Chapter 56 - In my head.
Author POV -
Suddenly, a voice echoed in each of the minds of Jack, Dave, and Daisy. It was their wolves, speaking to them in a way they had never experienced before. The trio stood frozen, staring at each other in disbelief. Their wolves revealed that the moon goddess had bestowed upon them a remarkable gift - the ability to communicate with each other and their wolves through a mindlink.
As the wolves guided them through the process of opening and closing their links, the three friends were filled with a sense of wonder and excitement. They knew that this newfound power would be invaluable in their mission to rescue Cassie. With the ability to communicate silently, they could move undetected and still share vital information with each other.
The goddess had given them a gift beyond measure, and the trio couldn't wait to put it to use. They were now a force to be reckoned with, and nothing could stand in their way.
After some time spent practicing closing their mind it became second nature and talking to one another was like picking up a phone, the ability to master this skill was provided by their wolves.
Excitement filled them as they all came to the unanimous decision - once Cassie was out of harm's way, they would dedicate some quality time to strengthening their bond with their wolves, the thought of spending precious time with their loyal companions brought a smile to their faces. With their spirits high, they couldn't wait to embark on this adventure with their furry friends by their side. Cassie would be back with them soon, they were confident.
Meanwhile, In the heart of the pack hospital, on Rival River land, Jason anxiously keeps a watchful eye over his comrades from the confines of his own hospital bed. As the highest-ranking conscious member of the pack, he skillfully persuaded the nurses and the doctor who had witnessed the event to keep their silence regarding the incident, at least for the time being. Now, all he could do was fervently pray for the swift awakening of Jack, Dave, and Daisy, for their rescue mission to save his beloved Luna awaited their return.
Finally, after what seemed like an unimaginable stretch of time, a subtle stirring begins to ripple through their slumbering forms, as if they were emerging from a profound and enchanting dream. Witnessing this glorious sight, Jason urgently summons the doctor, who promptly appears, her face awash with palpable relief upon seeing her Alpha and Beta finally awaken from their deep slumber..
Jason -
Thank fụck for that! I exclaim to myself, relieved to see them finally awake and upon hearing the doctor assure us that everything seems fine. But seriously, what the hell just happened?
Suddenly, a voice I don't recognize chimes in, "Well, let's get them on their way to our Luna, and then I'll fill you in on all the details."
As I watch my friends in the hospital room, it's as if they can read each other's minds. They move in perfect sync, rising from their beds and heading towards the exit. Jack shoots me a quick nod, Dave runs his hand through his hair and pats my shin reassuringly, while Daisy offers a small smile and says, "Don't worry, we'll bring her back." Before I can even respond, they vanish into thin air.
The doctor has released me from the hospital now with strict instructions to rest, my first stop will be the kitchen, hospital food leaves much to be desired even here, then I head to my room and settle on the couch with some mindless reality show on in the background in an attempt to distract me while I await news from the others. My wolf Kent has explained why I am hearing him in my head and he explained that we can now talk to each other with our minds, and that Jack, Dave, Daisy, Cassie and I can all communicate using a mindlink as well, which is beyond bizarre to consider, apparently the others are too far at the moment though so they wouldn't have heard me if I tried. According to Kent, Jack, Dave, Daisy and Cassie also have this ability to talk with their wolves and through mindlink, which explains how they all seemed to be silently communicating when they awoke.
Jack -
This gift from the goddess is perfect, like a dream come true, ideal for the task at hand, being able to talk to Dave and Daisy meant we were able to leave for our mission without the additional warriors, it means less lives are at risk, however there is a downside, my wolf is driving me crazy, he won't stop pining for Cassie, it is like a constant whine in my ear.
Duke, seriously, shut up and let me concentrate, the sooner we can get moving, the sooner we get her back.
I can't, I need her, I want her now! His whining persists. Like I said, driving me insane.
Jack, seriously shut him up, come on we gotta move, Lucy says he needs you to be firm with him. Daisy's voice rings in my head.
I'm trying, he won't quit, Duke, seriously man shut up or get out of my head, I need to focus or we will never get her back.
Blessed silence follows my words and I breathe a sigh of relief, finally some peace and we can get on our way.
Guys, are your wolves whimpering?
Nah, just yours but to be fair it is your mate that is missing, can't say I blame him for being worried. Dave's voice floats through my head.
Same, Lucy is awesome, she chatters a fair bit, but not surprising really, she is my wolf… Daisy adds.
We don't talk anymore after that, we focus on traversing the space between our pack and Twin Lakes. The land is rough, plenty of foliage but with our wolf speed the distance sails beneath our feet and before too long we are within a mile of their border where we pause to gather our breath and to go over our plan one more time while scoping out the area.
