Chapter 94 Chapter 94 Micah Unannounced
Rebecca’s POV
“No! Are you silly?!” Natasha nagged on the phone.
“Okay! This is where it ends. You are going to call him back right now, and you will tell him that you are done!”
“If you won’t, I swear I will!” she nagged.
I knew Natasha was someone who was always true to her words. If she said she was going to do something, she was going to do it. Micah’s behavior irritated her that much that I had to see this side of her.
“It was a red flag,” she had calmly said before she nagged. But before, I kind of made excuses for him. She needed to put more action into her voice and let me know I was making a mistake.
Deep down inside of me, I knew this too. But there was another part that didn’t want to write it off just like that. I mean, we only just started, right? I shouldn’t judge him like that too early, right?
“Okay,” I said on the phone to Natasha.
“I know what to do about this,” I said again, and then we ended the call.
I wanted to give myself adequate time to think. So, I didn’t call Micah back immediately. Instead, I got into my car and had my chauffeur drive me to the conglomerate before anywhere else.
It was such a long day at work. I had meetings with respective board members of each company, and we discussed ways to move forward and also fused our large conglomerate under one single name that would register in the hearts of the people and make them keep coming back to patronize us.
Meanwhile, in the middle of the meetings, Micah’s calls continued. He was not relenting. But my phone was not with me; it was with my PA.
“Madam, he is calling again,” she said to me each time.
Nevertheless, I didn’t take that call. One thing I learned from my mother—aside from the fact that I was taking my time to think about the way forward with Micah—was that it was never best to mix business with love or pleasure.
Micah could wait, and so, I made him wait.
At 7 p.m., I was done with the meeting and got back into my limousine and instructed my chauffeur to drive me home.
I was too tired that once I hit the bed, I was certain that I was going to sleep off immediately. However, when we reached my gate, “Micah?” I muttered out of shock.
He stood by the gate, seated on the flower guide by the fence as if he had been there for hours.
Right a bit distant from him, I saw his bike.
The moment he saw my car getting closer to him, he rose up and wiped his hand on his trousers.
This gesture confirmed my thought. Only when a person had been waiting for so long would they do something like this. Then he waved even when I was yet to step out of the car and smiled.
The smile on his face looked as though he had crafted the smile out because it looked so awkward.
Just then, “Stop!” I instructed my chauffeur, who pulled the car into a slow halt immediately.
With this, I stepped down from my car and walked to Micah.
“What are you doing here?” I sounded out of concern.
“I have been calling you and… and… you were not picking… and… and…”
“You should know I was at work, and I was going to return your call as soon as I got back home,” I said to him, my voice concerned, wondering how long he had been standing here.
“How long have you been here?” I asked him.
“Since afternoon,” he said to me, and I opened my eyes in shock.
“Since afternoon?” I exclaimed.
“You have been waiting here in the sun?” I exclaimed again.
He paused. “Sadly, yes,” he said after about ten seconds.
Then suddenly, I saw him going down on his knees. I was in shock because I didn’t know what was happening.
He knelt right before me and leaned up his face to look at me.
“I know you are wondering what type of man I am, and you are planning to leave me,” he began. His voice was filled with panic as if he was scared of me leaving him.
“But I promise you, I was not thinking right. I completely forgot about how generous you were to me yesterday, and… and… I am just a fool. Please, I am not like this. I am not a leech, I promise.”
I saw a drop of tear from his eyes. It was one thing for a man to kneel right in front of a lady, it was another to shed a tear.
When a man did this, it was evident that they meant their words. I mean, Gabriel never did this before, and I think when a man did this, he was genuine.
“Okay,” I said while I helped him get up on his feet.
“I am not leaving you, okay?” I said to him.
“But please, be mindful of what and how you do to me. Same as with me. I am not just any woman. I am a woman with experience, and I will think twice about anything I do,” I said, but he didn’t respond.
He only waited about two seconds and opened his arms to hug me.
“Shall we go in?” he asked me.
“I don’t think that is a good idea tonight,” I answered him. Then I watched his sad face look down to his feet. He took a few steps backward.
“Okay. See you tomorrow then?” he said.
“Yes, see you tomorrow,” I smiled as I turned. Hence, I got back into my car, and my chauffeur drove in.
