Chapter 8 Chapter 8) The curse.
“Leave my sight before I change my mind”. He said to her, and as seconds passed, his eyes began changing into something even more dangerous.
They had become redder than they ought to be.
She wanted to see how far they were going to turn red, but he turned away from her.
“Leave!”.
She shuddered and retreated some steps backwards upon hearing his voice echoed. Nobody needed to tell her anything.
Not even Priscilla needed to tell her anything, and she hurried away and did not bother to look behind her.
She had no clue where she was heading.
Even as she panted fast. Even as her legs shook like they were going to break. She never stopped walking. Alejandro's aura had darkened incredibly and was enough to put fear in her body. After all, she had never witnessed anything like that before.
‘To hell with this. I want to leave this place! Why the heck did he dare order me to remain in his pack? In his mansion’.
‘I want to leave. Staying here with such an unpredictable creature like him is a bad idea. He is an unremorseful bastard’.
‘He is a damn freak’. She gritted her teeth as she thought.
But she knew how it was going to end for her if she tried to run away again, especially now that she had become a helpless mouse.
She knew that Alejandro was going to catch her, and who knew how things were going to end if that happened?
Since she was stuck with him, she might as well recover and kill him before leaving.
It took her a long time and a big struggle before she made it back to the guest room.
The first thing she did upon arriving inside the guest room was to go and sit down on the bed with her eyes fixed on the red full moon outside.
Now that she was alone, the look on her face changed to being blank and deadly, as if controlled by a remote.
“What was that?”. She muttered as her mind drifted to Alejandro and the way he changed, before he made her leave.
How his eyes turned red, and how his aura changed into something darker.
Placing two fingers on her chin, she asked herself, “Is that his weakness?”.
Suddenly, after thinking about it, a grin appeared on her emotionless face.
“Whatever that reaction was, if that turns out to be his weakness, I will use it against him and finish him off”.
“But now, I should lie low”.
Back at the Obsidian garden,
Alejandro fell to his knees and coughed out blood through his mouth. His veins stretched out and looked like they wanted to escape his flesh.
Because of the agonizing pain deep in his heart, he bit his lower lip to the point he tasted blood on his tongue, all because he did not want to let out any loud groan. He did not want anyone hearing his voice and finding out about his secret.
A secret he had sworn to his father that he would take to his grave and never let anyone find out about it, because if they found out about it, they were going to use it against him even though it happens once every month.
That was why he had warned that no one was allowed in the garden, because that was where he must always be whenever the abnormality began.
In fact, the rule that no one, except the Lycans, should be allowed access into the garden, had always been there.
By the way, Alejandro's neck was covered in sweat. And sweat was also sliding down his temples.
“Curse you, you curse”. He forced himself to say, and using brute strength, he rose to his feet and made his way to the old tree.
Yes. It was the same tree that Demira talked about before crossing paths with Alejandro.
He made his way over there and sat next to the tree with his cold body resting on the tree and making it his bed.
After he did that, the strange energy coming from the tree entered his body, and bit by bit, his pale complexion began to get better, and the slicing pain in his chest and his head began to fade away.
He soon fell asleep.
It had been years.
Years since someone laid a curse on the Lycans.
It traces back to a thousand years ago.
Once every month, during a red full moon, the Lycans would experience something worse than death.
They would feel their limbs or their legs tearing apart, and breathing was going to become an agony for them. During all this, they would wish they were dead.
But, that was not the worst pain… Once the Lycans reached 40 years, they were going to become mad and kill everything in their path.
That was what happened with Nicholas, Alejandro's father.
But before his 40th birthday arrived, he went to the pit and chained himself there, because he knew what awaited him and didn't want his selfishness to end the reigns of the Lycans over the werewolves.
{PS: The ‘pit’ is a secret room in the mansion, where the cursed Lycans go and die. The pit is known only to the Lycans}
So, when Nicholas’ 40th birthday arrived, he went crazy there, exactly like his father and father's father had gone crazy.
His eyes turned cold like a beast, and his emotions died completely.
He became an ice, whose only thought was to kill.
With his might, he attempted to break free from the chains. From the pit. But after gaining a little bit of his sanity, he pleaded with his son, Alejandro, and requested that he should end it all for him, just like he had ended his own father's miseries.
The painful screams of his father broke Alejandro, and with his eyes shut, he freed him from his misery.
Ever since then, he has not been able to sleep well at night. But mostly, he has been finding a way to break the curse.
According to the writings that his Lycan ancestors left, the curse began after one selfish mistake made by Lycan King Xavier.
He was a playboy and a womanizer, who had over 50 young females as his plaything. But that was not enough for him.
He was not satisfied and wanted more.
That was when he set his eyes on a certain beautiful widow who had lost her husband at a very young age.
He made his way to her but she refused.
That angered him because no one had ever rejected him before.
So he ordered her to be arrested and be brought to him.
After caging her, he raped her, and she became pregnant.
But she died during childbirth, together with her baby.
Though before she took her last breath, she laid a curse on him as she bled.
She swore that he and his generation were going to suffer until they went extinct.
At first, Xavier waved off the curse because he thought that it was mere words coming out of the mouth of a dying woman.
But, during the next red full moon, he experienced hell which he had never experienced before.
At that time, no one needed to tell him anything, and he believed that her curse was real.
When the agonizing pain happened the second time, he ordered for her body to be dug out of her grave, and he burnt it to ashes after accusing her of being a witch.
But despite that, it never ended.
Each month he suffered terrible pain, and for once, he stopped caring about women and was focused on finding a way to break the curse.
He searched day and night.
He did countless researches, until he discovered an ancient tree that could help ward off curses.
After 10 years of searching, he found the tree and had it planted in his royal garden.
By then, he had regretted his mistake and told his children about the curse, telling them to prepare themselves for the worse until the curse was lifted.
Unexpectedly, during his 40th birthday, he went crazy and went on a killing spree and killed everyone in his path.
He also killed four of his young sons, and it was his eldest son who hated him, that landed the final strike and had him killed.
Since everything happened within the Lycans’ mansion, and since everyone in the Lycans’ mansion died except the eldest son, he twisted the truth and lied that the warriors rebelled.
He did that because he knew that his reign would be at risk if anyone found out about the curse.
He was 19 years old at that time, and on his 20th birthday, that was when the curse had an effect on him.
Ever since then, the curse on Xavier's generation began whenever any of them entered 20 years old.
And their sanity had always disappeared whenever they entered 40 years old.
But even after many years have passed, not a single one of them has gotten close to breaking the curse.
And the worst happened to them again…
As years passed, it became hard for them to conceive a child or make a lady pregnant.
So one could say that the Lycan's legacy was on the brink of extinction, with Alejandro being the last Lycan alive.
