Chapter 98 Roses

Chapter 98 Roses
JESSICA

"Yeah. I know. It looks too good to be a guest room but my parents love treating their guests like kings, so," he shrugged.

"Um i...I thought I was uh...." I paused, making him raise his brows.

I fiddled with my purse a bit as I struggled to speak.

"What's wrong?" he asked.

I shook my head. "Nothing. I love the room. Thank you."

He smiled, walking closer to me.

"I am glad you do," he said, leaning in, taking my hand, and placing a kiss on my forehead.

I closed my eyes momentarily and opened them as he pulled away.

"The maids will attend to you soon. I need to go take a shower real quick."

I nodded.

"I will come back to check on you before I go to sleep, okay?"

"Okay," I said, smiling.

"Alright. See you in a bit," he said, releasing my hand and walking out the door. He closed the door, making me let out a sigh.

I looked around the room again.

I walked towards the bed and sat on the edge.

I thought this was his room and we were going to spend the night together.

Why did he give me this guest room instead?

I don't understand him.

A knock came on the door, taking my attention.

"Michael?"

No response.

I got on my feet and walked towards the door. Grabbing the doorknob, I opened the door, revealing a young maid with a blanket and a few things in her hand.

Disappointment washed me a bit.

"Hello, ma'am."

"Hey," I said, forcing a smile.

"I brought some things for you for the night."

"Oh, right. Thank you," I said, reaching for the things.

"Is there anything else you need, ma'am?" she said.

"No that will be all."

She nodded and smiled. "Good night, ma'am."

"Good night," I said as she walked away.

I closed the door and rested my back on it, letting out a sigh.

I looked at the things in my hand.

I have a blanket, new pink pajamas, a new toothbrush, and toothpaste.

All for the night.

Alone.

As always.

Sighing, I headed towards the bed. I placed the things on the bed before heading towards the bathroom.

Time went by and I am ready for bed. Dressed in my slightly fitted pajamas, I walked towards the bed and got on it. I rested my back on the headboard and placed the blanket on my body.

I raised my knees and folded my arms as I stared at nowhere in particular. The room is cozy and quiet.

Ish.

All I could hear is thunder claps and the heavy rain outside.

I moved my eyes to the alarm clock. It is almost two AM.

Michael hasn't come to check up on me yet like he said he would.

Could it be he has already fallen asleep?

But he said he would check on me first.

I rubbed my arms, letting out a sigh.

I am not even sleepy.

I thought we would stay together. Why is he keeping his distance?

We are a couple.

I am his girlfriend for Christ's sake. Why am I in a guest room and not his room?

Sighing again, I rested my head on the headboard, closing my eyes.

The moment in Mexico flashed in my head.

In his strong arms bridal style.

Placed on the bed and his eyes on my body.

The kiss.

I bit my lips, feeling that familiar tingling in between my legs as he kissed down my body.

Pulled down my tiny sleeves.

Grabbed my boobs.

My shorts off.

He took me right there and...

I flinch at the sound of a knock on my door.

My heart pounded as I realized the blanket was off my body, making me fix the blanket as the door opened, revealing Michael dressed in black pajamas.

He smiled at me.

"Hey,"

I forced a smile.

"Hey," I breathed, clearing my throat as he approached.

God, what is wrong with me? Thinking about Uncle Xavier?

Really?!

"I thought you had fallen asleep," he said, sitting close to my legs. I lowered my knees, still trying to compose myself.

I shook my head. "I am not sleepy,"

"Why is that?" He asked, placing his hand on my legs.

I looked at it, feeling my body reacting weirdly.

I looked at him.

He is looking at me with a smile.

"Is it because you are away from home?"

I didn't respond but stared at him.

"You know people adapt differently when they are in a new place. They barely sleep on their first day in a new place. I guess you are like that," he said, chuckling.

I rested my eyes on him. My eyes fell on his lips and back to his eyes.

"Is something wrong?"

I didn't respond.

"Jessica?"

I couldn't stop myself. I reached for his face and crashed my lips on his.

He hummed as I moved my lips on his, wrapping my hands around his neck.

He hummed again.

