Chapter 543 He Is Willing to Die for Her
Chapter 543 He Is Willing to Die for Her
Shattered glass flew everywhere as Daniel shielded Olivia, taking the brunt of the impact.
The airbags deployed, and Olivia's eyelashes fluttered as she fought back her fear and opened her eyes.
Given the severity of the crash, she should have been hurt, but she felt no pain. When she looked around, she saw that Daniel had taken most of the glass shards for her.
Tears streamed down Olivia's face, whether from fear or sorrow, she couldn't tell.
She saw blood trickling from Daniel's forehead, indicating a serious injury.
"Daniel, are you okay?"
As soon as she said it, Olivia realized how pointless the question was. Daniel looked like he was on the brink of death.
Her hand trembled as she reached for Daniel's back, only to find it covered in glass shards.
His injuries were likely worse than she had imagined.
Gunfire erupted outside the car, but fortunately, their vehicle had been specially modified to be more durable than a regular car.
Daniel's hand remained firmly by her side, and despite the pain, he managed a weak smile. "Don't worry, I'm not dead yet."
Olivia gently touched his cheek, her tears falling. "Why are you so foolish? We're not even together anymore. Why did you save me?"
Olivia's frail body wouldn't have withstood the glass shards; the consequences could have been dire.
With her cancer and the injuries combined, Olivia might not have survived.
Daniel didn't regret his choice. Despite his weakness, he tried to comfort her. "Seeing you cry for me before I die makes it all worth it."
They had loved and fought, and Olivia had once doubted his feelings. But now, his sincerity was undeniable.
She knew Daniel loved her deeply.
But what about her feelings for Daniel?
Olivia's mind was in turmoil. After facing such danger, she realized she wasn't as indifferent as she thought. She still had feelings for Daniel.
Reinforcements arrived outside, and Joseph's voice called out. Olivia breathed a sigh of relief. "Daniel, hang in there. Joseph is here. We're going to make it."
Daniel remained in his position, blood pooling around them. Olivia was too scared to move, seeing Daniel covered in blood and severely injured.
Daniel raised his hand and gently wiped away her tears. "You always said I should pay for the lives lost, Olivia. It's not that I don't want to die; I just can't bear to leave you. But now, it looks like your wish might come true."
Olivia had hated him, but he couldn't die now!
"Stay strong. The store next door has been broken into. We can hide there for a while."
The gunfire outside continued, and Daniel's car door was completely mangled. Olivia tried her door and found it could still open.
Taking advantage of the chaos, she quietly opened the door and helped Daniel to the corner of the store, her hands shaking as she dialed 911.
"An ambulance is on the way, Daniel. Don't die on me."
Olivia cradled Daniel's neck, unable to let him lean against the wall because of the glass shards in his back.
"Olivia, do you love me?"
At a time like this, he was still thinking about love? Shouldn't surviving be the priority?
Olivia didn't want to answer, but she remembered what the doctor had told her.
In a patient's treatment, the will to live was crucial.
If a patient had the determination to survive, there was still hope. Otherwise, even early-stage cancer could worsen.
If lying could save him, what harm could it do?
Olivia gritted her teeth. "I still love you."
Hearing this, Daniel closed his eyes and used his last bit of strength to hold her hand. "To have you by my side in my final moments makes me happy."
"No, I want you to live. Do you hear me? If you die, I'll hate you forever."
Olivia cried as she said this, but Daniel didn't respond.
He lay there with his eyes closed, his breathing faint.
The chaos outside was quickly subdued, and Joseph found the car empty. He led his team into the convenience store.
"Olivia, did you call the ambulance?"
Olivia nodded frantically. She wasn't seriously injured compared to Daniel.
She followed Joseph out and got into the ambulance.
The paramedics worked urgently on Daniel, their faces grim. "The patient's condition is critical. His family should prepare for the worst."
Olivia's mind went blank. She couldn't accept it. Daniel had been talking to her just moments ago, and now he lay there, pale and lifeless.
She remained silent the entire way to the hospital.
Soon, Wesley and others arrived. Seeing Olivia, Wesley approached. "Mr. Wilson has survived many dangers. He'll make it through this, too."
"It's dangerous for you to stay here. I'll have someone take you and Ms. Donovan to the island."
Olivia wanted to leave, but her first reaction was to refuse. "I don't want to go. He got hurt because of me. I need to stay with him."
Joseph, tasked with ensuring Olivia's safety, looked troubled. "The hospital might not be safe either. We'll stay here. You should go."
Olivia refused to leave. "I'm not going. Wesley, take the kids and Lila to the island. I'll stay here."
After saying this, Olivia glanced at the emergency room.
The light was on, and Daniel had been taken inside. His fate was uncertain.
If he hadn't protected her, Daniel wouldn't be so severely injured.
Olivia stood stubbornly at the emergency room door, trembling as she thought of Daniel's pale face before he was taken in. He loved her more than she had imagined.
His love was enough to risk his life.
Wesley had left, and Joseph approached her. "Mr. Wilson often faces such situations. The blood bank has reserves, but this time, it's critical. I'm worried the reserves won't be enough."
Olivia didn't understand. "Even if this hospital's blood supply is insufficient, we can get more from other hospitals. He'll be fine!"
"It's not that simple. Don't you know? Mr. Wilson has a rare blood type, different from everyone else's."
