Chapter 19: Fight
I immediately got out of the car and headed straight to the canteen. I was still early, our schedule for the morning was set to start at 8:30 AM, and it was merely 7:00 AM.
I joined the queue, immediately drawing attention to myself. There were even some men who offered for me to join their line, but I declined. I abhor special treatment, or should I say, I despise when they give me what they call 'pretty privilege'? They were there first, so that line should be rightfully theirs. Some of them averted their gazes, which had been previously directed my way, because Kyle approached me and placed his hand around my waist.
I looked at him and, feigning innocence, removed his hand from my waist. I paid him no mind despite the narrowing of his eyes in disdain.
When I saw that they had macaroni soup, I was instantly enticed. I ordered it and immediately looked for a place to sit. I did not let Kyle carry my order.
He looked at me, visibly confused, and seemed to want to confront me due to my avoidance and cold demeanor.
I was about to sit down at the spot I found when Kyle forcefully pulled my arm, causing the hot macaroni soup to spill slightly on the person who pulled me.
I put down the tray and looked at my soup. Annoyed, I turned to Kyle. I was still hungry because I hadn't eaten with my parents and my stomach was empty.
"The fuck!" he cursed under his breath because he got scalded by the spilled soup.
I rolled my eyes. It wasn't my fault. He deserved it. Who pulls someone's arm forcefully when they're carrying hot soup? Wasn't he using his brain? Was he only capable of flirtatious deeds?
I watched him coldly. I didn't even offer my handkerchief and let him wipe himself.
I smirked and chose to sit and eat instead.
Kyle inhaled sharply, looking at me in disbelief. I looked at him and raised my eyebrows.
"What?" I retorted, responding to his sharp gaze.
He took another sharp breath, in disbelief at my treatment.
"You're not going to say sorry?"
Now, I was the one who inhaled sharply in irritation, rolling my eyes consecutively. He had some nerve. Was it my fault? Idiot.
"Is it my fault?" I arched my eyebrow perfectly.
"If you weren't such an absolute fool to pull me while I was carrying hot soup." I added.
"It's not my fault, it's yours," I added to my statement.
His eyes glinted fiercely as he looked at me. Some people were starting to look at us. They could hear this man's loud voice, after all.
"What did you say? It's my fault, why is it so hard for you to just apologize?" He shouted loudly, his voice echoing through the canteen.
Does he have no shame? Oh, I forgot, he doesn't have.
Why on Earth should I apologize to you? I didn't even apologize when I caught you lying.
Despite being irritated with the man standing before me, I calmly scooped a spoonful of macaroni soup and began eating. I lowered my spoon and stared icily at Kyle, who was still looking as irate as ever, watching me intently.
I've never been treated like this by anyone before. Not by my parents, not by my grandparents, and certainly not by Tres. And now this worthless man before me thinks he can treat me like this?
"Do you want us to fight here?" I asked, smiling at him. I was so tempted to splash the hot soup in his face.
He sighed heavily and sat down abruptly somewhere. He did a good job because I would have lost my appetite if he had chosen to sit across from me.
With a devilish smile, I thought to myself, you're going to feel the heat and pain, Kyle. My revenge will be three times as hot and painful.
I bought a bottle of water and took a gulp after I finished eating.
I picked up my backpack and left without bothering to call Kyle to follow me. He has a brain and legs. He doesn't need to be coddled or spoon-fed about what to do next. He has a copy of the schedule, so I won't be leading him by the hand anymore.
I finished my classes and left the room first. Kyle was close behind, he quickly grabbed my hand and lead me to a hidden part of the restroom.
I leaned against the wall and waited for him to speak, my patience wearing thin as I watched him.
He pulled at his hair in frustration. He approached me, his eyes red and clearly frustrated with me.
Was I this frustrated when I found out about his fling with Yanna? He must be out of his mind.
His face was just inches away from mine. He tried to kiss me, but I turned my face, his lips landed on my cheek instead.
"We have a problem," he stated, as though he had finally grasped the obviously situation.
"Do we?" I asked, stretching my lips into a smile, showing him my perfect white teeth.
He tilted his head, clearly annoyed with my response.
I sighed and pushed myself off the wall I had been leaning against. I bumped into her shoulder as I passed, leaving her standing there.
"What is your fucking problem, Yvonne Veronica?!" Her anger exploded in a tirade.
I grimaced. Here we go again. He wanted an argument, did he? Well, then I’d certainly provide him with one.
I spun around to face him, sending him a mockingly sweet smile that only served to fan the flames of anger burning in his eyes.
"You are the fucking problem, Quinto," I retorted.
He approached me menacingly, his stride heavy and deliberate. Suddenly, he pushed me against the wall with a force that took my breath away.
The impact was severe, and I nearly cried out in pain, but I managed to maintain a poker face, not letting out a single whimper or hint of discomfort.
Just as he was about to push me again, I retaliated with three consecutive slaps, each one landing with a loud smack on his face. The force of my slaps was so intense that their echo seemed to reverberate around us.
"You don't have the right to hurt me like that," I declared firmly, staring him down with a dangerous glint in my eye.
"And you have the right to slap me like that?!" He growled in response.
Who started this? Wasn’t he the one who initiated this physical altercation? It still hurt!
"Why, weren't you the one who started it?!" I shot back, raising my voice.
My calm demeanor vanished, replaced by the anger I had been feeling towards him for a while now.
Suddenly, I felt someone pull me away from Kyle, and I saw it was Yanna. She was still dressed in her teacher's uniform. This woman. Was she seriously intervening here, of all places? Was she going to interfere in everything?!
I yanked my hand out of her grasp, struggling to calm the anger simmering within me. I took a deep breath, then another, all the while staring pointedly at Kyle who was now looking down, his fists clenched.
"What is going on?" Yanna asked, completely oblivious.
I turned to face her, giving her an icy stare.
"What the fuck are you doing here?" I spat out. I was now unable to contain my words when confronted with these two. It was a miracle I was able to restrain myself from slapping her right then and there, calling them both out.
Her surprise was evident, but she quickly masked it. As she tried to reach for my hand, I yanked it away.
A flicker of fear crossed her eyes. I closed mine, and without another word, I walked into the ladies' restroom, bumping into Yanna's shoulder on my way.
I flung my backpack off with a loud thud and splashed water onto my face.
That bastard Kyle! He'd actually hurt me physically! My back was aching terribly! Damn him! I cursed him with every fiber of my being! This was the first time he had physically harmed me, and I would never, ever forgive him for it. I hated him, more than I ever thought possible!
