Chapter 60
“Rhiannon, what are you doing here?” her cousin Raven asked immediately after she saw Rhiannon.
It wasn’t that she wasn’t happy but she felt that it was quite a surprise since it had been years seen the latter visited them.
Rhiannon who was busy reading one of the books she inherited from her mother lifted her head and found three pairs of eyes at her.
“Uncle, Cousins,” she greeted them politely shocking them.
“You are calling us cousins? Does that mean that you approve of us being your cousins?” the youngest one, Ruby asked as she stared at Rhiannon without blinking.
“You guys have always been my family. It’s just that I was blinded in the past and treated the snake as an enemy. Cousins, I hope you can forgive me for my past actions,” Rhiannon said as she looked.
The two ladies stared at Rhiannon as they didn’t believe that they would one day hear what they were hearing. They glanced at each other and then at Rhiannon. Seeing the sincerity in her eyes, they glanced at each other before running towards Rhiannon.
“Aaah. How can we not forgive you, huh? You are our family of course we forgive,” Raven said with a smile as she hugged her.
“It's good to have another big sister who will be spoiling me rotten!” Ruby said with a grin on her face causing everyone in the room to laugh loudly.
At a given point, her aunt Melda had also walked into the room, however, she didn’t interrupt the girls as she knew that they had to deal with some things by themselves.
Melda’s husband saw her and walked towards her. He stood next to her.
“What’s happening? Why is Rhiannon here?” he asked curiously as he also knew how much Rhiannon hated staying with them.
“She will be staying here for a few days. In the meantime, I will be accompanying her to the company and helping her familiarize herself with it,” Melda said with a smile on her face.
Her husband was stunned and glanced at Rhiannon.
“I hope that she and the girls will get along well as they will need to be working together in the company,” he said.
Without waiting for his wife’s answer, he walked towards the girls.
“Rhiannon, you are welcome, and always remember that this is your home,” he said as he patted Rhiannon’s head.
“Thank you, Uncle Joel,” Rhiannon said with a smile, and her eyes had tears.
She was trying very hard to prevent them from falling and looking vulnerable in front of the family.
Although they treated her as family, she didn’t want to bother them with her problems. She wanted to stay strong and make them happy.
“Okay okay. Enough with all of you. You just came from the company and are so sweaty! Why don’t you guys go and freshen up then come down here for dinner?” Melda asked with a smile as she looked at the girls.
She knew that they might stay with Rhiannon the whole day and night without allowing the latter to do her things.
“But moom..” the girls complained while Rhiannon looked at the dotingly and helplessly.
She was the oldest but also the one who had always behaved like a child.
Remembering her past actions, she felt ashamed.
“What about I go upstairs with you then we come back after you are done?” Rhiannon said before her aunt got a chance to say anything.
Everyone looked at her as if they had not expected her to intervene.
“Are you sure?” Ruby asked as her big eyes stared at Rhiannon expectantly while holding her right arm.
Rhiannon nodded her head as she patted the latter’s head.
“Okay! Let’s go,” the young lady said as she dragged Rhiannon upstairs she was afraid that if she delayed any minute longer, Rhiannon might change her decision.
“Let’s go to your room. We will freshen up there as we show you your room as I don’t think that mom has done so,” Raven said as she ran in front of them to lead them the way.
Rhiannon was stunned when she heard her words.
“My room?” Rhiannon asked in disbelief as she pointed to herself.
“Yes, you! Mom said that one day, you will come to live with us so we have to make you a room. Ruby and I decorated them,” Raven answered her.
“Yes. Every time we go out shopping we also buy you some clothes so that when you come back, you may not find the closet empty,” Ruby added as she nodded her head vigorously.
Rhiannon felt sour in her heart as she had never pretended that good. She regretted her past actions even more and vowed that from today, she would make sure that the girls were happy. She would spoil them the way an older sister spoils her sister.
With these in her mind, she nodded her head. “Okay. I can’t wait to see what the room looks like.”
She took a step forward. When the girls realized what was happening, they felt like screaming but they didn’t dare to as they were afraid of making Rhiannon angry.
Their rooms were on the second floor. When the room was opened, Rhiannon was stunned. It was just like how her bedroom looked when her mother was still alive. Seeing this, Rhiannon was unable to keep the tears as she found herself crying.
She was reminded of her mother. Most things she had in the room at that time were what she used to see on TV and in the malls when she accompanied her mother in shopping. If she said that they were beautiful and wanted them in her room, her mother would buy and rearrange her room.
When the girls saw Rhiannon crying, they panicked as they wondered why she was crying.
“Rhiannon, why are you crying?” Raven asked.
“Have I done something to make you cry?” Ruby said as she bit her lower lip as she prevented herself from crying.
