Chapter 34 He Wanted To Hug Her
"I'll pick you up right after work," Karl suggested. "Give me the address."
"Okay." Lilly gave the address of the mansion and chatted with Karl for a while. Suddenly, she received another call.
Lilly guessed it was from the film crew's director, Ziyan. She quickly said goodbye to Karl and hung up. After the conversation, on the way back to the living room, she suddenly remembered that she had planned to meet Karl some time later, when the scar on her neck had faded...
How could she have completely forgotten that and made an appointment with Karl today!
Lilly silently scratched her head. Forget it. Perhaps she should have used a powder puff to apply two more layers of powder to cover it up, or borrowed a small silk scarf from the maid and tied it around her neck.
Otherwise, if Karl had seen this scar, he would have definitely become suspicious. And if Karl had become suspicious, it wouldn't have been so easy to persuade her to leave.
"Ziyan, you have a call. It seems it's your film crew director..." Lilly said, returning to the living room.
As soon as she entered the living room, a strong smell of smoke hit her nose, catching her off guard. She couldn't help but cough violently.
Ethan heard her cough violently, and the hand that was about to lift the cigarette to his mouth instantly froze.
The girl gasped for breath, her brows furrowing slightly. Crystal tears flowed from the corners of her eyes. Her eyelashes were moist and trembling, like a fragile butterfly, and he wanted to hug her and love her.
Ethan's heart fluttered; his throat tightened with tension. He looked away and stubbed out his cigarette.
Answering the call, Ziyan approached Shawn and said, "Dad, I've been transferred to the next filming location, and I need to get back to the crew."
"Okay, go ahead," he replied indifferently.
Ziyan reluctantly glanced at him again, but he turned away, his tall, slender figure utterly cold.
She wanted him to drive her back to the crew, even though he had asked her to take her driver's license test when she became an adult and had bought her a car. She had just returned, but she didn't want him and Lilly to be alone for so long.
"Dad..." Ziyan muttered.
"You're still not leaving?" He turned his back on her and interrupted coldly, "A film crew is not a place for entertainment. I can help you with special needs, but I won't indulge your other vices. You must learn to abide by the rules of the entertainment industry."
"Yes... I know," Ziyan said irritably, removing her sunhat and glasses and heading to the entrance to change her shoes.
As she exited the villa, the smoke in the living room cleared, and Lilly, who had been coughing heavily from the suffocation, gradually stopped coughing.
Ethan glanced at her and turned to go up the stairs.
Lilly stood in the living room, staring blankly at him as he went upstairs, watching him enter the study and close the door.
She couldn't help but smile bitterly. I see, it was truly for Ziyan's sake. When Ziyan was home, he didn't go upstairs; instead, he sat in the living room for the first time. As soon as Ziyan left, he couldn't wait to go upstairs and didn't want to stay with her even for a minute.
"Lilly, do you have any grudges against Mr. White?" Maid emerged from the kitchen at that moment, asking worriedly.
When the three of them were having dinner, the maid was waiting for them in the dining room. She had witnessed Ethan's poor treatment of Lilly with her own eyes. At that moment, she had many questions. After dinner, they ran to the living room one after another. All she could do was return to the kitchen to wash the dishes.
Seeing Ethan walking up the stairs, she hurriedly grabbed Lilly and asked her a few questions.
Lilly hid her sadness, waved her hand, and smiled: "You're overthinking it; it's not true."
"Is that so... Just now, when we were having dinner, sir was so scary. If you didn't know better, you'd think he held a grudge."
So, outsiders can see how much he hates her? Then perhaps he really does hate her. Lilly felt extremely tired, shook her head, smiled again, and gave her an ambiguous answer.
Then she walked over to the sofa, lay down, made herself comfortable, closed her eyes, and fell asleep. This time, she dreamed of Ethan again, just like she had when she had just left.
But there were some slight differences. In her dream, Ethan was no longer as indifferent as before, but looked at her silently, his eyes as complex as an abyss.
Just as he always did when he looked at her since returning home, his gaze was unpredictable. Lilly smacked her lips and wondered in her sleep if that was hatred in someone's eyes.
She had never hated anyone. Even if Ethan had bitten her and changed his attitude toward her so drastically, even if he had said he hated her and coldly slapped her in front of everyone, she wouldn't hate him.
How could four years of deep love be wasted like that?
"Ethan..." Lilly closed her eyes tightly and whispered. Ethan's outstretched hand stopped on Lilly's cheek, and a subtle tenderness appeared in his cold eyes.
Returning to his office, he continued smoking. His throat was dry from smoking too much, so he went downstairs for a drink of water.
For the past two months, he'd come down from his office almost every day at noon, quietly walk around the sofa, and silently watch the sleeping girl until she began to wake up, then leave.
Lilly's face was calm as she drifted off to sleep, and a gentleness glimmered in her delicate features, like that of an angel lost in the mortal world.
He doesn't know if it was because she'd just recovered from a serious illness, but her face, always rosy, looked a little pale today. The crust on her lips and the purple bruises on her neck were horrifying, but they were his marks.
Ethan, distracted by what he saw, raised his hand to touch that beautiful, pure face. At that moment, he heard Lilly calling his name.
He was excited and was about to hug her despite everything, but he heard Lilly continue to say, "Don't go too far...Ethan, I hate you..."
In Lilly's dream, he looked at her with such a complex gaze as he ate her favorite ice cream. As soon as she passed by, he took the ice cream and stepped back.
However, that look also unsettled her, and she always felt a sense of pain in it. She was about to take the ice cream, but upon seeing that look, her heart inexplicably sank with pain.
Ethan took a bite, looked at her, looked at her again, and stepped back, so she could only watch as he moved further and further away from her. How could she tempt people with such food and not let them get close!
