Chapter 15

Kelvin's POV

I stared at my father. I wasn't sure I heard correctly. I heard him say again.

"Silas will be the Vice President" he said. I looked at my father and kept mute. I saw a glint in Silas eyes. I knew he was happy. Silas as vice president was just the starting point. I knew he will definitely keep aiming for the top. I finished my dinner in silence as usual and went back to my room. I turned on my laptop and continued my investigation. I remain ever grateful to my mum, who saw to it that I had detailed and comprehensive knowledge of computer from a young age. She had sent me to Europe specifically for that. I was able to hack through the covers dad and his friends placed on their shaddy deals. I was yet to complete my investigation. But at least, I knew one of the deals and all the people involved. What was left was to unravel the others. I suddenly missed mum. My mum was a very strong and determined woman. And of course, a lion begets a lion. I had learned courage and doggedness from her. I was going to stay strong till the end. Silas and his mother were definitely up to no good. I took a deep breath and continued my work.

I woke up with a start. I couldn't place a finger on what it was that woke me. I realized it was morning already. I slept off last night while using my computer. I quickly shut it down and went to the bathroom. I spent more time thinking than bathing. I went downstairs for breakfast. The table was empty. I was told by a servant that dad has gone to the company. I made my choice of breakfast and it was delivered in a record time. It was 9:30am when I left for work.

I got to work and met my secretary running around fixing things. I stopped and asked, "Williams, what's the matter?"

"Good morning President Frost", he greeted.

" Answer the question", I ignored his greeting and said impatiently.

" Mr Frost is here and he said there will be a board meeting at 10". I looked at my watch. It was few minutes to ten. I walked into my office saying nothing more. At two minutes to ten,I stood up to go for the meeting. I was the last to arrive and they all stood up in respect, with the exception of my father, of course. The meeting began. After all said and done, dad went to the main topic.

"I have decided to create room for my second son in my company. He is going to be the vice President", dad stated in plain words.

A lot of the board members murmured but they were all too afraid to voice out their disagreement and grievances. Only a few courageous and leading members spoke up.

"He hasn't been here all along. How is he going to possibly assume office and discharge duties efficiently?", asked one

" That's true. The company has been fine under Kelvin's management. What do we need a vice president for? For the subsidiary firms? ", another gave his opinion.

I noticed a slight frown on Silas' face. He was not happy that the board members had absolute confidence in me.

" He can handle it", dad said with a tone of finality.

"Well, Kelvin is here as president. We can be certain the business will keep thriving as usual", commented another in my favor. The matter was eventually settled.

Kelvin Frost as President and Silas Frost as Vice President. The two positions were only a word apart, yet they were also a world apart.

Work began in earnest. I went about my duties as the president normally. Three days later, I went on a business trip. While I was away, a business partner called me.

" Good evening President Sullivan ", I greeted as the call connected

" Why did you send Silas to sign the business proposal? ", he asked without bothering to hide his disappointment.

I was surprised. I hadn't sent Silas anywhere nor asked him for help.

" President Sullivan, I did no such thing. I told you initially that I went on a business trip", I explained myself the best way I could.

"Okay. So there is a misunderstanding here?", asked President Sullivan.

" Yes, there is"

"I believe you. I know you would do no such thing and that's why I refused to sign the deal. I know you always give me personal attention", he finished. I laughed lightly.

" Always", I replied. "I will attend to you once I return"

"Okay. That's better", he said and the call was ended.

Silas, I wondered what he was up to. Signing business proposals? And with my top clients. Frostbite Enterprise was a leading company and many companies would give anything to go into business with it. I had put in my best all my years as president to take that company to greater heights. And now, it has become the greatest and biggest in the country. I had to be careful with Silas.

The business trip was over and I was waiting for Victor at the airport. He walked up to me and hugged me. He was my very good friend despite the difference in our family background.

" How was your trip? ", he asked as soon as we entered the car.

He was one of the privileged few who ask me such questions casually. I smiled and replied," It was okay oo. Just stress. Everyone wants to work with Frostbite. We just have to go with companies that meet the requirements and big companies".

"Don't you think it's high time you make room for some local companies?", Victor suggested.

" Not yet. I am making plans for another subsidiary firm and they can go there". After a brief pause, I quickly asked. ."How are things at home?"

"I think things are still normal. To the best of my knowledge, nothing is different", he replied. I nodded and said nothing. Victor continued. What he said next made me shiver.

" But… Silas and Camilla...something is odd there ".
