Chapter 194
The adult couple hugged and danced, and the little girl played and laughed on the side.
The bright red dance dress kept flying, and he could never forget the smile on the little girl’s face.
“Don’t run! You’ll fall easily!” a voice called out.
“Oops!” The little girl of the house’s new owner ran over at some point.
Ran too fast and suddenly fell to the ground, was pouting and tearing
Maxwell crouched down, took out a handkerchief, and wiped the little girl’s tears, like he wanted to wipe away someone else’s tears.
“Don’t cry,” he said. then opened his big hand. held the little girl’s hand, and helped her up.
“Thank you, thank you, Mr. Humphrey.” The person inside ran out and thanked him right away.
Everyone who lived around here knew who Maxwell was.
Maxwell waved his hand and said it didn’t matter.
He looked down at the little girl again.
The little girl wasn’t crying anymore, just looked at him a bit scared.
The corners of his mouth suddenly lifted, Maxwell smiled.
Then, he stood up straight and turned to leave.
Chap 194
There were a few moments just now when he actually saw that little girl as Stephanie.
That year, Stephanie watched her father die right in front of her and couldn’t do anything about it.
That was the Stephanie who hadn’t looked at him with cold eyes yet.
Maxwell let out a long sigh and sat back in the car.
Where else did you want to go?
He didn’t know. so he just kept driving.
The car drove really far, and finally, it reached a deserted corner.
Near here, there was a huge building.
Haraville Prison.
The car stopped, and Maxwell knew who he wanted to see.
After finishing all the paperwork, Maxwell sat down and looked at the man across from him.
The man saw him, gave a cold laugh first, then picked up the phone.
Maxwell also picked up the mic.
“Busy Mr. Humphrey, how come you had time to see me?” the man said sarcastically.
But Maxwell just looked at the man in front of him.
Alfonso Murphy, Stephanie’s ex–stepdad.
“What did Stephanie want you to come over and say to me?” Alfonso asked angrily.
Chapter194
“It wasn’t her, it was me.” Maxwell finally spoke.
“Not her“?” Alfonso was a bit surprised. “You got something to say to me?”
“When you put me in here back then, you said people like me were trash and didn’t even deserve to talk to you.”
Maxwell just kept looking at Alfonso.
He was wearing prison clothes. In these years inside, he got a bit thinner than before. He looked like he was doing so–so.
Seeing Maxwell stay quiet, Alfonso seemed to notice something was off too.
“If you don’t say it, I will.” Alfonso thought for a moment and said, “I’ve been in here for a few years. How are you and that girl Stephanie?”
Maxwell didn’t answer.
“Did you make any f
friends?”
“That’s not true, back then you liked her, didn’t you? She was crazy in love with you too, hahaha.”
He went on, “Married yet?”
Maxwell nodded. but then he stopped.
Alfonso saw this and shook his head, going tsk tsk tsk.
“Stephanie actually married into a rich family. I knew you guys were close, and I also knew that before Monica was with me, Stephanie lived like a rich girl too. But wasn’t the Humphrey family really powerful? Could your family accept her?”
Chapter194
Maxwell nodded again.
Alfonso got all fired up.
“Then she was awesome, she managed to handle everyone, how did she do that?”
It seemed like he hadn’t talked to outsiders for a long time, and Alfonso looked really excited and curious.
Maybe it was because of sincerity, and also effort.
Although at first they got married because of Grandpa’s illness, later on, both Grandpa and Grandma valued her a lot.
“Forget it if you don’t want to talk. By the way, why did you even come over? Just to chat with me?” Alfonso said.
Seemed like he thought of something, he asked, “Did something happen to that girl Stephanie?”
Maxwell lowered his eyes a little.
“We’re getting a divorce.” Maxwell said.
Even though it was fake and they got back together half a year later, he still felt sad.
“Divorce?” Alfonso was really shocked. “Your family didn’t like her?”
“Haha, she was really out of luck. She loved you to the bone, and now she ended up abandoned. I bet she cried her eyes out!”
“Awesome!”
Alfonso was still laughing.
Time was up, Maxwell put his stuff down and left.
Chapter194
He took one last look at Alfonso, who was laughing.
It wasn’t his family who didn’t like Stephanie, it was him who brought up divorce to Stephanie.
“Let’s go.” Someone urged.
