Chapter 12
Amelia’s POV
As I sat facing Damien in his study I tried hard to control myself from pouring out my anger on him. I was not over the kiss he placed on my hand, my inside burned in anger as I felt the touch of his lips against my hand. I was imagining how I was going to deal with him once I get the opportunity before his voice interrupted my thoughts.
“Thank you for all you have been doing for my father, I appreciate your efforts so far,” he said softly as he stared at me like he was going to tear my veil off my face and devoid me with his eyes.
He had always been promiscuous, but I was blinded by love to see it back then when we were together. I stared at him in disgust at his promiscuity, I couldn't believe he had just kissed my hand despite not knowing who I was. He hasn't seen my face yet and he kissed me.
I felt more disgusted as I remembered the touch of his lips on my skin, but I controlled my anger—I had to keep my calm because I didn't want anything to ruin my plan to take revenge on them.
“No one was able to help him recover until you came to his rescue, your pack must be so lucky to have a powerful healer like you,” he continued as he smiled sheepishly at me.
Everything about him disgusted me and irritated me, it was as though my lack of response to all he said fueled him more to continue his gibberish talk. I knew him very well, I was sure he would try any means to get close to me. I stretched my hand to grab a book from a shelf and flipped through the pages absentmindedly, I needed a distraction from his talks.
“There is this feeling I can't explain whenever you are with me, you look so familiar. I feel like I have seen those beautiful eyes somewhere before.” He pressed further as he moved closer and fixed his eyes on me, and scammed my whole body. I acted as though my attention was on the book I was holding.
“I have never stepped my foot on this pack till your mother requested for my help to heal your father.” I replied quickly as I cascaded my hand over the book and my eyes glued to the book. “I have never seen or come across any of your faces before I came into this pack, we are just strangers.” I convinced him as I dropped the book I had picked back on the shelf.
He heaved a sigh of relief as he stood up from the chair he sat on, it was as though he was beginning to suspect I looked like the Amelia he and Freya murdered which made him restless. We stared at each other in silence for a while before I broke the silence with a question.
“Who is this person you have a feeling I might be or look like? Who is she to you? I asked with a black expression on my face.
“Never mind, maybe I am just overthinking,” he said as he let out a laugh. Can we be friends, my lady?” he requested with a sly grin on his face.
I knew he desperately wanted to get close to me, I didn't give him an answer but I just looked at him as if the answer to his request was written in my eyes.
“I promise you, miss. I just want us to be friends. There will be nothing more than that, it will be a great privilege for me to have a powerful healer like you as a friend. Please accept my request, my lady.” He cajoled with a smile on his face.
“Okay. Just friends you said, nothing more to just being friends” I pointed out.
“Yes.” he nodded with a wide smile on his face. He looked excited that I accepted to be his friend.
I knew Kaiden wouldn’t be happy once he learnt that I agreed to be friends with Damien, but I had to accept his friend request in order to accomplish my goals. I didn't want him to suspect me, I had to agree with him for the sake of my revenge.
“So, now that we are friends, we are not supposed to hide things from each other. I would love to know everything about you; your name and why you have decided to hide your beauty behind that veil.” he stated with an even wider grin on his face.
“My name is Maya,” I lied my facial expression blank.
“Oh. Wow!” he exclaimed. “You have got a beautiful name for someone as beautiful as you are,” he flattered, his voice calm and gentle as he nodded his head.
“Thank you,” I managed to say between gritted teeth and a smile that didn't come from my heart.
“Do you mind telling me the reason you have refused to take off your veil despite all the pestering from Freya?” He questioned.
“I don't want to talk about that,” I replied sharply. “I would love to take my leave now if you have nothing else to say” I added with a firm tone.
Just as I ended my last statement, I heard a loud creaking sound of the door as it opened. Myself and Damien quickly turned our gaze at the same time to the door as I wondered who opened the door without knocking. Freya barged inside the room like a loose door, I knew she was the only person who could barge into the study room like that.
Her eyes burned like fire, I was sure she was infuriated at seeing me and Damien together alone in his study. I was happy she met us that way, she had to feel the pain I felt when she and Damien betrayed me. ‘This is just the beginning, Freya’ I thought to myself as I smiled within my veil. She gave me a sharp stare, her eyes glared at me like she wanted to tear me apart with her piercing stare.
“What are you two doing here alone? What the hell are you doing with her in your study?!” She shouted as she shifted her gaze from me to Kaiden, her tone laced with pain and anger.
“What's wrong with that?! Damien replied, raising his voice. “Did you meet us doing anything bad? We were just having a conversation, Freya.” he added as he reduced his voice.
I watched as the drama between the two unfold in silence without uttering a word, the fact that I didn't bother to explain anything to Freya annoyed her the most.
“Of all places in this palace, you decided to choose your study as the right spot for your dirty conversation with this stranger?! She countered, as she raised her hand in the air in anger.
“What are you insinuating right now?!” Damien asked in annoyance as he stood up from his chair and walked towards Freya. “You have to respect Miss Maya, you have no right to disrespect her or address her as a stranger.” Damien proclaimed, his voice laced with authority. “You have to excuse us now, we were having an important conversation before you came in,” Damien commanded.
Freya was shocked and annoyed at Damien’s statement.
“Wow!” she exclaimed in disbelief. “You know her name already?! This is getting interesting.” she said as she clasped her hand over her mouth in shock.
