Keep Her Safe

\[ALICE Point of View\]

“What do they mean they have my father? What’s happening here?” I asked with a terror-stricken face. “What is my father doing there!”

Bellamy stepped forward towards me but Alpha Zenon blocked him and held me by my shoulders, hoping to calm me down. “They must be lying, Alice. I made sure the security at your father’s place was strict enough to protect him from anyone who wanted to hurt him! Maverick is just trying to scare you!”

“Scare her? What does the bastard want from your fiancee, Alpha Zenon?” one of the rogues asked, alarmed by what was happening. “Do you need us to help you find where he and his men are?”

“It’s too dangerous. Not here in the forest when we are too few to fight against his forces. We are not sure how many men he has now. What if they’re just doing this to taunt us?” Bellamy snapped but he looked mad and annoyed that we couldn’t do anything about it. “What does he want? I thought you already paid Gabriel Drakon’s debt?”

“I did.” Alpha Zenon’s eyes were sharp as he looked around, trying to detect any malicious intent all over the area. “He must be wanting for more since he knows Alice is going to be the Luna of MoonClaw Pack.” His silent snarl reverberated through his throat. The gentleness on Alpha Zenon’s face was replaced with a thirst for blood and for the first time, I got scared of him.

He must have felt my shoulder quaked and he pulled me to his side protectively, not knowing it was him that made me tremble in fear.

Concern crossed Bellamy’s face but he couldn’t get near me. I felt his desire to pull me away from Alpha Zenon’s arms and I looked at him, begging for him to do it but he looked away and my heart shattered to pieces.

Goddess, I hate him.

Why didn’t he just go away?

“We have to get the lady to a safe place.” I didn’t know who among the rogues said it because I was too hurt to look at Bellamy anymore. I was distracted with my feelings for him when I should think about my father’s safety and I hated it. I made sure he would feel that hatred through our bond as I glared at him.

Alpha Zenon shut his eyes as if the decision he made in his head was too difficult for him and yet he had to do it. “Bellamy, please escort my fiancee back to the resort. Make sure she’s safe.”

My eyes widened, baffled. “No! I am not staying in the resort with him! I need to know if my father is really in the hands of those bandits! I need to know he’s safe as well!”

“I want to take you back there myself, love. But as the Alpha of this land, I have to make sure my people are safe from the enemies. I need to go with my friends and patrol the area. I just hope we will find Maverick in the forest so I will know what he really wants from us.”

Tears streaked down my face. I looked at Bellamy from the corner of my eyes. He looked away from me, his teeth clenched. I bit my lower lip hard when I saw his hands curled into fists until his knuckles turned white. No. I never wanted to go with him. Not with the man who was too repulsed with just seeing my face.

To my disappointment, Alpha Zenon started to remove his white shirt, crumpled it, and threw it. One of the rogues grabbed it before it hit the ground.

He gave Bellamy a threatening look. “Make sure Alice is safe, Bell. I will be back once I make sure no bandits are inside my borders.”

Bellamy sighed as if the task of being my bodyguard for a day was a huge hassle to him. “Fine. Just let me know if something happens, Zen. I will sprint back right here for backup.”

My fiance smiled at Bellamy, forgetting about their rivalry for a bit, and patted my mate on the shoulder. “I can handle this, Bells. Just make sure about Alice’s safety. I know you won't let anything happen to her. Right?”

His eyes turned serious when he repeated. “Right?”

“Yes. Of course,” Bellamy answered, lowering his face as if avoiding his friend’s stare.

The two nodded at each other in unison—eyes dark with caution about the threat that was happening inside the borders of the MoonClaw territory. Bellamy waited until Alpha Zenon and his rogue friends were finally out of our sight.

“I am not going back with you.” I snapped at him, making sure he would know how hurt I was for making me feel awful since he arrived at the resort.

“You have no choice, Alice,” he growled with impatience. His eyes glared. “Either you go with me or die staying here.”

“I have to go there! Didn’t you hear what I said when I read the letter out loud?! They have my father! I have to be there and save him! Make sure he will go out from the bandits alive!”

“Zen is already on his way to check if they really have your father or if Maverick is just here bluffing to make us both upset. I know that guy. He can be an *sshole sometimes and he’s dangerous.”

I shook my head, still panicking that they wouldn’t let me help with the search. “I have to do something,” I murmured while biting my thumb’s fingernail. “I can’t just wait here.”

“Trust your fiance, princess. He knows what he’s doing,” he said the words with hate and it was obvious all over his handsome face. “I know you are not used to trusting people but you can rely on him.” he looked at me and stared into my eyes so deeply that it made me nervous. “You can rely on me.”

There again. The words coming out of his lips were so opposite to how he was treating me. Why did he keep on making me feel as if he cared when no one was around? And when there was someone seeing both of us together, his snobbish and arrogant self would torture me as if I were nothing but a nuisance to him.

I grimaced as I walked past him, nudging him away from my path. “I can go back to the resort on my own. You can go after Alpha Zenon all you want if you think I’m just a bother to you.”

To my surprise, Bellamy grabbed my arm and pulled me towards him—my face landed on his broad chest with a bump. I lifted my face, eyes wide with anticipation, as he lowered his face to me, leaning so close I could feel his breath on my cheek.

“Who told you you’re a nuisance to me, Alice?” He growled so deeply it made my knees weak.
