Chapter 22 All in vain
Amelia looked at Ms. Linda placing one delicate dish after another in front of her, making her mouth water.
"Ms. Linda, this is too exquisite. How long did you spend making all of this?"
Ms. Linda wiped her hands on her apron and smiled.
"As long as you enjoy it, that's all that matters. These are my specialties. Madam loves the pastas that I make so I make it quite often. By the way, Madam is from the northern region and has a bold appetite. She likes to eat lamb and these pastas, and..."
"Ms. Linda, you should sit down and eat too after you're done."
Damien interrupted and Ms. Linda awkwardly smiled.
"Oh, alright. I have one more thing to do. You go ahead and eat first."
Amelia blinked and glanced at Damien a few times, pursing her lips. She felt that Mr. Kingsley might not want her to know about his mother, so she tactfully refrained from asking too much.
Damien picked up a lotus paste bun and put it on Amelia's plate.
"Eat quickly, I'll take you to buy a cellphone later."
"Huh?"
Amelia looked up at him.
"No need, Mr. Kingsley. You should go to work and not let it affect your job. I can ask my friend to accompany me to buy it."
Damien paused with his chopsticks.
"That little pretty boy from yesterday is also your friend?"
Amelia was puzzled. Little pretty boy? Finally, she realized he was referring to Anthony.
Although Anthony looked good, if anyone could be called a little pretty boy, it should be Mr. Kingsley. He was so handsome, much more than Anthony.
Amelia didn't speak, and Damien's face turned black, setting down his chopsticks to look at her.
"To make friends, it's important to look at character, and that person clearly has wicked intentions."
Amelia agreed wholeheartedly, nodding vigorously.
"Yes, yes, Mr. Kingsley, you have an accurate judgment of people. Ashley is just a silly girl."
Just from Anthony using Ashley to ask her out, it was clear that Anthony wasn't a genuine person.
Damien was a bit confused, thinking that Amelia was going to speak up for that pretty boy. He didn't expect her to react like this, and the seriousness on Damien's face disappeared, replaced by a slight smile.
"Yes, you have to be good and careful not to be deceived. There are many bad people out there."
Amelia's mouth twitched. How did that sound like a warning about kindergarteners getting tricked by candy?
She was an adult, for goodness' sake. But thinking that Mr. Kingsley was looking out for her, she didn't dare to argue.
Ms. Linda stood in the kitchen, smiling as she watched the two, giving a genuine aunt-like smile.
They were such a well-matched pair. If the lady of the house found out, she would surely discuss it with Ms. Linda over and over again.
After breakfast, Damien took Amelia out, bringing along a messenger bag filled with snacks, tissues, sunscreen, a water bottle, and other things.
Amelia saw the bag and found it very pretty, unable to resist asking.
"Where did you buy this bag? It's so nice. I want to buy one for Ashley too. She will definitely love it. She really likes these bunny patterns."
Ms. Linda thought to herself,
"There's no second one anywhere. This is a customized version. Young master only has one."
But Damien said, "I'll buy one for you."
Amelia didn't know the price of the bag and thought it was just a normal one, so she didn't bother to calculate the cost.
She smiled and said, "Yes, thank you, I would like that very much, Mr. Kingsley."
Ms. Linda hesitated to say something, but when she saw Damien dismissively glance at her, she immediately shut her mouth, although she sighed inside. It seemed like her young master was going to be taken advantage of again.
Damien took Amelia out today in a red sports car, and Amelia felt uncomfortable with its flamboyance. She was a bit restless.
Finally arriving at the mall, as soon as Amelia got out of the car, she felt several pairs of eyes on them. Damien came over and put a hat on Amelia's head, covering her entire face.
Holding her wrist, they walked into the mall, where the salespeople warmly greeted them.
There were also a few people looking at their phones, but their gazes were all focused on Damien.
"Am I seeing things? Is it really Mr. Kingsley?"
"It is, and Mr. Kingsley isn't even wearing a mask. He's easy to recognize."
"But who is the person next to Mr. Kingsley? From the figure, that's a girl. Is Mr. Kingsley really in love? Heaven..."
"Oh, what a big surprise!" Several girls took out their phones and quietly took photos of Amelia.
Although they were discussing in low voices, Amelia's ears were too good and she could hear everything. She couldn't help but look at Damien, only to see him attentively listening to the saleswoman introduce the phone.
She reached out and gently tugged on his sleeve. Several gasps came from nearby.
"Ah, ah, ah! Isn't she too clingy? Pulling on his clothes!"
"Mr. Kingsley, look at Mr. Kingsley's expression, how tender!"
Damien leaned his ear close to Amelia's face. Amelia nervously whispered to him.
"Somebody is taking photos of us. Let's leave quickly and not buy it."
Damien comfortingly smiled at her.
"It's okay, let's buy it. Take a look at which one you like."
Amelia felt like there were more people in the store now. She felt uncomfortable being stared at and didn't carefully choose. She just listened to the saleswoman saying that the black version was more durable, so she directly asked for that one.
Damien was slightly surprised and asked the saleswoman.
"Are there any other colors for this model?"
The saleswoman apologized.
"No, only black."
Damien confirmed with Amelia again.
"Do you really want this one?"
Amelia's full attention was now on the people around her. She didn't even care about the phone anymore. She just wanted to leave quickly, so she nodded eagerly.
"Yes, yes, this one."
Damien directly told the saleswoman.
"We'll take two, wrap them up."
Amelia looked at Damien with confusion.
"Why do we need two?"
Damien lowered his head and whispered in her ear.
"Private line."
At first, Amelia didn't understand what he meant. It wasn't until Damien escorted her out of the store and into the car, that she finally realized his intention.
"Mr. Kingsley, why are you getting me a private line? Actually, it's not necessary."
"There is, because you are carrying my child in your belly."
Amelia didn't know how to respond. Well, everything was for this baby, and the director at the hospital was actually right. Maybe it really was a golden baby.
Damien dropped off Amelia at home and then hurried to the company.
Amelia sat alone on the sofa, playing with her new phone. She inserted her SIM card, logged into the messaging app, and then the notifications started pouring in. Most of them were from Ashley and her family.
She first listened to the voice messages from her father and brother, saying that she had made her mother sick and to quickly come home and apologize to her.
Amelia held her phone, initially filled with joy but now it all disappeared. Would apologizing really solve everything if she went back? She touched her belly. She couldn't go back yet, as she would definitely be beaten.
What if something happened to the baby? How would she explain to Mr. Kingsley? How would she explain to the baby?
Then she opened Ashley's message. Ashley was crying with a tongue out, lamenting her deep affection for feeding dogs, and complaining about Anthony.
"He is not a good person. How dare he covet her best friend? He's simply a scoundrel.
