Chapter 11

Amelia’s POV.

As we left Magdalene and the others, I noticed a change in Kaiden’s countenance. My lips upturned in a frown as I tried to figure out what had upset him.

“What?” He asked with a frown firmly in place. A lock of blonde hair had fallen over his furrowed brows and I reached for it, gently putting it back in place. His expression softened a bit, but he still had worry swirling in his blue orbs.

“Your face.” I replied with an equally measured frown, trying to imitate his expression in hopes it would lighten the mood but his face remained stoic. My shoulders slumped in disappointment.

“Why do you seem so upset?” I asked, since he’d refuse to acknowledge my innuendo. He looked away then and I watched the battle reflecting off his eyes. He sighed deeply, sparing me a glance before looking straight ahead again.

“I’m just a little worried.” He confessed but I still didn’t understand.

“What exactly are you worried about? Do you think being here is too dangerous?” I asked with furrowed brows, scratching my scalp like that would reveal his thoughts to me. He shook his head and I could swear that his cheeks coloured pink but I shut my mouth, not wanting to sway him away from whatever he had to say.

“It’s just…. I think you should beware of Damien. I don’t like how he was looking at you earlier.” He stated, almost looking like he’d stepped on acid. I smiled internally. Kaiden was obviously jealous and that alone released a swarm of butterflies in my stomach.

As for Damien, this was exactly what I wanted. His eyes had began lingering on me more than they should and the thought soothed some of the ache of their hurt. The thought of what Freya would go through, watching her so called man drool over another woman delighted me more than I cared to admit.

‘I’ll make sure they both suffer but for now, I want to watch Freya sweat like a pig.’ I thought to myself. She would surely go insane watching Damien helplessly trudge over me and I would enjoy every minute of it.

Maybe then, she would realize what a promiscuous loser Damien was. She would have to go through the pain I went through. Although I knew it would be nowhere as deep as the trauma I’d been through, I swore to do my best to make it as painful as possible for her. I would take her pride and grind it into dust. When I’m done with her, she’d be nothing but a shell of herself.

“I don’t want you to worry about that Kaiden. Trust me, I can handle these people just fine.” I reassured him but his eyebrows were still creased with worry. There was only so much I could say though. I didn’t want to involve Kaiden in all of my plans, especially one of this nature.

My feelngs for Kaiden had grown immeasurably from the day I met him to this point. I had grown so attached to him and I feared that the more I let him in, the stronger my attachment to him would become.

Being here in the Bloodmoon pack, where I’d been brutally betrayed by the on I’d loved the most, opened a fresh wound in my heart. I had serious reservations about baring my heart out to someone again, especially so soon.

Although, I didn’t think Kaiden to be anything like Damien, I really couldn’t say for sure. I thought Damien was an angel up until the point he betrayed me. I don’t know what I’d do if something like that were to repeat itself. For now, all I wanted to do was focus on my plans for revenge. I couldn’t let my feelings for Kaiden distract me. I was here for a reason and I had no intention of wavering in my plans for revenge.

Just then, I saw a maid approaching, a young woman that seemed to be in her mid twenties. She had dirtly blonde hair and her grey uniform had  a brownish stain at the hem.

“My lord, my lady.” She greeted Kaiden and I, prostrating to show her respect and we both nodded in acknowledgement.

“My Lady, Alpha Damien requests to meet with you in his study room. Please follow me and I’ll take you there.” She said, her voice sounding like chalk on a board. It was cracked and uncomfortable to listen to but the news she bore delighted me.

I couldn’t say the same for Kaiden. His lips had formed a hard line and he threw murderous stares her way. If looks could kill, she would be six feet under. She squirmed uncomfortably under his gaze and I couldn’t help but feel sorry for her.

“I promise, I’ll be careful.” I whispered to him, and with conflicted eyes, he nodded. He let out a devastated sigh and I loosened our intertwined hands, following the maid to Damien’s study. I glanced at him one more time before we left, catching an almost haunted look in his ocean blue eyes.

The maid stopped a few feet away from a huge mahogany door painted a light brown. The door gleamed as though it was routinely shined every few hours and I could almost make out my own reflection.

“You can go in my lady. He’s waiting for you.” She said to me, bowing before excusing herself. I took a deep breath and with squared shoulders, pushed the door open.

Damien’s annoyingly dazzling smile greeted me first. Like a little kid, he scrambled away from his fur covered chair, almost running into his huge mahogany desk in the process.

“Oh my lady, what a pleasure to have you here. Please come in.” he said, the annoying grin still plastered on his face. I thanked the moon goddess for my veil as I stepped in, a scowl pressed firmly on my lips.

He closed the door behind me and when I thought the worst thing was that stupid smile on his face, he reached for my hand suddenly and placed a kiss on the back of it.

My eyes shone in surprise and as his lips made contact with my skin, I nearly retched right there and then. I got the urge to spit at him, outraged at the sheer audacity of this man. Vile words played at the tip of my tongue but I held myself back.

“Thank you.” I appraised through gritted teeth, forcing a fake smile on my lips for exaggerated effect even though he couldn’t see my lips. He probably guessed I was smiling from the creases around my eyes because he returned it with an even wider grin. Who would’ve thought his mouth could spread that far.

He drew a chair back for me and I thanked him with a nod, settling onto the wooden chair opposite his desk. As he made his way round to his own seat, goose bumps peppered my skin and I stared at the spot his lips had touched with disgust. His whole persona disgusted me but there was nothing I could do about it. For now, I had to feign pleasantries for the sake of my revenge.
