Chapter 75: The Eclipse Tightens

The Eclipse Stone pulsed in Alex’s palm.

Cold. Heavy.

Like holding a piece of a dying star.

Its veins glimmered faintly with silver light.

But beneath that glow…

Darkness stirred.

His scar throbbed in response.

The bond between the moon and the stone was undeniable.

But the shadow of Nyx lingered beneath the surface.

Watching. Waiting.

His wolf bristled.

The stone was a key.

To salvation.

Or destruction.

Cain's voice broke the tense silence.

"Tell me that thing isn’t going to explode."

Alex shook his head.

"No. But it wants to."

Maya crouched beside him.

"Nyx?"

Alex nodded.

"It’s still connected. The stone is part of the lunar bond."

He closed his hand around the stone.

"If we can feel the moon through it… Nyx can too."

Cain’s jaw tightened.

"Great. So the enemy has a tracking device on us."

The Elder knelt beside Alex.

"Nyx will come," the Elder said softly.

"Now that we have the stone, it has no choice."

Alex’s eyes shifted toward the grove in the distance.

The moonlight reflected faintly off the oak’s branches.

Kara’s grove.

The scar on his palm flared.

The wolf stirred.

"Then we get back to the grove," Alex said.

He tucked the stone into his jacket.

"And end this."

The pack moved swiftly through the forest.

The moon followed overhead.

Its glow sharpened unnaturally.

Alex felt the moon’s energy crackling through the bond.

Thin. Brittle.

The moon was straining to hold its connection.

To hold Nyx back.

His scar pulsed harder with each passing mile.

The Eclipse Stone vibrated faintly beneath his jacket.

Cain kept glancing upward as they ran.

"Does it seem... off to anyone else?"

Maya nodded grimly.

"The moonlight feels... sharp."

The Elder ran alongside them.

"The moon is resisting Nyx’s pull," the Elder said.

"But it’s weakening."

The wolf within Alex snarled.

Time was running out.

The grove came into view just before midnight.

The silver oak glowed faintly, its leaves rustling softly.

But its branches drooped.

Its bark appeared duller.

Maya slowed as they approached.

"It looks... sick."

The Elder's eyes darkened.

"The moon's core is straining to protect the bond."

The scar on Alex's palm burned hot.

The grove called to him.

Kara’s presence was gone, but her sacrifice lived within the roots.

She was part of the moon’s tether now.

And if that tether broke…

The moon would fall.

Alex stepped toward the tree.

The Eclipse Stone pulsed as he neared it.

The silver veins along the stone aligned with the tree’s faint glow.

The wolf inside him stirred.

This was where the stone belonged.

This was where the battle would end.

The pack gathered at the base of the tree.

The Elder spread his scrolls on the ground.

The lunar runes glimmered faintly on the parchment.

"The Lunar Aegis is a defensive barrier," the Elder explained.

"It will block Nyx’s influence and solidify the moon’s connection to the earth."

Maya crossed her arms.

"What's the catch?"

The Elder sighed.

"To create the shield, we must fuse the Eclipse Stone with the grove’s core."

Cain frowned.

"Didn’t Kara already do that when she sacrificed herself?"

The Elder shook his head.

"Kara became the guardian, yes. But the core remains exposed."

He gestured toward Alex.

"Alex carries the scar from that connection. The stone must be placed into the heart of the tree… by him."

Alex's scar flared in response.

"And if I do?"

The Elder hesitated.

"If it works, the bond will solidify. The moon will be safe."

"And if it doesn’t?" Alex pressed.

The Elder's eyes fell to the ground.

"The stone’s energy will consume you."

The pack fell silent.

Cain swore softly.

Maya shook her head.

"No," she said firmly.

"There has to be another way."

The Elder rubbed his temples.

"There isn’t."

Alex’s heart pounded.

The wolf within him bristled.

Sacrifice.

The moon always demanded sacrifice.

Kara had given her soul for the bond.

