Cured
Arabelle's mom, Melissa, seems to be having a long dream. In her dream, she's walking on a long but narrow road that doesn't seem to have an end. She realized that it's only a dream since she doesn't feel tired. Even if she has been walking for hours or days now, she doesn't feel anything. It's also weird that the background around her doesn't change no matter how far she goes. Suddenly, she thinks that she saw a man standing from far away.
She knows that silhouette even if she hasn't seen him for such a long time. It's her husband, Adam, who died a few years ago. Tears suddenly welled up in her eyes since she was not expecting to see him. This is the first time she's seeing him in her dream after the incident. She can still recall how numb she felt when she found out that her husband died. Back then, she wished to see him even in her dream but he never appeared even for the last time.
“Adam, is that you honey?” She called for him as she continued to walk faster to reach him.
Adam didn't respond but he smiles at her the closer she gets to where he is standing. He still looks the same as before he left them. As if he was frozen in age when he died. She's hoping that he will not disappear before she can come closer. Although he looks like he's just waiting for her to be near. She got a lot of questions to ask him but never had a chance to do so. Maybe it's her chance to do that now. Then she can finally be at peace.
“Hello, Melissa! I've been waiting for you.” Adam told her and welcomed her in his arms.
“Adam, It's really you!” She said and threw herself into her husband's arms.
Melissa can't stop her tears from falling on her heels anymore. She's crying not because she's lonely but the other way around. It's hard to contain her happiness that's why she ends up in tears. His embrace still feels the same even after a long time. She doesn't want to let him go anymore if that's possible. It's been too hard to be alone and raise their kids by herself. Now that they are together once again, she wants it to last forever this time around.
“Did you come to take me away?” she finally asked.
“As much as I want to, I can't do that. It's not your time yet and the girls still need you.” he responded.
“The curse was transferred on me when you passed. I don't want to suffer anymore.” she told him while in tears.
“Don't worry, the curse has been broken. All you need to do is wake up.” he replied and kissed her lips.
Before she could say anything back, he suddenly disappeared. Even her surroundings started to fade as she tried looking for Adam. She tried to shout his name but no voice came out. All she can do is cry her heart out for losing her husband for the second time. That's when she feels like she's about to wake up. As much as she wanted to stay asleep, her children's images flashed before her eyes. That's when she decided to wake up.
“Mom…mom…are you awake now?” Amie's voice sounded like a sweet melody for her mother.
“Amie, dear. I'm awake now, don't worry too much.” she responded with her eyes still closed.
Amie hugged her tightly as if she had been sleeping for a long time. She can't help but laugh at her daughter's over reaction. Why is she acting like that? Although when she tried to remember what she did before sleeping, nothing came up. She decided to open her eyes already so that her youngest daughter can relax. That's when she sees the unfamiliar room she's in. Everything looks so white as if she's in the hospital. She suddenly feels confused.
“Why are we in the hospital?” she asked.
“You've been sleeping for two days so we brought you here. The doctor said you were in a coma.” Amie replied.
“How long have I been out?” she asked again.
“You have been unconscious for nine days.” Amie said.
She can't believe that she has been asleep for more than a week. That's why her dream feels longer than she normally dreams. Now that she's awake, she feels better as if the curse has been broken. She remembers what Adam told her in her dream. He said that the curse has been broken already. It means that she no longer has to endure carrying that curse anymore. Thankfully, Arabelle must have found a way to break that curse finally!
“Where's your sister?” she asked Amie now that she realized that Arabelle is nowhere to be seen.
“She's stuck in the hallway. I don't know how to explain it.” Amie said and looked confused.
Justin left earlier before her mom wakes up. He said he will find a way to bring back her sister and Ralph. Amie can't imagine how he will be able to do that. They can't see them even if they have checked the hallway. Justin has a theory why they can't see them. According to him, they might have walked into another dimension. He told her about their experiences from the enchanted forest before. Although she wanted to believe it, it's just absurd.
“If you think you're lost, the solution is to wear your clothes the wrong way.” her mom suddenly blurted out.
“Isn't that for elementals?” Amie asked, wondering.
“It’s worth a try if you can't find your way back.” her mom replied and she nodded in agreement.
“Justin is already looking for them. By the way mom, are you hungry?” Amie asked in a concerned tone.
She nodded since she suddenly feels hungry now that her daughter mentioned it. Although she's on a diet, she needs solid food now that she's awake. Amie decided to bring her mom some soup. Justin bought that earlier in case she got hungry. It's good timing since her mom can just start with the soup. She brings it over to her mom immediately so that she can eat. It's been a long time since she fell into a coma. She might be starving by now.
“Mom, have some soup first.” Amie said and gave her the tray with the bowl of soup.
“Thanks, sweetie!” her mom told her and started eating.
Her mom is so hungry she was able to finish it in just a few minutes. Just in time when Amie brought her some chicken with mashed potatoes on the side. Now that she feels better, she was able to eat everything without feeling nauseous. Maybe the curse has been broken somehow since she doesn't feel it's weight on her anymore. She's grateful that she will still be able to stay with her kids. That's when the knock on the door breaks their silence.
