Chapter 24
“Hey Kate,” Diane said with a phone held to her left ear. “You won’t be able to guess what just happened.”
“Someone sounds super excited,” Kate said. “Why don’t you tell Mommy what’s got you so hyped.”
“How many times have you gone somewhere fully dressed and ended back home not fully dressed?” Diane asked.
“Why don’t you tell me what it is,” Kate said.
Diane could sense that Kate was about to grasp what she was talking about, but she wanted her to talk about it anyway.
Diane collided with someone on the road. She was excited about what she was talking about that she barely paid attention to where she was going.
“Watch it!” The stranger said.
“Sorry,” Diane replied.
“What?” Kate asked, thinking Diane was talking to her.
“Not you,” Diane said. “Give me a minute.”
Diane saw an alley beside the road she was walking and entered into it. Few people walked through the alley, and she felt more comfortable there. She moved closer to a wall, placed her back and the back of her left leg on it.
“Are you still there?” Diane asked.
“I am,” Kate replied. “Now, spill it!”
Diane giggled.
“I went to work today, and I am going home without my undies,” Diane said.
“What?” Kate asked, sounding very excited. “Who’s the lucky guy?”
“Are you still with Pete?” Diane asked.
“No. He left not too long ago,” Kate said.
“Nice. Anyway, I took Paul to a restaurant on his first day back at work and well, shit happened.”
“Oh yeah, Pete told me about that. He didn’t seem happy about the return of his brother,” Kate said.
“Of course not. You saw the way they were at the party. Friend would not be a term to use,” Diane said.
“I can’t believe you pulled that off girl,” Kate said. “And what about the plan?”
“Let’s say Samson fell right into my lap,” Diane said. “I’ve been thinking about how to go about this for months and voila, it happened!”
“So, what you’re saying is that we’re on?” Kate asked.
“We’re so fucking on,” Diane said.
“Why don’t you come to my place tonight,” Kate said. “We shouldn’t talk about this on the phone, and I’ll always be prepared for you,” Kate said with a seductive tone.
“You know I have to go to work tomorrow. I also think I’ll end up getting more by then. We can both do all that on Saturday,” Diane said.
Kate sighed.
“Okay, Saturday but call me tomorrow,” Kate said.
“I will,” Diane replied. “By the way, still nothing from Pete?”
“You landed the important brother,” Kate said. “The patient dog I guess.”
“We didn’t even know he was going to come back,” Diane said.
“Yeah,” Kate replied.
“Love you, talk tomorrow,” Diane said.
“Love you too, bitch,” Kate replied.
