Chapter 115
The first place the police went to search for Ashton was his home, when they arrived they couldn't find him anywhere, then they began searching all the rooms.
Meanwhile, Evie who was tied up and locked in Ashton's closet began making muffling screams, alerting the police that were in his room, they hurriedly went to open the closet and were shocked to find a woman tied up in there. The police loosed the rope Ashton had used to tie up her hands and then removed the tape from her mouth.
Evie couldn't stop crying and pleading for the police to save her.
"It's alright Ma'am, you're safe now, you're safe now." The head officer assured her, he then went on to ask her who she was and why she was being locked up in there.
When Evie mentioned her name, it instantly ringed a bell. "Evie Blair?" The officer questioned, just to be sure he heard correctly.
"Yes officer, my name's Evie Blair and I..." Evie trailed when she noticed the look the head officer gave to the other officer beside him.
"W...What's wrong officer?" Evie stuttered, sensing something wasn't right.
"I'm afraid you'll have to come with us Ma'am." The officer stood up and helped Evie up as well.
"Come with you how? I...I don't understand, you should be looking for Ashton, he's the one behind everything!"
"We're on that already Ma'am and I assure you that we will catch him before he escapes. As for you, you're being charged with the murder of May. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You also have the right to an attorney, if you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you."
"What? No no no, this isn't right, I didn't do anything." Evie screamed. "You can't arrest me, I didn't do anything!"
The police tried to cuff her hands but she wouldn't let them, in the end they had to forcefully cuff her hands and then the head officer asked them to take her away.
Evie kept on screaming on struggling with the police as they took her away, she also wouldn't stop denying the charges being laid against her, saying they were false, but all her pleas for a release fell on deaf ears.
The police also got know that Ashton wasn't just a business man but also a drug addict due to the many drugs they found in his room.
While they were still searching Ashton's home for any more evidence they could find, an officer rushed to meet the head officer and informed him of Ashton's arrest, he was actually on his way to board a flight out of the country when he got arrested.
"Alright people, let's round up here, Ashton Kutcher has been caught." The head officer announced.
Soon the police rounded up, they also took all the drugs they could find in Ashton's home since that will also be used against him.
Alicia and Mike were in the station, since Evie and Ashton have been arrested, the truth about the whole issue is out and now Adams can be released.
Alicia couldn't stop pacing around the station, she just couldn't wait to see Adams and the moment she saw him coming, she ran straight to him and jumped on his body, hugging him so tight like her life depends on it.
Mike could only smile as he looked at them.
"We did it Adams." Alicia said in tears. "We won."
Adams kissed her cheeks lovingly. "We did it." He smiled brightly, his eyes then went to Mike and he smiled at him. "Thank you." He mouthed.
One month later....
Everything seems to have returned to normal in the lives of Adams and Alicia, Adams business was going well now since the police cleared the whole misunderstanding and also made a public apology, his company's rating also skyrocket and everyone who withdrew from the company returned and even offered a sincere apology to Adams, he even got to have new investors who were more than willing to invest and partner with his company. Life couldn't be more better for them.
As for Ashton and Evie, they were both sentenced to life imprisonment for the crimes they committed. Evie did try to deny what she did but Ashton was smart enough to have recorded their conversation from the last time he had visited her and that's what he used against her. If he's going down then he must take her down with him.
Evie couldn't bare the thought of spending the rest of her life in jail, so she took her own life by committing suicide. She doesn't even regret what she did, the only thing she claims to regret was not killing Alicia sooner and who knows, maybe Ashton will follow suit.
Evie's parents learnt of everything their daughter did, they felt so ashamed and couldn't stop apologizing to Adams and his family, they had no idea that the daughter they loved dearly, the daughter they thought they had raised right would be capable of doing such evil things. Yes she was their only daughter and only child, her death was also a big blow to them but they couldn't do anything about it, they tried their best to raise her properly but she chose her own path in the end, a path that led to her early demise that left her parents completely heartbroken.
Alicia and Adams decides to get married again and today happens to be that day, a day of joy and celebration for them.
As Alicia looked at her reflection in the mirror, she couldn't stop smiling, she didn't think things would turn out the way they did but she was grateful for everything that happened. Her eyes went to the picture frame in front of her, it's a photo of May smiling so bright, as she stared at the photo, she began to tear up.
"You have no idea how bad I wish you were here to witness this day with me May." She chuckled softly. "Maybe we would have gotten married together, I know how much you and Mike loved each other and that's been your dream as well."
"I hope you're in a better place May, I'm really sorry it had to end like that, you really didn't deserve that." She sniffed. "I'm not going to cry today because I know if you had been here then you would have given me an earful."
"Thank you for the sacrifice you made for us." She picked up the picture frame and kissed the photo. "I promise I'll never forget about you, you'll forever be in my heart May."
"One day, we'll meet again sister." She placed the picture on her chest and hugged it tightly, still trying her best not to cry.
A knock on her door interrupted her. Alicia kissed the picture once more and kept it back on the table, she composed herself before giving the person her permission to come in.
Mrs Bridget opened the door and walked in, the moment she saw Alicia dressed up in her lovely wedding dress, she just couldn't hold back her tears. She hurriedly walked to her and hugged her briefly.
"You look so beautiful my dear." She complimented as she broke the hug.
"Thank you Mother." Alicia replied with a smile.
"I wish nothing but happiness for you on this day, May you always be happy my dear." She blessed and Alicia thanked her.
Mrs Bridget eyes went to the photo of May on the table and she sighed sadly. "We all wish she was still here." She smiled. "But I know that she's in a better place and is watching over each and every one of us from above." She touched the photo and thanked May for everything she's done for Alicia and Diane.
"Come on dear, it's time." Mrs Bridget said to Alicia.
Alicia nods in reply, she didn't know why she was so so nervous, it's not like this is going to be the first time she's getting married, but still, she can't shake off that nervous feeling, she took a deep breath and exhaled.
"Wish me luck." She said to May's photo.
Alicia carefully stood up and left the room with Mrs Bridget by her side.