Now, it demanded his.

His gaze shifted toward the tree.

Kara’s tree.

The scar on his palm burned hotter.

"How long do we have?" Alex asked.

The Elder placed his hand on the bark.

The wood vibrated faintly beneath his fingers.

"The eclipse reaches its apex tomorrow night," the Elder said softly.

"That’s when Nyx will make its final move."

Alex exhaled.

"Then we don’t wait for tomorrow."

Cain’s eyes widened.

"You want to do it now?"

Alex's jaw tightened.

"Yes."

His gaze lifted toward the moon.

The glow was already dimming at the edges.

The shadows were already gathering.

Nyx was coming.

And the pack didn't have time to wait.

The Elder carved lunar sigils around the tree.

Maya paced anxiously.

Cain hovered nearby, gripping his axe.

The moonlight above the grove flickered.

The scar on Alex’s palm burned hotter than ever.

The Eclipse Stone vibrated against his chest.

The Elder straightened.

"It's ready," the Elder said.

Alex stepped toward the tree.

The bark shifted where his palm met it.

The scar aligned with the grooves naturally.

The stone in his other hand pulsed.

It responded to the grove's energy.

The Elder raised his staff.

"Moon above, earth below seal the bond, let it flow."

The ground trembled.

The tree groaned.

The roots coiled and split.

A hollow space opened in the center of the trunk.

A core of soft, glowing lunar energy pulsed within.

Alex's scar blazed.

The wolf within him roared in protest.

The moon didn’t just want the stone.

It wanted him too.

The Elder’s voice shook.

"Alpha of Crescent Fang. Bearer of the Scar. Place the stone and bind the light."

Alex's breath caught.

His vision blurred.

The shadows stirred at the edge of the grove.

Nyx was watching.

Waiting.

Cain placed a hand on Alex’s shoulder.

"Hey," Cain said softly.

"You don’t have to do this alone."

Alex swallowed hard.

"I do," he whispered.

He stepped forward.

The stone's surface grew colder with every step.

The core’s light flared as he raised it.

His scar burned like fire.

His wolf howled in agony.

He pressed the stone into the core.

The bark shifted around his arm, pulling him forward.

The stone fused into the wood with a low, resonant hum.

The moonlight above intensified.

The scar on his palm glowed white-hot.

The energy rushed through his body.

His veins lit with silver fire.

The bond anchored itself through him.

The pack shielded their eyes from the blinding light.

Alex’s body convulsed as the moon's power surged through him.

The scar cracked.

His breath caught.

The grove trembled.

The moonlight poured through the branches like liquid silver.

The Eclipse Stone fused completely into the trunk.

The scar on Alex's palm exploded with pain.

The tree’s energy wrapped around him.

The lunar bond settled.

The moonlight stabilized.

The grove went still.

The moon above shone steadily once more.

Alex collapsed to the ground.

Cain knelt beside him.

"Alex!"

Maya grabbed his wrist.

"His pulse is weak."

The Elder touched Alex’s forehead.

His skin was cold.

But his chest still rose and fell.

"He’s alive," the Elder said.

Maya exhaled shakily.

"But just barely."

The scar on Alex’s palm was gone.

In its place was a faint crescent moon etched into his skin.

The Elder's eyes widened.

"He became the conduit," the Elder whispered.

Cain’s brow furrowed.

"Is that... bad?"

The Elder shook his head.

"It’s unprecedented."

Maya stood.

"Nyx is still out there."

The Elder’s eyes darkened.

"Yes. But now... it will have to break the stone to reach the moon."

Cain hoisted Alex over his shoulder.

"And we won’t let that happen."

The moonlight bathed the grove in calm silver.

The stone glimmered softly within the trunk.

But in the distance, beyond the city…

A faint, violet-tinged eclipse began to creep across the moon’s surface.

Nyx wasn’t done.

It was only regrouping.

The battle had been won.

But the war for the moon…

Had just entered its final stage.
