Chapter 385
Emily's hands pressed against his chest as she caught her breath. She tilted her head slightly, surrendering to Raymond's passionate kiss. His kiss was both commanding and tender, as if he wanted to meld her into his very being.
As the kiss deepened, Raymond seemed to forget his initial intentions. He held her tightly beneath him, careful not to put pressure on her injury. He shifted slightly, using his arm to support himself while continuing to kiss her.
Emily's abdomen had been hurting, but as Raymond kissed her, the pain seemed to vanish inexplicably.
Just then, the door to the hospital room burst open again, followed by a low, startled scream.
Instinctively, Emily pushed Raymond away. He quickly turned to see Brynn standing at the door, her face a mask of shock and confusion.
Raymond straightened up, his expression cold. "Why are you back again? And why do you keep barging in without knocking?"
Emily's heart raced. She blushed and adjusted her disheveled clothes. Oddly, despite Brynn witnessing everything, she didn't feel particularly embarrassed. In fact, she felt a sense of triumph.
Was Brynn really jealous?
Brynn lowered her head, her hands clenched tightly, her nails digging into her palms. She bit her lip, looking uneasy and ashamed of her actions.
"I'm sorry, Mr. Carter. I didn't mean to."
"Not knocking before entering wasn't intentional either? Don't you understand basic manners?" Raymond's face remained stern, showing no emotion.
Emily, having fixed her clothes, glanced at Brynn with a calm expression. "Why so harsh? Aren't you afraid of scaring people?"
Brynn's lips trembled, and she seemed on the verge of speaking but held back. Her eyes were filled with guilt and self-reproach.
"I'm really sorry. I didn't mean to."
Brynn's repeated apologies sounded insincere and irritating. Twice now, she had entered without knocking. Anyone would think it was deliberate.
Emily certainly thought it was intentional.
Brynn might think she's clever, but her intentions were transparent to Emily.
Raymond's eyes were dark and deep. He frowned. "Knocking before entering is basic courtesy. Doing this twice shows a lack of personal quality, Brynn."
Brynn looked shocked and fearful, her head bowed. "I'm really sorry. It's my fault."
"Stop apologizing. Apologies are meaningless after a mistake. If you knew it was wrong, you shouldn't have done it in the first place."
Brynn was on the verge of tears, her voice trembling. "I really know I was wrong. I'm sorry, Mr. Carter. Truly sorry."
Emily was growing tired of Brynn's endless apologies. Her initial impression of Brynn as simple and honest had now turned to one of stupidity.
Repeatedly barging in wasn't accidental; it was deliberate.
Emily didn't want to waste more words on Brynn. She tugged on Raymond's sleeve. "That's enough. It's not that serious."
Then she asked Brynn, "Didn't Raymond ask Juan to take you home? Why did you come back?"
Brynn bit her lip. "Mr. Stewart got an urgent call and told me to take a cab. Since it was the end of the workday, I thought I'd come back to see if Mr. Raymond Carter and Mrs. Emily Carter needed any help."
Raymond responded without hesitation, "We don't need help. Acting on your own without my instructions is overstepping. You don't have that authority."
For a young woman new to the workforce, Raymond's words were harsh. Brynn's eyes reddened, and she quickly looked up, clearing her throat and setting her jaw in a stubborn line.
"Mr. Raymond Carter, I just wanted to help you and Mrs. Emily Carter. As a woman, I thought I could take better care of Mrs. Emily Carter. I had no other intentions, just a genuine desire to help and make up for my mistake tonight."
Raymond's expression softened slightly at the mention of Emily.
Emily watched Brynn's expression closely, unsure if her intentions were genuine or not.
Raymond's face remained stern, but his tone softened. "This isn't overtime. Helping out won't earn you extra pay."
Brynn quickly clarified, "Mr. Carter, you misunderstand. I'm not doing this for overtime pay. I'm volunteering to help, with no other motives."
"Good. You can help, but make sure you don't gossip at work. Keep your mouth shut everywhere." Raymond's tone was composed.
Realizing Raymond had agreed, Brynn was overjoyed. "Thank you, Mr. Carter. Thank you for letting me stay."
Emily couldn't help but smirk. Was staying to help really something to be grateful for? How foolish.
Though foolish, Brynn wasn't entirely stupid. She was stubborn and determined, unlike some graduates who were too timid to act.
However, Brynn's approach was not advisable.
Fortunately, she was dealing with Emily and Raymond. With anyone else, the outcome could have been much worse.
After a moment of thought, Raymond spoke again. "My wife doesn't want to stay in the hospital. Go handle her discharge paperwork. I'll cover the costs later."
