Chapter 3 (Luck)

Black.

That's all I see. Oddly that's one of my favorite colors, the irony of telling me I have a black crown on my head. People sure are innovative, aren't they?

I try to open my eyes but I'm blinded by the light.

Slowly I open my eyes to find myself in a room with closed curtains on all four sides except the back which is a wall

I hear footsteps on the other side of the room.

"Sir Gordon did you hear that the princess of Lenya was murdered last night!"

"The princess who is betrothed to Prince Reece?" What? But I'm alive!

"Yes! Apparently, she fell off a Clift but her body hasn't been found yet."

"Oh, dear! That is why prince Reece has been devastated!"

I hear their footsteps fading.

I try to remember what just happened. I examine my body which was covered in cuts and bruises but it almost felt numb. I remember the man that was trying to kill me. He had a strong built and... His knife... it had a royal crest on it. This means one of two things.

One he is royal which doesn't make sense since he was banished and two, someone sent him after me which means I am in danger! There are more of them after me and I can't trust anyone right now! I can't go home like this my whole kingdom could be in danger. I have to find answers. Since I've not been out of the palace for so long no one will recognize me which is good.

So I have to lay low and find answers and make sure they think I'm dead.

The curtains open to reveal an even brighter light.

"Ahh, I see you're awake. What's your name madam?"

"My name is li- I mean Sara, Sara Lilly" Almost told my real name!

"So Miss Sara Lilly, Let me see if you're in our records. Wait a moment"

Oh god, what do I do now! I did not think this through!

"Ahh, Miss Sara Lilly in born field am I correct?"

"Umm yeah sure" Yeah sure? What kind of answer is that Lillian?

"Great it says here that you're part of the cleaning staff in the palace. You have been injured quite a bit so rest and a guard will take you home"

"Yes thank you" wait a minute. Cleaning staff? IM A MAID!

Ha-ha... What the hell am I going to do now! And what if this Sara Lilly is at her house? Oh no I did not think this through.

Two guards appear in front of me and guide me through the forest. We didn't walk too far until we arrived at an old shed in the middle of nowhere. Literally! Which is kind of good...? I guess

"Well, madam I guess this is your stop." One of the guards said.

"Apparently it is..." my voice as low as a whisper

"What is that madam?"

"I meant yes... yes it is!" I say a little too excited

"Great madam we will be off then" reality hit in by the time they left, this small... hut is my home?

"REALLY! I AM A SOON-TO BE QUEEN! HOW THE HELL AM I SUPPOSED TO LIVE IN THIS SHIT HOLE!" I screamed and really didn't care if anyone heard me besides they would just think I'm crazy which isn't fully wrong.

"I mean what the hell were you thinking Lillian! Ahh, let's do identity theft and hope she is not here and keeps up this act until I find clues! I mean you can't even find all your shoes in your closet but you're going to investigate and find out who's trying to kill you! Plus you can't trust anyone so you're stuck... all by ... yourself..." and for the first time in forever, I cried. No, I sobbed sitting on the grass in front of my new... home.

After what seemed like forever I finally enter the hut and find the hut abandoned. No clothes no nothing at least I have one less problem to worry about.

I have no cash, no card, and whatever I had it's on top of that Clift so I have no choice but to work as a maid.

The hut did have a bed if you can even call it that. It was like a piece of cardboard. I mean maids get paid generously either she is in a heap of debt or she ran away rich.

Laying on the bed and staring at the brown hay on top I finally drift off into a deep sleep.

The morning was okay. I had to make my way to the palace and surprisingly they let me in because the guards who accompanied me last night were the guards standing outside the castle.

"Umm, sir..."

"Yes madam?" the 1st guard asked with a smile

"Where can I find... the lady from last night?" why didn't I just ask her name?

"You mean miss nova, she will be in the first floor left hall mostly."

"Thank you so much sir" I smile and leave them to do their job

As I walk down the hallway I bump into something solid and realize it's a person. Stepping back a little. I see prince Reece.