“Don’t you like the room?” Raven said causing Ruby to remember that the latter had indeed started crying after seeing the room.
She wiped the tears in her eyes with the palm on her hands then looked at Rhiannon with a confused look.
“But mom said that you loved everything in this room. That before Aunty died, your room used to look like this,” she said.
“Yes. We thought that we could try to make the room the same as the previous one to make you feel at home. Rhiannon, if you don’t like the room, we can redecorate it once again tomorrow,” Raven said while her sister nodded her head agreeing with her.
“Yes, can you please stop crying?” Ruby said with some worry in her tone.
Rhiannon was back to reality when she had their words. She glanced at them one at a time before hugging them both.
“I don’t like the room,” she said as she released them causing them to panic.
“Rhiannon, we are…”
“I love it! I love it very much. Thank you,” she said as she hugged them once more.
The girls froze when they heard her words then after she hugged them, they recalled what she had just said and sighed in relief.
“Yay! Come let’s show you the closet,” Ruby said as she dragged the latter in.
They kept going back and forth for more than an hour.
“Okay, you guys should freshen up now,” Rhiannon said when she got time out of their enthusiasm.
The two ladies halted their actions and stared at them while pouting causing Rhiannon to chuckle as she found them cute.
“I will be waiting for both of you here,” she said as she patted their heads and walked towards the bed to lie down.
“You should start,” Raven said making the two start arguing about who would start as they wanted to stay with Rhiannon.
Looking at them fighting, Rhiannon massaged her temple as she couldn’t stand their energy.
“Ruby, why don’t you start? She will be in the bathroom when you are staying with me as we wait for her,” Rhiannon said causing the young lady to pout as she stommed her feet.
“Why not her?” she asked as she pointed at her sister.
“I want to ask her something about the company,” Rhiannon said in a serious tone.
Hearing her answer, Ruby knew that even if she caused a scene, nothing would change thus she nodded her head and ran towards the washroom causing Rhiannon to shake her head.
She knew that the young lady would clean herself up very fast and they might even not be able to speak a lot. Nonetheless, she felt that it was better than none.
“Rhiannon, what do you want to discuss about the company?” Raven asked in a serious tone.
The jovial lady was gone replaced by a serious mature woman stunning Rhiannon as she didn’t expect that she would be able to change personalities so quickly. She breathed in deeply before patting the space next to her for the atter to sit.
“I want to tell you that the company is mainly involved in the perfumery?” Rhiannon asked as the company explored a different industry from the Clark’s Company.
“Yes. Mom said that Aunty had founded a lot of companies in different industries in hopes that those companies with rise to the top in the future. The company our family rans is involved with perfumery. Currently, we rank top three in the perfumery industry in the country. Although it's best, we want to be at the top,” Raven said seriously.
As she talked about the company, her eyes shone brightly. Rhiannon of course saw this and smiled.
“You look like you love the company so much,” Rhiannon said causing Raven to nod her head vigorously.
“Yes, I have always accompanied Mom to the laboratory since I was a kid. From it, I started getting interested in perfumery. I made my first perfume when I was eight. It is still one of the best-selling perfumes,” Raven said.
Rhiannon was shocked. She never thought that when she was living a carefree life and causing trouble, the girl had already taken her first step in the industry.
“That’s impressive,” she said as she admired the latter even more but Raven shook her head.
“If you think that’s impressive then you are wrong. Ruby made her first perfume when she was five. She more recognized than I am,” Raven said.
Rhiannon took a deep breath as she felt that she couldn’t breathe well.
“Impressive right? Mother had always told us since we were kids that although we love perfumery, the company wasn’t ours but yours. She kept saying a lot of things about Aunty making us admire and wish we could do something for her. We vowed that we will work hard to make her proud, Work hard to make her dreams of the company get to the top,” Raven said as she seemed lost.
“One day, when I was seven and Ryby was four, she got thirsty in the middle of the night and woke me up. I helped her and went downstairs to get water. On our way back, we heard Mom talking on the phone saying that Aunty’s life was in danger and that there was an organization chasing after her. At that time, we didn’t understand as Aunty had already died but what she said next is always on our mind,” Raven said expressionless.
Although the latter had done a great job of masking her emotions, Rhiannon was still able to see them.
Sadness, despair, fear. All running in the running eyes made Rhiannon frown as she didn’t understand what could make her be like that.
“What did you hear?” Rhiannon asked.
“She said that if one day those organizations find out that she had a daughter, they will come after you. If Mom and the others, who were managing Aunty’s companies wouldn’t have made it to the top so as they could be able to protect you when that time comes, your life would be in danger. We might also lose you.”
