Chapter Forty One
The music started again. This time it was slow music meaning the couples would have to slow dance. " May I have this dance?" Kenneth asked Naomi.
Naomi smiled. " Yes you may my husband."
They took each other's hands and began to move slowly to the music. Kenneth was a good dancer, and he led Naomi with confidence and grace. They looked into each other's eyes as they moved, lost in the moment. It was a beautiful sight to behold.
After the slow song ended, the music shifted to a faster beat, and the guests started to dance more energetically. Kenneth pulled Naomi close and began to spin her around the room. They both laughed as they moved, completely carefree and happy. It was a night they would never forget.
But as the night went on, something began to feel off but they all ignored it. It was Clive's wedding day so they would enjoy it as such.
"Ken I need to sit down." Naomi whispered to Kenneth's ear.
Kenneth immediately pulled back and brought Naomi to the chair closest to them. "Are you okay?" he asked, looking concerned.
"I'm fine." She said, her voice weak. "I just need a break from all the dancing."
"Of course." Kenneth said, sitting down beside her. "Take all the time you need. We can just sit here and watch everyone else dance."
Naomi smiled, grateful for Kenneth's understanding. They sat in silence for a few minutes, just watching the other guests as they moved to the music.
"I'm feeling better now." Naomi said after a while. "
But I think I'll sit out all the dancing. But there's someone who's looking like he'd like to dance." Naomi pointed at Ezula who was standing in a dark corner. A glass of wine on his hand. " Your bestie needs someone to dance with Ken. Go".
Kenneth's eyes followed Naomi's finger and saw Ezula standing there. He did look like he wanted to dance, but there was no one to dance with. Kenneth felt a sense of duty to his friend. "I'll be right back." He said, kissing Naomi on the forehead before making his way over to Ezula.
Ezula turned as Kenneth approached him. "Hey." He said, his voice sounding a bit hesitant.
"Hey there." Kenneth replied, giving him a pat on the shoulder. "I was just thinking, you look like you could use a dance partner."
Ezula smiled, and looked at his friend. " And you left your wife to be my dance partner huh? " Ezula smiled at Kenneth teasing him.
Kenneth laughed. "Well, she's very understanding." He said, shrugging his shoulders. "Besides, I think you'll have more fun with me than with her."
Ezula's smile widened. "You're right about that." He said, taking Kenneth's hand. "Come on, let's show these folks how it's done."
The two of them made their way to the dance floor, immediately attracting attention from the other guests. They were both skilled dancers, and they moved together in perfect sync, drawing cheers and applause from the crowd. Even the band seemed to play a little bit more enthusiastically as they glided on the dance floor. Even out doing the main couple that was David and Clive who were the ones celebrating their wedding.
It was clear that Kenneth and Ezula were naturals when it came to dancing. They were like a well-oiled machine, moving in perfect harmony. There was something about the way they moved together that was just magical. It was as if they were completely in tune with each other, almost as if they could read each other's minds.
The music came to an end, and Kenneth and Ezula bowed to the crowd. They were met with thunderous applause and shouts of "encore!" Kenneth and Ezula grinned at each other, and then looked at the band. "You up for another?" Kenneth asked.
"With you? Always."
With that, the band started up again, and Kenneth and Ezula took their positions. This time, they danced even more gracefully than before. Their movements were more fluid, more in sync. It was as if they were one entity, moving together as one. They spun, they twirled, they leapt. It was a spectacular performance.
And then, as the song came to an end, Kenneth and Ezula ended their dance with a dramatic flourish, bowing to each other and to the crowd. The crowd went wild, cheering and clapping with abandon. It was a moment that would be talked about for years to come. Clive and David were clapping too as they walked to the both of them.
"Oh wow this is a new one." Clive commented to his cousin. " You actually outstaged us on our own wedding."
David also crossed his arms in fake offense.
"Oh, come on, you two." Kenneth said, grinning from ear to ear. "We were just adding a little entertainment to the evening. No need to be jealous."
"Jealous?" David said, pretending to be offended. "Of course we're not jealous."
"We're just amazed at your ability to dance like that." Clive added, a twinkle in his eye. "We bow to your superior dance skills."
"Now you're just flattering us." Kenneth said, chuckling.
"Only the truth, my friend." David said, patting Kenneth on the back. "We must know how you two learned how to dance like that."
Clive nodded. " I mean I knew you guys were close okay but you danced like you had been dancing together for years what's up with that?"
Kenneth and Ezula exchanged a look, and then Kenneth said, "Well, it's a long story."
"We've got all night." Clive said, taking a seat next to his husband. "Spill the beans."
So Kenneth and Ezula took turns telling the story of how they had met, how they had become friends, and how they had started dancing together. It was a story that was full of laughter and joy, and by the end of it, even David and Clive were charmed by it.
"I had no idea you two were such good friends." David said, looking at them in awe. But Clive had enough of Kenneth and Ezula stealing his moment with his husband.
"Uhem." He cleared his throat with a smirk. " I think it's about time that we head to the dining table now!" He announced to everyone. There was meat there waiting for everyone.
Everyone agreed, and soon they were all gathered around the table, tucking into the delicious food. Clive and David sat next to each other, their hands intertwined as they ate and chatted with the others. Even though Kenneth and Ezula had stolen their moment, they were still happy to be surrounded by family and friends.
As the night went on, the conversation turned to more serious topics, like politics and the state of the world. But even though the conversation was serious, there was still laughter and camaraderie. It was a night full of love and connection, and it would be one that would be remembered for a while by all who were there.
"So." Kenneth started after the meal was done. " Since we're done with all this old people nonsense we can start with our young party now!"
Bethany hit her nephew's head. " Old people nonsense huh?!"
"I'm just teasing, auntie." Kenneth said, holding his hands up in surrender. "You know I love you and your 'old people nonsense'."
Bethany shook her head, but she was smiling. "I know you do, you little rascal."
With that, Kenneth got up from his chair and began clearing the table, with the help of David and Clive. Once the table was cleared, he turned to the others. "Come on, let's get this party started!"
And so the night continued, with music and laughter filling the air.
