Chapter 88: Cleaning the Room Together
After finishing breakfast, the three of them walked home with satisfied smiles on their faces.
A gentle breeze added a bit of coolness, and the sunlight wrapped around them like a golden blanket. Emily walked in the middle, with James and Joseph on either side, chatting away as they strolled.
"The weather's awesome today," Emily said, glancing up at the sky with a smile.
"Yeah, perfect for a walk," Joseph agreed.
James added with a grin, "We should do this more often."
As they walked, Emily and James pointed out the local scenery and some cool spots to Joseph, who listened intently, his eyes full of curiosity and excitement. Before they knew it, they were back at the apartment complex. Once home, Emily led Joseph straight to the room where her parents used to live.
Opening the door, the room still had a hint of the past, but it was clear it had been cleaned thoroughly. Sunlight streamed through the windows, casting a warm glow on the wooden floor. The walls were a soft beige, giving the room a cozy vibe. A simple chandelier hung from the ceiling, adding a gentle light to the sunlight. A wooden desk stood by the window, with a green plant on it, adding a touch of life to the room.
Emily turned to Joseph with a smile. "Joseph, this will be your room from now on. It's spacious and quiet. My parents used to live here. James's room is across from yours, and mine is next to his. If you need anything, just let us know."
Looking at the bright and spacious room, Joseph felt quite moved. He looked gratefully at Emily and said, "Emily, thank you so much. This room is beautiful, and I will cherish it."
Emily replied gently, "Joseph, make yourself at home. Since both of us are off today, we can help you organize your things. Did you bring everything over?"
Joseph nodded quickly. "Most of it is in these three boxes. The rest are just small items. I can bring them over when I return the keys to the landlord. Thanks for your help today."
Beside them, James said while heading towards the door, "No need to be so formal, Joseph. Come on, I'll help you bring the boxes in."
"I'll come with you. My boxes are a bit heavy," Joseph said, quickly following.
In no time, the two of them had brought all three of Joseph's large boxes into the room. James placed his box in the middle of the room and clapped his hands. "Alright, that's everything."
"Where should we start? These are your things, so you should open them. We'll help you," Emily said to Joseph. After all, it wouldn't be polite for her and James to open Joseph's boxes without his permission.
"Okay, sorry for the trouble." Joseph walked over and opened two of the boxes, then started to organize the contents.
These two boxes contained some of his personal collections, important documents, and memorabilia. He carefully took them out and placed them around the room.
Emily and James joined in to help Joseph organize. Emily took some decorative paintings from Joseph and planned to hang them in the room. "How about putting this painting here?" Emily asked Joseph and James while holding up a painting.
Joseph looked and nodded. "Great, Emily, you really have a good eye."
James, standing by the desk, didn't even turn around. "You handle it. I trust your judgment."
James spent some time adjusting the desk's position but still felt unsatisfied. He turned to Joseph and asked, "Joseph, do you think the desk here will block the light?"
Joseph thought for a moment and said, "No, it's just right. Thanks, James."
After a while of busy work, the room was finally organized. Joseph stood in the center, looking around with a sense of satisfaction and happiness. The room, though not very large, was warm and comfortable, making him feel at home.
"Alright, everything's done," James said, clapping his hands and looking at the organized room with satisfaction.
Emily nodded. "It looks much cozier now, like a home."
"Joseph, there's still one box left. Do you need help with it?" James asked, pointing to the last unopened box.
Joseph scratched his head, a bit embarrassed. "Well, that's my clothes in it. I'll sort it out myself later."
James waved his hand and smiled. "No problem, Joseph. If you need help, just let us know. Emily and I are here to help."
Emily added gently, "Yes, Joseph, we're friends. Don't feel embarrassed. But you've done enough for today. Have a good break first, and you can sort it out later."
Hearing their words, Joseph felt warmth in his heart and smiled, "Thank you. Don't worry, I'll let you know if I need your help."
James nodded and stretched. "Alright, that's it. Have a good rest. Emily and I will start preparing lunch and call you when it's ready."
Emily smiled, "Yes, get used to your new environment. We'll prepare a simple lunch, and we'll eat together."
Joseph nodded while looking at them gratefully, "Okay, I'll finish organizing the rest of my things, and I'm looking forward to your meal."
"Alright, we'll be outside. If you need help, just call us," As Emily spoke, she and James walked out of the room, gently closing the door behind them for Joseph.
Joseph replied, "Okay."
Joseph sat on the bed, his gaze falling on the unopened box in the corner as he took a deep breath. He knew these clothes were more than just garments; they carried his past memories and life. Now, bringing them to this new home symbolized that he was ready to start a new chapter.
He slowly stood up, walked to the box, and gently opened the lid. Inside, his clothes were neatly folded, each piece reflecting his past. But now, he had brought them to this new beginning, ready to start a new journey with them.
Joseph carefully took out the clothes, meticulously organizing them, then gently hung them in the closet or folded them into drawers. With each piece of clothing put in place, he felt a growing sense of peace and stability.
As he gently hung the last piece of clothing in the closet, Joseph looked around his new room.
Everything seemed harmonious. This room, though not very large, was enough to make him feel secure. He knew this would be the harbor of his new life.
