Chapter 87 John Saw It
Lately, the Williams Group had been dealing with a few hiccups, keeping John super busy.
Early this morning, John rushed to the airport, ready to head out of town to sort out some tricky issues. As soon as he plopped down in the airport lounge and ordered some food, Joshua took their bags to check in.
While waiting for his meal, John pulled out his phone to kill some time. He saw a notification from his feed and, being the compulsive guy he was, clicked on it right away. The first post was from Ella about some breakfast spot. John was about to skip it, but somehow, he ended up opening the photo in Ella's post.
He wanted to close it, but his eyes were glued to someone in the corner of the picture. Even though it was a bit blurry, he recognized Emily instantly.
John's eyes lingered on Emily for a moment, and he squinted at the guy next to her. But he quickly composed himself, acting like nothing happened. Only his slightly clenched fingers gave away his inner turmoil.
John's face stayed calm and collected, not showing any emotion.
He casually swiped across the phone screen, turning it off, but inside, he was a mess of confusion and annoyance, all hidden behind his calm exterior.
If Emily were there, she'd definitely know John was pissed.
The waitress bringing his meal felt the chill in the air as she approached. She hesitated for a second, then quickly got her act together and carefully placed his food on the small table in front of him.
"Sir, here's your meal. The soup is really hot, so be careful," she said with a slight bow.
John nodded slightly, not really paying attention to the food. His mind was still on that photo. His face was indifferent, his gaze deep, making it hard to read his mood.
Sensing John's intense vibe, the waitress got even more cautious, not wanting to disturb him.
Seeing that John didn't need anything else, she quickly turned and left, almost like she was escaping.
Once she was gone, John opened his phone again and stared at the photo. His gaze was deep and complicated, his thoughts a tangled mess.
After a bit, John took a deep breath, trying to calm down. He put his phone down and looked at the meal in front of him, but he had no appetite. The steaming soup now seemed bland and unappealing.
He leaned back in his chair and closed his eyes, trying to chill out. He kept wondering who the guy next to Emily was and what their deal might be. All these questions swirled in his head, making him more and more agitated.
Just then, Joshua came back after finishing the check-in.
"Mr. Williams, the tickets are ready. We can board anytime," Joshua said softly.
John nodded but didn't get up right away.
Seeing the untouched meal on John's table, Joshua sat down nearby. He had grabbed a couple of sandwiches earlier, planning to eat them on the plane. But since John hadn't eaten yet, Joshua figured he might as well start eating now. He'd been up since four in the morning without a bite, and he was starving!
By the time Joshua finished his sandwiches and downed a can of sugar-free soda, John still hadn't moved. Noticing John's expression, Joshua hesitated, then cautiously asked, "Mr. Williams, is something wrong? You don't seem to be in a good mood."
John opened his eyes and gave Joshua a cold glance without saying a word. Joshua wisely didn't push further, placing the luggage aside and waiting for John's next move.
After another ten minutes of silence, Joshua checked the time on his phone and gathered the courage to speak again, "Mr. Williams, should we get ready to board?"
John took a deep breath, forcing himself to focus on the task at hand. The Williams Group's project issues needed his attention, and he couldn't let personal feelings get in the way.
He stayed silent for a moment, then stood up and adjusted his clothes.
"Let's go," he said briefly, walking forward.
Joshua quickly grabbed the luggage and followed John to the boarding gate.
On the plane, John sat by the window, staring at the clouds outside. His eyes seemed to pierce through the glass, searching for answers in the sky. The roar of the plane's engines faded into the background, leaving him alone with his chaotic thoughts.
John closed his eyes and leaned back in his seat, trying to calm down. He needed a clear head to tackle the upcoming work challenges. The Williams Group's project issues were serious, threatening both the company's future and its reputation. He couldn't let personal feelings cloud his judgment.
As the plane passed through thick clouds, sunlight streamed through the window, casting a golden glow on John's face.
He opened his eyes, the confusion replaced by determination. No matter his personal feelings, he had to prioritize his work. The future of the Williams Group and everyone who depended on it was in his hands.
John opened his laptop and started reviewing project reports and data. Lines of data and analysis reports flashed before his eyes as he worked to find the root of the problems and their solutions.
During the several-hour flight, John barely rested. He was fully immersed in his work until the plane began to descend. Only then did he close his laptop, rub his temples, and look out the window again. The buildings on the ground became clearer, and he knew new challenges awaited him.
