Chapter 42

“Are you sure you’re ready for this,” Dawson put his arm around my shoulders as we walked down to the party.

“Yah, I’m dying to know what Reese discovers.”

Dawson nodded and opened the door. The party is in full force. Rock music is blaring and it’s so packed in here we can barely move.

I let Dawson take my hand and lead me to the drinks as I scanned the room for Reese. I know he’s here somewhere. We planned it so he would have about an hour with Rowen before I got there.

With the lights dimmed and this big of a crowd, it’s hard to recognize anyone. Scents are blending, and I can’t tell whose scent is coming from whom.

I smiled as I spotted Ezra and Jacie dancing. I’m not sure if I agree with his plan to reject his mate for her, but it is nice to see him so happy.

Dawson handed me a beer and we made our way through the dance floor. Both of us continued to scan the crowd for Reese.

We found a spot against the back wall where we could see the full dance floor in the living room, the kitchen, and down the hall toward the bathroom.

I finally spotted Reese and Rowen in the corner of the living room playing beer pong. Reese noticed me and gave me a wink before he whispered something to Rowen.

Dawson put his arm around me and watched as Rowen glanced over his shoulder at us. As soon as his eyes met mine, his body stiffened. Just like it did in his room. He turned around to face me and I watched him lick his lips as his eyes roamed up and down my body.

My attention wasn’t on Rowen though. Reese’s face expression went stone-cold. I watched his body stiffen as he clenched his jaw and stared at Rowen. That look alone just confirmed my suspicions.

Rowen nodded and smiled at me, but when he started to walk over, Reese grabbed his arm. I don’t know what they’re saying to each other, but I can tell it’s a heated conversation. Rowen looks pissed.

Reese never let go of Rowen’s arm. He looked over at me and nodded to confirm that I was right. I watched as he pulled Rowen to the door, and they left together. I didn’t mean to make them leave early, but seeing Reese’s reaction, I wonder if I was in more danger then I thought.

I looked at Dawson, and he gave me the same concerned look. I’m not sure what Reese just picked up on, but it doesn’t look good.

Jacie spotted us and waved me over. Dawson stayed close to me but hung back a little as I took Ezra’s spot and started dancing with Jacie. I’m not really in the mood, but I want to look casual.

Somebody spelled Rowan. Until I know who, I don’t want to let on that I know something is wrong.

The party is going good, but I still can’t stop my thoughts from going back to Creed. I’m trying my hardest to believe in him and trust him. I just wish he would have told me goodbye. I can’t stand not knowing where he is, or what he’s up against.

Just the thought of him possibly using my own magic against me makes me sick. At this moment there is nothing I can do about it. The only choice I have is to wait and see what he does.

I continued dancing with Jacie with a fake smile on my face. Dawson and Ezra were perfect gentlemen and replaced our empty bottles with fresh beers as we kept dancing.

BAM, what the? The front door just flew open, and everyone started screaming and moving to the side of the room.

Dawson grabbed me around my waist and pulled me tight to his body.

Shit, blood lust!

Two vampires came storming through the door, eyes blazing red, fangs exposed, they’ve been starved. Blood lust is horrible. It makes them crazy and unpredictable. They can’t control their urge to feed.

How did any vampire here go into blood lust? They have plenty of blood in the blood bank for them.

Shit shit, Dawson tightened his grip on me. Their headed straight towards us with their fangs out, ready to. Shit, my hands reacted and welcomed my flames.

Dawson jumped back a little, not knowing that my fire couldn’t hurt my mates. I raised my fire higher, so there was a wall between me and the vampires.

Their hissing and trying everything to get around my fire. With every move they make, I move my hands. Blocking them from Dawson and me. Everyone else scattered against the wall. One of them has his eyes locked on me, the other one’s eyes are locked on Dawson.

I linked Ryker, “their quick. I don’t know how long I can hold them back. Someone needs to knock them out, but don’t kill them. They just need blood.”

“I’m already on it. I sent a guy to the blood bank. Me and Drake are trying to come in from opposite sides. Just keep them distracted.”

“I’m trying, but their quick.”

“Just hold on, Bella. Try to get them to turn just a little to the right, so I’m out of their sight.”

I slowly moved to my right. Hoping Dawson would loosen his grip a little and follow my lead.

I moved my hands toward them a little, letting them feel the heat. I don’t want to burn them. My fire is deadly. If it touches them, it might not go out until they are nothing more than a pile of ash.

What they are doing now is not them. They are in one of my classes. They are not bad people, they just need blood.

“Please don’t make me hurt you,” I yelled. It did nothing. They still won't back off.

“Ryker hurry,” I yelled through the link.

I barely got the words to him before I saw four shadows pounce on them from behind.

The force knocked the vampires to the ground, but they quickly recovered. One of them grabbed Ryker by the arm. Pulling him closer and opening his mouth.

I quickly released hurricane force winds in between them that forced the vamp to release Ryker.

Ryker stumbled back but quickly recovered. Dawson tried to join the fight, but both vamps turned on him. What the? Their focused on me and Dawson.

I light my fire again and jumped in front of Dawson. The boys and, surprisingly, Isaac ran in from the left, right and behind the vamps. Knocking both of them down in one shot.

The vamps let out a blood-curdling scream before the boys and Isaac all released their fists and knocked both vamps out cold.

I pulled my fire back and fell into Dawson’s chest.

“Are you OK?” I asked him as I tried to catch my breath.

“Yah I’m fine. What about you?”

“I’m good. I just need a minute.”

Ryker grabbed a hold of me and walked me over to the couch.

“She’s OK Dawson. Her magic just releases a lot of energy.”

He nodded and sat down next to me.

I took a minute to catch my breath and looked up to see the boys and Isaac looking at me with their faces full of concern.

“Actually, I don’t feel tired at all. Thank you guys for helping. That goes for you to Isaac. I didn’t expect that.” I smiled up at him.

He nodded, “Fear doesn’t look good on you. There are not too many people that can kick my ass. I’ve got to give you credit, you're tough. Knowing how tough you are, and seeing that fear in your eyes, didn’t sit well with me. They could have come after any of us, so thank you for the burning hands.”

I laughed and pressed my lips in a straight line while looking over at Ryker.

“I guess that gig is up.”

The entire room was silent. I looked around and saw nothing, but shocked expressions and jaws dropped as everyone stared at me.

“Yah Bella, I think the secret is out,” Ryker shook his head and ran his hand over his face.
