Chapter 384
Chapter 384
Raymond raised an eyebrow, his phoenix eyes narrowing slightly as he glanced at her. "Are you jealous?"
Emily shivered at his words, her ears turning red in an instant. A few seconds later, she regained her composure.
"Isn't it normal to be jealous? After all, I am your wife," Emily admitted without hesitation.
Raymond's gaze held a hint of amusement as he looked at her. He chuckled, "Since you put it that way, as your husband, I should explain."
"Her name is Brynn. She's new, sort of an assistant. Juan is mainly responsible for her. My work is still handled by Juan, but he delegates some basic tasks to her."
Emily trusted Raymond's detailed explanation. Ever since she had known him, Raymond had always been straightforward and honest. Even with Abigail, he had been upfront.
Her doubts vanished instantly.
She smiled slightly. "Explaining so openly?"
Raymond replied, "Why wouldn't I be open about something like this?"
Emily continued, "I just never knew you would hire a female assistant. This is the first time I've seen one. She seems to have a special place with you."
Raymond couldn't help but laugh. "Have you been reading too many novels? Do you really think that's possible?"
Emily's lips curled up in a self-satisfied and teasing smile. "If it were any other man, maybe. But with you, I don't think so."
Raymond's gaze seemed to linger on her face before slowly moving down and stopping at her chest. He clicked his tongue in admiration. "We've been together for so long, and you still don't know what I like? Do you think I like women without a chest?"
Emily couldn't help but laugh at his words. She hadn't expected Raymond to be so amusing.
She chuckled, "If someone else heard you, they'd be heartbroken."
Raymond's lips curved into a playful smile. "I'm just being honest. I don't like her style either. It doesn't match her at all. If someone gives up their own style to imitate others or thinks it looks good, I find that kind of woman quite uninteresting."
Curious, Emily asked, "What about me? What do you think my style is?"
Raymond seriously considered it before replying, "Actually, you can pull off any style. It's quite strange."
Emily couldn't help but laugh. "What kind of answer is that? Are you brushing me off?"
Raymond answered earnestly, "I'm not brushing you off. Don't you think so too? You really do look good in anything. It's a fact."
To Emily, his words didn't sound like a lie. In fact, they made her feel quite pleased.
She smiled calmly. "I'll reluctantly believe you. So, dear husband, can you promise me one thing?"
"Let's hear it first."
"No, since you're my good husband, you have to promise me this."
Raymond's lips curved into a playful smile. "Go ahead."
Emily cleared her throat. "I don't want to stay in the hospital tonight. Take me home."
Raymond's smile was knowing as he replied, "You're straightforward, but no. You need to stay at least until tomorrow for a full check-up to make sure everything's okay."
Emily's lips drooped, her eyes reddening slightly. She couldn't say a word, feeling as if she carried the weight of the world's disappointment.
She pouted. "You're mean."
Raymond chuckled. "I'm mean for not letting you leave the hospital?"
Emily nodded, a long sigh escaping her throat. "Aren't you? You can't even fulfill this small request. How can you call yourself a good husband?"
The next second, Emily turned away, sulking and trying to endure the pain in her abdomen. She bit her lip, tears welling up in her eyes, feeling overwhelmed by disappointment and sadness.
Raymond reached out and tugged at her. "Are you pretending again?"
A few seconds later, a sobbing sound came, followed by Emily's muttering. "You say you love me, but you're so domineering about everything. You don't even consider my feelings... You call yourself my husband, but you don't act like one... You just bully me..."
Hearing her muttering, Raymond's lips curved into an amused smile. "And then?"
"You always bully me... What kind of husband is so domineering? You don't listen to your wife at all... You don't even consider her opinions..."
Her muttering sounded incredibly cute to Raymond. He smiled and moved to sit beside her. Emily, who had been pretending to cry, was caught off guard when Raymond suddenly sat next to her, exposing her act.
The air was filled with awkwardness.
Raymond's lips curled up. "I knew you were faking it."
Emily was momentarily speechless, only able to offer an awkward smile.
Fortunately, Raymond was quite indulgent. "How about this? Give me a kiss, and I'll agree."
Emily was speechless.
She could feel her cheeks burning, a blush spreading across her face.
"You're such a rogue."
Raymond's smile spread across his face. "Call me whatever you want. So, are you going to kiss me or not? If you don't, don't blame me."
Emily gripped the bedsheet tightly, biting her lip. She had no choice. To get out, she had to kiss him.
She quickly leaned in and pecked his cheek. Before she could pull away, Raymond leaned in, taking control.
Emily's eyes widened as she pushed against his chest. "You... You can't do this here. This is a hospital room!"
Raymond's eyes narrowed slightly. "I think trying it in a hospital room could be quite thrilling."
With that, Raymond kissed her again, his warm palm cradling the back of her head. Their bodies pressed tightly together, and Emily could smell the fresh scent of his cologne mixed with a faint hint of tobacco.
It was quite pleasant.
His cool lips captured her tender ones, tracing them delicately before delving deeper. Their tongues intertwined, and her mouth was filled with his taste.
