Chapter262
“You keeping them is useless,” she said. “Those encrypted messages that can’t be copied and that encryption system, only I could use them easily. It was hard for you guys to handle, and it didn’t have much to do with the Humphrey Group. If you wanted to set up a financial investment department, you could totally build one that’s completely under your control.”
“I know,” he said.
He never questioned it.
He just wanted to leave some time and space so he could explain things to her properly.
“So.” Stephanie’s mood shifted again, “You just wanted to gross me out?”
She said, “You knew very well that after the lawsuit, I had a really good chance of getting it. Are you just trying to stall me?”
Maxwell didn’t answer right away, just looked at her.
He knew what she said was true, she could take it away.
He really was dragging his feet.
It was him who didn’t want to let go.
He didn’t look at that agreement carefully that day. If he had known she might have planned it all along, he wouldn’t have signed it at all.
The hallway was silent. Finally, Maxwell spoke.

“Steph,” he called her name.
Stephanie didn’t respond.
“Did you plan to leave from the very beginning?” Maxwell asked.
Stephanie didn’t respond, but her attitude was already clear.
“I know, what happened with Roxanne made you really sad,” he said, his voice sad, “but I had my reasons…”
“Hard feelings?” Stephanie laughed. She shot a fierce look at Maxwell.
Seven years went by, Groena’s kid, and the kid she didn’t have when she fell down the stairs–could all of this just be covered up by his so- called “difficulties“?
She gripped tightly with her right hand and said word by word, “Am I that cheap in your eyes?”
Maxwell didn’t know how to explain, just looked at her.
“Let me ask you one last time, are you giving me the Shelton family’s stuff or not?” she asked, her eyes red.
But he still stayed silent.
“Okay,” she said, “let’s do it your way and go to court.”
There was no need to stay anymore, Stephanie turned around and was about to leave.
“Steph.” Maxwell’s voice came from behind, but she didn’t stop.
“I knew, what you wanted was just a home.”
“You decorated our home really well.”

“I liked having you around, and I got used to you being here, waiting for Roxanne…”
“Later, we could get along well, couldn’t we?”
“We still had our home, our kids, that piece of Tanzanite…”
The hallway in the hospital was lit with cold, white lights.
He obviously knew everything, he was clear about it all, he knew she just wanted a home.
A home that had a lover and kids.
He was the one who ruined all this himself!
Hate surged up. Stephanie couldn’t hold it in anymore and walked back with big steps.
She raised her right hand and slapped him hard.
“Pop!”
A slap landed hard on his face.
He didn’t avoid her, just looked at her sadly.
“Pop!”
“Pop!”
“Pop!”
Stephanie’s eyes were red, and she clenched her teeth. She slapped him hard across the face again and again.

She hated the way he looked, hated his threats, hated her own weakness, and hated that she could only be stalled by him.
The crisp sound of a slap echoed through the whole hallway.
She didn’t know how many times she had hit him. His face was already badly swollen, blood was running from the corner of his mouth, and after her hand touched it and hit his face, it was all red.
