Chapter 25
Logan

Megan sits across from me. She looks beautiful as always. Her hair is pinned back from her face to flow down her back in natural curls. She has light makeup on, and her lips have a slight shine to them. Her outfit today is a knitted dark grey dress with buttons going down the middle holding it together. It has long sleeves and hugs her in all the right places, showing her figure. A silver necklace hangs around her neck with a tree of life pendant laying just above her cleavage.

When we arrived home last night, she went straight to her room without a word. Then this morning, she wasn’t up until after I left. I honestly thought she’d changed her mind, but then I received a text from her asking what time was best for me. I’d cleared two hours out of my schedule for her as soon as she sent me that text.

“I thought you had changed your mind,” I say as she looks through the menu. I’d picked a small restaurant that’s close to work and the club for us both.

“Why would I change my mind?” she asks and glances at me. A waitress comes over before I can answer.

“Are you ready to order?” the dark-haired waitress asks as she loads something up on her iPad. She glances up from the screen, and her eyes widen as she looks at me. Her attention slowly turns to Megan before coming back to me. This fame I have is strange; if people recognise me, they tend to change their attitude towards me and the people I am with. Women go one of two ways.

“Yes, I’ll have the superfood salad,” Megan says, folding her menu and looking at the waitress, who is still looking at me.

“Sir, what would you like?” The waitress asks me, completely ignoring what Megan had said. I sigh and look at Megan. This is what happens when people see someone with money.

“Maybe we should go somewhere else,” I suggest to her and notice the shock on the waitress’s face.

“No, it’s ok,” Megan says with a small smile. I watch her look around the restaurant and then flag down another waiter.

“Is everything ok here, Miss?” he asks.

“Are you the manager?” she asks. He nods at her. “Can we have a different waitress? I don’t want to be ignored the whole time I’m here and have her drooling all over my date,” she says politely. The waitress tries to defend herself, but the Manager takes one look at me, realises who I am and holds his hand up to stop the waitress from going any further.

“Of course, Miss. Is there anything I can get you while you wait for the waiter to come over?” he asks her.

“Some water with ice and lemon would be nice,” she says.

“Yes, of course,” he says and walks away while giving the waitress an angry look and telling her to follow him.

That was unexpected. The last time I went to a restaurant with Megan she was scared to order her own food, never mind call someone over to us. I smile at how much she’s grown and changed over the years. Her confidence is amazing. I love it.

“What?” she asks. I frown at her. “You’re smiling at me,”

“I was just thinking,”

“About?” she asks.

“Why would you change your mind?” I changed the subject back to what we were talking about before. “I just thought maybe you were second-guessing your decision to give me another chance,”

“Do I have reason to second-guess?” she asks.

“No,” I confidently say.

“I just think we should take things slow,” she pauses as our waiter arrives with the water for us both.

“Are you both ready to order?” he asks.

“I’ll have the superfood salad,” Megan says and the waiter nods as he presses a few things on the tablet he’s holding. He then looks at me.

“The lobster linguine, please.”

“Yes, sir, any drinks?”

“No, I’m ok,” I nod at Megan.

“I’m fine,” she says and gives the waiter a polite smile. The waiter nods and tells us our food won’t be long.

“What do you mean by slow?” I ask once the waiter is out of earshot. She tilts her head a little in thought and then smiles.

“Let us start new, we’re both different from five years ago. So let’s start fresh,” she suggests.

“Ok,” I like the idea. We’re both getting to know each other again.

“That means the past stays in the past and we go on as two people who don’t have a history,” she explains.

“Deal,” I state.

“So, Mr Peters, this is our first date,” she states. “I’ve not been here before,”

“I often have food ordered to the office from here.”

“Oh, what do you do?” she asks with a playful smile. I shake my head as I smile at her.

“Business,” I say, playing her at her own game. “I tend to invest in small businesses of every kind. Cosmetics seem to be the most profitable at the moment. I’m a shareholder in many big brands, and I’m working in the hospitality industry, like hotels and resorts. I just bought a couple of islands. I intend to make two or three of them into holiday destinations that are self-sufficient and eco-friendly to marine life.

“Wow,” she says with her eyebrows raised.

“I just recently donated to a charity for the conservation of turtles in Cape Verde. Hopefully, they’ll be able to close off a part of the beach for sea turtles to lay their eggs without human interference.”

“I read in an article that you do a lot for the environment,” she states.

“I do and I don’t. I try to have my businesses be clean when it comes to the use of energy.”

“The building you built has one side covered in solar panels,” she states.

“Yes,”

“And a lot of the building materials are recycled materials,” she adds.

“Yes,” I pause and take a sip of my water. “It’s little changes, I could do better,” I state.

“So could everyone else,” she says and then smiles.

“What about you? What do you want to do?” I ask.

Our date goes by pretty fast. The whole time we tell each other little things about ourselves that neither of us knew before. It was refreshing and I must say fun.

I walk with Megan into Masked Goddess. Elena called me just before Megan and I were to part ways. She asked me if I could meet with her to discuss the health and safety new terms and conditions we have to follow.

“Do you want to set up another date now or do you want me to call you later?” I ask.

“Call me,” she tells me and leans up onto her tiptoes to kiss my cheek.

“Definitely,” I say.
“No waiting,” she tells me.
“I’m far from patient,” I tell her, and she chuckles in response as she walks off to the changing rooms.
“Could have fooled me,” she calls back to me, making me smirk.
