Chapter 70 Quarrel

At six o’clock in the afternoon, Lydia returned home exhausted.

Lambert and Wythe were engrossed in playing the video game “Rapid Racer” together, each with a controller in hand, thoroughly enjoying themselves.

Lydia slumped onto the couch, unwilling to move, and casually tossed the court summons onto the coffee

table.

Lambert and Wythe exchanged glances, then set down their controllers. “What’s wrong?” Lambert asked.

“Take a look!” Lydia replied.

Lambert picked up the summons and quickly scanned through it, feeling a storm brewing inside.

Though equally angered by the situation, he glanced at Lydia’s despondent expression and nonchalantly

remarked, “It’s just a court summons.”

Lydia suddenly sat up straight, her beautiful eyes filled with distress. “Just a court summons? This is slander! They’re just turning the tables on me!”

Furrowing his brow slightly, Lambert placed the summons back on the table and reached out to grasp her

shoulder. “Don’t dwell on it too much…”

With a sharp slap, Lydia brushed his hand off her shoulder, her eyes blazing with anger.

After suppressing her frustration all day, it seemed to have found an outlet. “What do you mean? They’ve

taken me to court! How can I not dwell on it? Don’t you understand that if I lose this case, my career is

over? Do you have any idea?”

Lambert hesitated for a moment, then his expression hardened.

“I might not understand these legal matters, but I do know that bringing work–related unhappiness home isn’t good for Wythe’s upbringing.”

Lydia widened her eyes, staring at Lambert for a moment before taking a step back, muttering to herself, I knew it. I knew you only stayed with me for our son. You don’t care about me or my career. Maybe in

your eyes, it’s not even worth a second thought, is it? Do you look down on me?”

Lydia’s tone was resolute, her eyes already brimming with tears.

She felt deeply wounded, full of doubts about herself and this man, lacking in confidence.

Meanwhile, Lambert was somewhat speechless.

He couldn’t fathom the workings of this woman’s mind.

They were just discussing work–related matters, how did it turn into her feeling belittled?

Moreover, his intention in saying what he did was merely to avoid escalating the situation and to help Lydia relax a bit, but why couldn’t she see that?

Seeing Lambert’s silence, Lydia became even more convinced of her suspicions.

Various negative emotions surged within her, causing her heart to plummet.

Lambert stepped forward and pulled her, “Lydia, calm down!”

“Why should I listen to you? Who are you to me? A man who doesn’t even care about my career isn’t worthy of staying in my home! Get out!” Lydia retorted angrily.

Lambert was also taken aback by her outburst.

He never knew Lydia could be so unreasonable.

In his eyes, she had always been strong and brave, even if occasionally vulnerable, she wouldn’t confuse right and wrong or lash out like this!

And now, she was telling him to leave?

“Fine! I’m leaving!”

Lambert stormed out in anger, not even looking back when Wythe tried to stop him.

As Lydia watched Lambert leave, tears finally streamed down her face.

All the anxiety and pressure she had been suppressing came rushing out.

Wythe walked over to Lydia, placing a comforting hand on her.

“Darling, he actually left! He doesn’t care about me anymore! I’ve lost everything, I have nothing left!”

Overwhelmed by sorrow, Lydia couldn’t move.

She had only spoken in anger; she didn’t believe Lambert, as smart as he was, couldn’t see through that.

But he had left without hesitation.

Perhaps all his previous understanding and compromises were just indulging her.

Maybe in his eyes, she was just a pet to amuse when he was in a good mood and ignore when he wasn’t.

Feeling even more heartbroken, Lydia held her son tightly. Yes, no matter what, she still had him.

Meanwhile, Lambert hadn’t gone far.

Standing alone by the flowerbed outside the apartment, he lit a cigarette and looked up at the brightly lit

window.

He felt a sense of inexplicable frustration.

Since they met, he had been accommodating to Lydia in every way.

But he never imagined that in her eyes, he had become someone who didn’t care about her career.

If he didn’t care, why would he neglect his own business to help her choose models, or accumulate debts to friends on her behalf?

Everything he did seemed worthless in her eyes.

Taking a deep drag from his cigarette, Lambert let the smoke obscure his deep thoughts, hiding his

emotions even more.

Perhaps they both needed some time to cool off.

Crushing the cigarette butt and casually tossing it into a nearby trash can, Lambert glanced once more at Lydia’s window before turning and walking away.

For several days, Lambert didn’t reach out to Lydia, and Lydia didn’t either.

She was swamped with work at the company, leaving her with no time to contact Lambert.

Although Lydia later realized she had spoken rashly in the heat of the moment, she also acknowledged that there were underlying issues between her and Lambert.

His continued absence left her feeling deeply disappointed.

Wythe observed all this with growing concern.

If things continued like this, he worried whether his parents could reconcile,

In his desperation, Wythe decided to take matters into his own hands and paid a visit to Lambert’s

company,

Having been there once before, Wythe attracted attention from the staff, and the receptionist let him in, even pressing the elevator button for the top floor.

Upon reaching the top, Lambert was already waiting at the elevator doors, ready to scoop up his son and bring him back to his office.

“Hey there, why did you come today? Have you had lunch?” Lambert inquired.

Wythe nodded, noticing the ashtray in the office filled with cigarette butts, furrowing his brow. It seemed

like his dad hadn’t been doing well these past few days.

Normally, Lambert didn’t smoke much, especially since they lived together, considering Lydia’s and his

own health.

Wythe sighed inwardly, sometimes he just couldn’t understand adults.

Despite caring for each other, why couldn’t they compromise?

Mom was stubborn, and her pride made it hard for her to back down easily.

So, he decided to give Dad a chance instead.

Wythe narrowed his eyes. “Dad, you haven’t called me in the past few days. Do you not like me anymore?”

Lambert pinched Wythe’s nose gently, pondering how to explain that he refrained from calling because

he was afraid he’d end up asking about Lydia.

Lambert briefly regretted storming out that day; perhaps if he had stayed and comforted Lydia, things

wouldn’t be so strained now.

His momentary disappointment vanished quickly, but Wythe noticed it.

Wythe tilted his head, “Well then, would you like to go home with me today? Mom didn’t mean it that day. If you just lower your head a little and coax her, she won’t be mad anymore!”

The smile on Lambert’s face stiffened. He ruffled Wythe’s hair, “Son, I know what I’m doing.”

Wythe looked a bit frustrated, “Is apologizing that difficult, Dad?”

Lambert’s expression darkened, “This is between adults; don’t get involved. Just be a happy kid!”

Wythe was annoyed by Lambert’s tone. He quickly climbed off his lap, his face red with anger. “But Mom isn’t happy. How can I be happy? I hate you, Dad!”

As he stormed out of the office, Wythe left Lambert sitting on the sofa, lost in thought. When Lambert finally snapped out of it and wanted to go after Wythe, he realized his son was already gone.

As Wythe walked out of Universal Conglomerate, his anger grew, but returning home felt stifling.

He then had a sudden idea.

If Dad didn’t want to make Mom happy, there was someone else who surely would!

Wythe shook his head determinedly, swiftly making his way to his NO2 father figure.

In his mind, he thought, “Hmph! Dad, if you don’t cherish this opportunity, don’t think Mom can’t find someone else! There’s always a backup plan!”
