Chapter 198 The MoonWolf revealed
Chapter 198
DARIUS
I turned to my father, but he was staring at Ravenna with genuine shock written all over his face.
"My father wouldn't do that," I said immediately, though doubt was already creeping into my chest.
Ravenna's eyes snapped to me. "You wouldn't believe me?"
Before I could answer, she yelled, her voice breaking slightly, "Selina attacked me in the toilet! And look at the timing, Darius. Richard calls you for a meeting all of a sudden, and I go to the toilet to ease myself, and suddenly Selina appears?"
I tried to speak, but she held up her hand, cutting me off.
"Before that," she continued, her voice shaking now, "they already tried to poison me through a drink. But I scented belladonna. And when I dropped it on the table and turned around, the waiter was watching me with a cold look."
My stomach twisted.
She started pacing the small space in front of me, her hands trembling. "The reason I've been behaving strangely is because I've been having visions of myself being killed. It's been affecting me. So I distanced myself from everyone." She paused, her eyes darting around.
"And just as I predicted I was attacked and nearly got killed in your pack, in your home where your father is hosting the moon festival."
She clapped slowly. "Perfect timing, Darius."
My mother stepped forward, her voice gentle but firm. "Ravenna, I know Richard is a cold man. But he would never try to kill you knowing fully well that his heir's life depends on yours."
She let out a bitter laugh. "Listen to yourself, Martina. Are you saying you don't think your husband is capable of murder?"
My mother's face went pale.
Ravenna suddenly bent down and started searching the floor frantically.
My mother looked at me, concerned. "Is she mad? Did they do something to her?"
Ravenna looked up, and my mother stepped back instinctively at the fury in her eyes.
Ravenna crawled closer to where she had shifted earlier, bent down, and picked up something small and glinting.
A necklace.
She walked over and handed it to me, her hand steady despite the blood still dripping from her wounds.
"I found this on Selina's neck," she said quietly. "And I noticed your mother was wearing the same necklace earlier."
She turned to look at my mother, "Ohh, she still has it on her." I looked down at it.
It's a couple's necklace. This type was specially made by the couples. No other person could have exactly this type.
I turned it over.
The letter M was engraved on one side. This was my mother's first letter.
I walked towards my mom and turned over the necklace on her neck. The letter R was boldly written on the other side.
My father's first letter.
My blood ran cold.
I looked up at Ravenna, then at my father.
"Why was Selina wearing your couple necklace?" Ravenna asked, her voice dangerously calm now.
My father's jaw tightened. "I don't know what you're implying. I lost that necklace some weeks back."
Ravenna grinned, but there was no humour in it. "Out of all the people in the world to find it, it was Selina? Selina, who supposedly returned to her pack? She just happened to be around when you lost it and was fortunate enough to pick it up? And then wore it on her neck as a trophy?"
My father said nothing.
Ravenna turned to me, her expression hard. "Secondly, Selina said she couldn't believe Darius would mate with me. That means there were people who thought that after what I did, he wouldn't mate with me. And who could that person be? You, Richard?"
She paused, her eyes boring into mine. "Remember, your father was furious when he found out you marked me. He couldn't believe his son would do that."
I swallowed hard, my chest tightening. It's true. Richard had really been furious and the elders too.
"And thirdly," Ravenna continued, her voice rising now, "the men who attacked me in the hallway were your father's men. I saw them around him during the moon festival held at the school. I immediately recognized their faces. But what's more convincing is why they smell like rogues?"
My father's expression flickered for just a second.
Guilt.
"And lastly," Ravenna said, her voice breaking now, "whilst I was held down and Caleb was forcing me to shift, Selina appeared and tried to attack me. I bit her leg off. Caleb got angry and tried to kill me. But Selina yelled that they still needed me alive."
She paused, her eyes locking onto my father's. "That means this was an internal attack. Not external. And I've been wondering—why was I needed alive? Why were Selina and Caleb part of the attack? And why, at the exact moment I needed your help, were you suddenly drugged and knocked out?"
The necklace fell from my hand and clattered onto the floor. All the proof was directly pointing at my father.
I turned to my father, my voice hoarse. "Did you really want to kill her?"
"I don't know what you're talking about," he said firmly. "Everything she said is false."
"Then why did your men attack her?" I demanded, stepping closer.
"I don't know what she's saying," he replied, his voice rising now. "My men are on holiday. I didn't order them to kill her or order a waiter to poison her. I was surprised to see her here."
I stared at him, trying to see past the mask he always wore.
But I couldn't.
My father was terrible, had always been terrible and will forever be.
Ravenna spoke quietly. "The only way to find out is to get Selina and Caleb to talk."
I turned to her. "Where are they?"
"In the woods," she replied. "I don't know if they're dead or alive."
My stomach dropped. "Did you kill them?"
She shook her head. "I don't know. Whilst Caleb was choking the life out of me, something just happened. And they all fell."
I frowned as I remembered something. "The earthquake that happened—was that caused by you?"
She shrugged, her expression unreadable. "I don't know. Maybe. It was my wolf."
"Your wolf caused that?"
My father asked as he stepped forward, his face suddenly pale.
"What have you brought upon us?" His voice was shaking now, fear creeping into his tone. "Something like that was never supposed to happen. It was never supposed to be caused by a mere wolf. Werewolves don't have power."
He paused, his eyes widening as realization dawned.
"But that kind of power," he continued, his voice barely above a whisper. "I felt it ripple through the air. The whole house shook. The building even broke."
He shook his head slowly, his expression shifting from fear to horror.
"And the only wolf who could do that..."
He stopped, staring at Ravenna like he was seeing her for the first time.
"No," he whispered. "It can't be possible."
His eyes went wide, and he stepped back, his hands trembling.
"Only a bearer of the MoonWolf and the MoonWolf itself could perform that.”
