Chapter 64 You can’t hide from me.
Dante’s POV.
My morning has always been a quiet one. Like that of a robot.
No time for myself. Wake up in the morning, take my bath, have breakfast and head to the office.
Come back home to the same routines. Until Isla came into my life.
She had always lightened up my day, no matter how bad it was.
My mind couldn’t get off her, she was always in my head, she was someone I can’t live without.
She was my obsession. The only woman I would go to war for, no matter how it was.
But she has been silent and distant lately and it’s killing me.
Every time I tried to speak up or ask her why she had distanced herself from me, something held me back.
The last time we had been together was after the gala.
She doesn’t even look at me, and when she does, there was this cold stare in her eyes.
Jealousy would stir in me whenever I saw her laughing or smiling with other colleagues, especially the male ones.
My heart ached with pain.
I’ve tried to figure out what and why she suddenly turned cold, but I couldn’t find any.
Even in the meeting room today, she acted weird.
She would drift away in her thoughts and when I tried to know if she was fine, she would just smile or wave her hand.
Everything in my world felt so cold and empty without her presence.
I’ve asked my assistant to look into her family, maybe her father must have orchestrated something.
But he ends up giving the same answer. “There’s nothing going on with the Bennettie.”
My lungs would flare with anger.
There was a knock on the door.
“Come in,” I said, pretending to read a file.
Thinking it would be her, but it wasn’t.
I almost lost my cool.
“What is it? You’ve been here for the fourth time today.”
“Sir, I. There’s a file that needs your signature. I forgot to add it to the other files I…”
“You’re always giving excuses. Why are you all suddenly dumb?”
“Can’t you take corrections from Isla? Must I shout all the time?”
He opened his mouth to say something. “Sir, I… the files came in just now…”
“You listen to me, this is not a school for kids. If you can’t do your jobs well, then you get the yell out of here.”
My temper has been like this lately.
Every time I tried to control it, there would be a reason to make me snap out of it.
“Get out!”
“Sorry sir, I didn’t…”
“This should be the last time you step in here today, dumb ass!”
He hurried toward the door, sweating.
I clenched my hand on the table as my lips twitched.
“Hey, you! Stop there!” I yelled standing up.
“Are the banners for the new project ready?”
He slowly turned around, hands shaking.
“Not yet sir, I… the manager is taking care of it.”
“Tell him to appear here before I close my eyes and open them.”
Isla wasn’t at her desk yet. That made it worse.
She was the only one who knew how to handle the banners production.
I tried calling her, but she wasn’t responding.
She hadn’t ignored me this way, the more I thought about it, the more my heart skipped.
There was another knock on the door.
“Come in.”
“Sir, you asked for me.”
“Are the banners for the new project ready?”
He let out a deep sigh. “No, Sir. I’m still working on them…”
“If I don’t see them before the next twenty four hours, just take your resignation letter to the HR. Is that clear!”
He hesitated for a moment.
“Is that fucking clear?”
“Yes, Sir.”
He turned to leave. I cleared my throat.
“Have you seen Isla today?”
“Yes, Sir. She’s in the meeting room.”
“Why wasn’t I informed? What meeting is going on without my presence?”
“Sir, you said we should conclude the designs needed for the Market penetration project and get back to you.”
Oh, how could I forget. I had asked them to do their research and get back to me.
“You can get to work,” I said.
After almost five hours of waiting and snapping in and out of my temper, she was finally back.
She looked so stressed out, like she hadn’t slept for days.
I had ordered lunch earlier for her.
She didn’t even look at them before pushing them aside.
Did she hate me this much? What did I do? Haven’t I been punished enough?
I whispered to myself.
My phone buzzed, it was my assistant.
“Sir, I think I found something.”
My back straightened in a hurry. Finally, I get to know the reason she had been acting weird.
“What did you find?”
“I found a surveillance of Lucia and Isla in the garden.”
“What garden?”
“The garden at the mansion. Lucia must have said something to her.”
Lucia again. Why is she always butting into my business?
I had warned her to stay away from Lucia last time.
What did she say to her?
Lucia always had a way to make me angry.
Maybe she hasn’t learnt her lesson, because if she had, she would stay far away from whatever that had to do with me.
“Did you get to hear what they talked about?”
“I didn’t, Sir.”
“You know what to do right? Get those words out of her. I don’t care whatever method you use.”
“Yes, Sir.”
“What about Isla?”
“Don’t worry about her. I’ll take care of it.”
The phone went dead.
A hot breath left my throat.
What did they really talk about? I kept asking myself.
The Isla I knew was easy to get to, unless…
No, she doesn’t know about the twin switch.
Even if she knows, that means Damian had leaked it to her.
But Damian wouldn’t do that.
I remember two nights ago, Damian and I were having a conversation about telling Isla the truth, but something had distracted us.
Like someone was listening to us.
No, that can’t be.
What if that supposed person happened to be Lucia?
