic amount of force. "You were that messed-up, stressed-out, lost girl… and now look at you! You’re a princess! A perfect bride! You look like you walked straight out of a Disney movie, for God’s sake!"
I laughed, but my cheeks warmed. I felt my chest tighten in a good, terrifying way.
I turned back to the mirror — and there I was.
Really there.
The dress hugged my waist, falling into a soft, flowing skirt, and every movement made the fabric dance around my legs. My skin was covered in goosebumps, my chin trembled slightly, and my fingers twined together in nervous instinct. With every breath, I felt the weight of the change coming — inevitable and close.
Isa wrapped her arms around my shoulders from behind, squeezing tight. Her face was puffy from crying so much.
"I don’t look anything like a mafioso’s sister right now, do I?" she sniffled, laughing.
"Not at all," I replied, touching her hand. "You look… like a real sister."
She squeezed even tighter, emotional.
I blinked slowly, breathing deeply, trying to steady the storm inside me. My heart hammered against my ribs, and the feeling was like standing on the edge of a cliff — not because I was being pushed, but because I had chosen to jump.
"A month went by too fast…" I murmured, feeling my hands tremble slightly. "How… how is it already happening?"
Isa smiled with that knowing sparkle only she had.
"When you love someone… time always runs, Chloe."
I inhaled deeply again, trying to record that moment, that feeling, that absurd mix of fear, happiness, and nerves.
I was about to change my life forever.
And for the first time, that didn’t terrify me completely.
Just… a little."
