Tell me lies
Tell me lies
Raelynn POV
I couldn’t afford to let Kieran see that he was getting to me. Chipping away at the false armor I pretend to surround myself with.
It’s the only way I can convince myself he’s lying and stay. I’d spent the last few months slowly falling in love with a man who speaks in riddles. He picks and chooses what parts of himself he’s willing to lay bare to me, and each one becomes the key to a lies that make up his armor.
But those parts of him that he was willing to share… They showed me a glimpse into what hides in the shadows. The softness that exists beneath the lies.
The blue in his eyes is dulled from whatever drugs he’s been taking all week, and deep, sunken in purple skin surrounds his eyes.
Still, I’ve never seen anyone so hauntingly stunning.
“I don’t get you,” he whispers, gritting his teeth, and I prepare for the venom he’s about to spit at me, “I’ve done nothing but lie to your face for months. I keep pushing and pushing and pushing, but you just refuse to give up. Why waste your time trying to save someone who wants to drown?”
A deep sadness fills my chest, and I feel tears burn my eyes. I chew on the inside of my cheek as I give him my back, grabbing two warm muffins and taking a deep breath. I needed to steel my resolve. He was trying to push me away... For what reason, I couldn't tell yet, but I was hoping it was another one of his riddles.
Leaning on the counter, I slide Kieran a muffin, “Are you done throwing your little tantrum?”
I take a bite, arching a brow, and lock eyes with him.
“You’re starting to piss me off,” Kieran grits out, but it lacks bite.
“Good,” I shrug, taking another bite, and chewing slowly. “That makes two of us.”
Kieran’s signature smirk pulls on his mouth as he picks up his muffin, walking around the island until he’s standing across from me.
I watch as he takes a bite, studying me for a moment before pushing off the countertop and moving towards me until the tips of our toes touched. Kieran leaned down, his warm breath dusting over my face, and sending goosebumps trailing down my arms.
“Keep being a brat, Rae,” I watch his tongue glide along his top teeth. “See what happens.”
“Your little threats don’t scare me, Key,” his lips were only inches away from mine as I angle my head to look into his eyes. “I can see through your lies. Tell me something. Anything…”
I was trying to channel a badass female lead, something I could never be in real life. I wasn't like this, and I wasn't sure if he would buy the facade. But I needed him to see I wasn't going to give up on him that easily.
“I wanted to be a doctor when I grow up,” his eyes are locked on mine.
“Lie.”
“Lucky guess,” Kieran’s pupils have nearly consumed the blue. I scoff at the dismissal but the corner of his lip curls enough to tell me he’s playing a game.
“I was secretly on the baseball team freshman year in high school.”
“True. Number thirteen.”
The curl in his lips falls for a fraction of a second before the smirk is back in place, “I hate parties.”
“True.”
Kieran’s nose brushes against mine, “I’m a lost cause.”
“Lie,” I scoff, pulling away just enough to glare at him.
“Wrong, Bambi,” the way he says Bambi sends a shiver down my spine.
Bam-bee.
“Let’s try again,” his eyes dip to my lips, as he steps closer. My spine presses against the countertop as he leans over me.
Kieran’s tongue slides along the seam of his lips, “I really want to fuckin’ kiss you right now.”
My lips part to speak when Kieran’s mouth slams into mine, silencing the ‘true’ I was desperate to be right on. I know it’s wrong to ignore every elephant in this room, but I can’t bring myself to stop him… or myself.
I’d become addicted to Kieran Decker in ways that I cannot explain.
“Fuck, Rae,” he groans, lifting me onto the edge of the island. “Why can’t I stop?” Kieran’s lips trail down the column of my throat. “I know I can’t have you, but I can’t fuckin’ stop.”
“I don’t under….” The word dies on a moan when Kieran’s tongue flicks my pulse point.
“You’re far too smart not to understand, Bambi,” his tongue continues working the sensitive spot on my throat, “Didn’t take you for much of a liar either.” Teeth scape a trail up to the shell of my ear. Kieran’s tongue darts out before he bites down roughly on my earlobe.
“Tell me every single lie that you tell yourself to keep coming back for more.”
