Chapter 542 Car Accident

Chapter 542 Car Accident

The tension between them was thick enough to cut with a knife.

Daniel dropped his gaze. "If I wanted to take the kid, I could. You know what I really want."

What did he want? Love? A family?

Whatever it was, Olivia couldn't give it to him.

At this moment, a waiter came over with a tray. "Ma'am, your order's ready."

Olivia didn't want to keep talking. She picked up her fork and focused on her food.

Once this meal was over, she wouldn't have to see Daniel again.

Across from her, Daniel watched her cheeks puff up as she ate, trying to suppress his possessive feelings. He looked at her seriously. "Olivia, why do you trust Tobias, who has no real connection to you, more than you trust me?"

Olivia paused mid-bite. She had never really thought about it.

When Tobias first showed up, he had been her protector.

Plus, Tobias had adopted two kids and raised them well. Olivia couldn't find a reason to doubt him.

"No one does something for nothing. Think about it. Why would he adopt two kids and raise them? Does he have some hidden agenda?"

Daniel's expression was sincere. "I've known you were alive for a while, but I never did anything to hurt you. I hope you can put aside your feelings about me and think carefully about your future."

Daniel's words made her question Tobias's motives.

Daniel was right. Taking in those two kids was a losing deal for Tobias.

Because of it, he got kicked out of the assassin organization and had to live on the run. Could someone really be that selfless?

Thinking about Tobias wanting to leave with her, Olivia felt uncertain for the first time.

"His motives aren't pure, and your thoughts might not be trustworthy either."

Olivia didn't trust anyone right now. Daniel, eating his food, looked a bit helpless. "I'm the father of the children. No matter what happens, I would never harm them. I'd even trade my life for theirs if I had to."

Looking at Daniel's face, Olivia could tell he wasn't lying.

After a moment of thought, Olivia agreed to Daniel's suggestion. "I can stay on the island for now, but I have one condition. I want to take Lila with me."

This involved Alvin, but Daniel agreed without hesitation. "Fine. Whoever you want to take, I'll help you."

After the deal was made, they didn't speak again and finished their meal in silence.

Back in the car, Olivia's tone was firm. "You promised me. Now take me to the hospital. I need to see Winston alive."

She really cared about Winston.

Daniel wasn't sure if he should be happy, but this time, he didn't argue with Olivia's request and drove her to the hospital.

Walking down the hospital corridor, Olivia felt a bit anxious.

"Ms. Smith, you're finally here. Winston has been asking for you whenever he's conscious."

Joel stood at the entrance of the ICU and hurried over when he saw Olivia.

Olivia knew Winston was hurt but didn't expect it to be this serious.

She walked up to the ICU door and peered through the glass.

There were several beds inside, and Olivia's eyes zeroed in on one of them.

The person lying there was thin, matching Winston's height and skin tone.

It was hard to see clearly from outside, so Olivia looked away. "How serious is it? When can he be discharged?"

"It's tough to say. I'm not a doctor, but he'll need to stay for a while."

Joel's answer was vague. Confirming that Winston was alive, Olivia felt a bit relieved. "Are you sure his condition is this bad just from drinking?"

Joel wiped the sweat from his forehead. "Ms. Smith, if you don't believe me, I can get his medical records."

Olivia asked casually, not wanting Winston to think she had other feelings, so she declined.

"No need. I have other things to handle. Take good care of him."

After leaving, Olivia transferred money to Joel's account with a note: [Thank you. This is your payment.]

Ignoring Joel's srange look, Olivia walked out of the hospital.

Outside, Daniel stood by the car, waiting for her.

"Do you care about that guy so much?"

"I told you, our relationship isn't what you think."

Olivia snorted, clearly not wanting to continue the topic.

The conversation was over. Daniel wanted to take her back to Lila and tentatively asked, "Can I see the two kids?"

Without hesitation, Olivia firmly refused. "I told you, you don't deserve it."

Daniel knew she had made up her mind and didn't ask again.

He couldn't help but feel sad. If none of this had happened, he, Olivia, and their three children could have been living happily together instead of being forced apart.

But it was too late now. Daniel could only comfort himself that this matter couldn't be rushed and needed to be approached gradually.

Olivia didn't speak again, closing her eyes to rest in the car.

Halfway through the drive, Daniel noticed a truck in the adjacent lane suddenly veer off course, heading straight for them.

Something was definitely wrong with that truck!

Recalling previous accidents, Daniel quickly turned the steering wheel to avoid the truck.

The car's sudden movement woke Olivia. She opened her eyes to see the truck's front end.

Memories flooded back, and Olivia's eyes filled with fear. But she knew that being scared wouldn't help. She could only pray that nothing would happen.

God didn't hear her prayers. Despite Daniel's skilled driving, swerving to create some distance, the surrounding buildings and storefronts left no room to escape.

The truck crashed into them, shattering the car's windshield. At the last moment, Daniel hit the brakes, unbuckled his seatbelt, and shielded Olivia with his body.

The Bentley crashed into a storefront.

The New Year's decorations on the store's windows were destroyed.

The impact was massive. Olivia instinctively covered her head and closed her eyes.

In such a critical moment, all plans were useless. They could only wait for fate to decide.