Not kissing me back.

That didn't stop me.

Perhaps he is still in shock.

I went on but he pulled away gently, making my heart drop as I looked at him.

"Jessica....um..."

I furrowed my brows slightly.

"Not here, babe."

I opened my mouth to speak but stopped myself, looking away as I pursed my lips while regret filled me.

What does he mean?

"It's my parents' house. I don't want us to be disrespectful."

I looked at him.

"I hope you understand,"

"Do you really like me, Michael?"

His face twitched. "What? Why would you ask that?"

"Because...." I paused, heaving a sigh and looking away as I fought the urge to speak my mind.

I find it weird to speak out.

"Of course I like you, baby."

"Then why am I in this guest room instead of...instead of your room?" I asked, staring at him.

He stared at me.

"We are a couple, right? Why does it feel like we aren't?"

"Babe.."

"It's the second time you are rejecting. Why is....." I paused, looking away as I thought about the fact that he possibly doesn't like me like that.

God, this shouldn't be the main thing that is bothering me.

What about the teachings about sex before marriage? It is not right.

Why am I being upset?

It is sinful.

"Jessica...."

"It's okay." I retorted, looking at him with a tiny smile. "Forget I said that or asked those questions."

He kept staring at me.

"You are right. It is your parents's house. Disrespect is the last thing on my mind."

"Babe..." he called, reaching for my arm.

I moved back, adjusting to lie down.

"I am kinda sleepy right now. Let's talk tomorrow okay?" I asked, lying on my side before he could say anything.

I stared at the couches opposite me as I sensed him getting up from where he was seated.

I closed my eyes, feeling tears approaching.

Next, I heard a sigh and footsteps walking away.

The door opened and closed.

I opened my eyes and lay on my back. I let out a sigh, feeling disappointed in myself.

Why am I thinking about this?

What is wrong with me?

Next, I got flashbacks of the moments with uncle Xavier in Mexico, making suck my teeth as I turned to the other side.

I can't believe this.

Uncle Xavier?

Really?

That heartless jerk? Stop thinking about him and that time in Mexico.

It was a sinful mistake. Thinking about it makes it worse.

Just stop.

I rubbed my arm as I closed my eyes.

You have a boyfriend. He is nice.

His family likes you.

Intimacy shouldn't be your priority.

You are not married.

I can't wait for dawn. I want to go work and distract myself. Also hang with Catherine.

We have a family vacation to prepare for.

NEXT DAY........

WELLNESS OASIS HOSPITAL......

I placed my palm on the biometrics screen and my picture appeared as the screen beeped.

I walked into the nurses' area dressed in my scrubs and holding my lunch in a brown paper bag. It has been hours since Michael dropped me off at home and I had to act like last night did not happen.

I don't know if he noticed or just decided to play along cause he hurried away. He said he had an emergency.

I don't know what is with but....

I don't even want to think about it. I have patients to take care of.

I entered the locker room, moved to my locker, and opened it. I put my bag and lunch bag into my locker before closing it.

I locked it with my key and put the key in my pocket.

Walking towards the door, I took out my ID and hung the lace on my neck as I headed out.

I walked along the hallway, heading towards the front table.

What I want right now is for nurse Miriam to call us for an emergency. I would use some real distraction right....

"Jess, finally," Catherine took my attention.

She is at the front desk and holding a bouquet on the desk while staring at me with a smile.

"Cath," I called, joining her at the desk.

"Finally you are here. This came in for you," she said, handing over a small yellow card and the flowers.

"For me?" I asked as I took the card.

"Yes."

I looked at the card. It has Jessica and a red heart written on it.

I opened it and it read,

"Hey babe, I am sorry about last night. I didn't mean to make you feel unwanted. I really do like you. You have no idea how much. Please accept my little gift. Beautiful roses for the most beautiful girl in the world."

My heart fluttered.

"Love, Michael."

I couldn't help but smile.

"Ooh, someone is smiling," Cath teased, making me blush as I folded the card. She chuckled.

I reached for the roses, attempting to sniff them but....

"What is going on here?" Ashley took our attention. She is standing outside the desk.
