Chapter 395

Chapter 395

Raymond hesitated for a moment, then smirked. "If she actually does that, it just shows how dumb she is."

Right as he finished, Raymond's phone buzzed. Emily glanced at the screen and chuckled. "What a coincidence."

Raymond barely lifted an eyelid before swiping the screen and putting the call on speaker.

"Hey, Mr. Carter, why aren't you at work yet?" Brynn's slightly flirty voice came through the phone.

Raymond looked at Emily, who gave him a knowing smile. He then said, "Whether I come to work today isn't your concern. Even Juan doesn't ask me that."

There was a moment of silence on the other end, and Brynn seemed to be caught off guard.

A few seconds later, she hurriedly said, "I was just worried about you and Mrs. Carter. How is she this morning? Do you need me to come over and help?"

Emily picked up a piece of meat and savored it. She loved this dish, but why did it taste so much better at this Mexican restaurant than when she bought it at the mall? Was it a psychological thing?

"No need. Our personal matters don't require your concern. Just focus on doing your job well. Anything else is none of your business," Raymond said firmly.

Brynn's eyes reddened, and she said softly, "Mr. Carter, have you misunderstood me again? I really didn't mean anything by it. I just sincerely wanted to check on Mrs. Carter."

"You're not qualified. I've already told you, just do your job. There are many employees and interns in the company. Should everyone overstep their boundaries like you?" Raymond's tone carried a hint of sarcasm.

Brynn's face changed slightly, and she didn't know what to say.

After eating two pieces of meat, Emily's mischievous side emerged. She said in a sweet voice, "Honey, who are you talking to?"

Raymond looked at her with a playful smile, and Emily responded with a teasing gaze.

Brynn gripped her phone tightly, her face full of shock. She stammered, "Mr. Raymond Carter... are you and Mrs. Emily Carter having dinner?"

"Yes, Emily and I are having dinner. Don't call me again. For work-related issues, talk to Juan. And don't concern yourself with my personal life. If you overstep your boundaries again, there will be consequences," Raymond said before hanging up decisively.

Brynn hadn't even had a chance to respond before the call ended. Her face turned red with embarrassment and anger, and she gripped her phone tightly, her expression twisted.

Just then, Juan walked over and called out, "Brynn."

Brynn quickly snapped out of her thoughts, adjusted her expression, and forced a smile. "Mr. Stewart."

Juan's expression was calm. "Mr. Carter just called me. As an intern, especially the lowest-ranking one, you should focus on doing your job well and steadily advancing your rank and experience, rather than concerning yourself with things unrelated to work."

Brynn hadn't expected Raymond to report this to Juan. Her pride was wounded, and she felt a deep sense of humiliation, awkwardly shuffling her feet on the ground.

She was extremely embarrassed and didn't dare to look up. She just nodded her head. "I understand, Mr. Stewart."

"This isn't the first time you've made this mistake. Last night, Mrs. Emily Carter was kind and gracious. If it had been someone else, they wouldn't have forgiven you. Remember that Mr. Raymond Carter's personal life is not your concern. Even I don't have the right to question it. People need to know their place," Juan said, his eyes deep and serious.

Brynn felt a lump in her throat, her expression both embarrassed and slightly angry.

She knew she had overstepped, and she knew she wasn't qualified to ask so many questions, but she couldn't help it. Whenever she thought about Raymond and Emily being affectionate, she couldn't stand it.

Before graduation, when she was accepted by the Carter Group, her dormmates threw her a celebratory dinner. Brynn shared her experiences with Raymond with her friends.

Everyone agreed that Raymond must have a thing for Brynn.

"Brynn, you have to seize this opportunity. It's a once-in-a-lifetime chance."

Brynn felt a bit embarrassed. "Did you forget? Mr. Carter is married."

A dormmate said, "Sure, he's married, but didn't you hear? They had a quick wedding. There's no real affection between them. Only they know the real reason."

Another dormmate added, "Exactly. And think about it, Mr. Carter treats you so well. He got you into the Carter Group, one of the most competitive companies. Doesn't that say something?"

Brynn was puzzled. "What does it say?"

Her dormmate scoffed. "Brynn, do you really think you got in on your own merit? That company is one of the top ten in the world. Even graduates from the best schools can't always get in. Do you think it's possible you got in on your own?"

Brynn, being naive, shook her head. "I don't know. I still can't figure it out."

Her dormmate said, "What's there to figure out? Mr. Carter likes you, so he made an exception to hire you. He wants you by his side so he can see you every day and pursue you."

When Brynn heard her friends' analysis, she was shocked. It took her a while to process it, but deep down, she felt it made sense. Why else would Raymond help her if she was so ordinary?

Isn't it always about love between men and women?

"So, you all think Mr. Carter likes me?" Brynn asked cautiously.

Her three dormmates nodded without hesitation. "Absolutely."

At that moment, Brynn was torn between her moral upbringing and her undeniable attraction to Raymond.
