Chapter 75 The truth within.
Isla’s POV.
His words still rang in my head like they were just said.
“If she hadn’t tried to compete with me…”
What did he meant by that?
My body kept from one end of the bed to the other as I try to process his words.
“Was there something I was missing?” I murmured.
My mother wasn’t the kind of person who would want to compete with someone, not even her husband.
She had loved him so dearly and never mistreated him.
“Compete,” I kept repeating as the words tasted flat in my mouth.
The door opened in my pull, There he was, Dante.
“You’re home early,” he said.
My legs stretched to the other side of the bed.
“How was the meeting with your father?”
“It was a brief one, he didn’t say much, just gave a hint.”
His legs moved, closing the distance between us.
“You look pale.”
A smirk flashed my face as I sat up, brushing a strand of hair on my face.
“I was thinking you’d stay out for long.”
“Not when you’re here, sweetheart.”
He sat beside me, patting my shoulder. “You should take it easy with yourself.”
A deep sigh left my lungs before I could control it.
“The earlier I take him down, the better chance of survival for my siblings.”
“Do you need my help? I could add fuel to your firewood,” he teased.
Damn, he looked so hot, my mouth widened as I watched walk out of the shower.
“You should get some clothes on,” I said, shying away.
“Hahaha,” he yelped. “Quit acting like this is your first time.”
What was he trying to do, seduce me? Hell no, I won’t fall for that.
His hands reached for my legs, pulling them closer to the edge of the bed where he was standing.
“Come here, sweetheart.”
“What do you think you’re doing?” My heart sank, voice cracking.
Silence lingered between us.
I tried to pull away, but his hands were firmer.
“What are your plans on dealing with Lucia?” He asked.
“You don’t have to worry about that,” I breathed. “There are too many ways to kill a bird.”
Morning light shined through the curtains as I wrapped my body on his.
“How did I end up sleeping?” I said, pulling away from him.
His hands pulled me back as my face touched his chest.
“Can we stay like this for a moment?”
“I have a file I’ll be sorting out…”
“Don’t worry about it. You’ll do that when we get to work.”
Staff stared as we walked in together, hand in hand.
“Lucia?” I whispered as she smiled back at me.
What was she doing here, I haven’t gone to her and yet here she was.
“You look good together,” she said.
Dante didn’t say anything, he just snorted.
“And you look good with my dad,” my words were low and sharp.
People stood, gasping, eyes on us.
“Don’t think because he chose you, you can do whatever you want…”
A wicked smile tugged at my face. “How much did he pay you to spy on me?”
Lucia moved backward, expression pale.
“You thought you hid it so well, didn’t you?”
Another gasp rippled through the room, as hands pointed at her.
“What? She’s Isla’s father's mistress?” A voice said.
“I thought she was really a pitiful person,” another voice followed.
“Don’t try to scare me with your one-sided words. You can’t just accuse me without any evidence.”
“And who says I don’t have any evidence?”
I pulled out a bundle of photos, and flung in the air.
Dante turned to her, face unreadable. “From this moment onwards, you’re banned from coming in here.”
“Marco, make sure you bankrupt her father’s company to the ground. Any company that helps them will face the same consequences.”
“Yes, Sir.”
She slowly slipped to the floor, face pale.
“This isn’t real, these pictures are fake, you can’t just…”
“Security? Take her to the station. Make sure she spends the rest of her life there.”
