Chapter 48 You or no one else.
Dante’s POV.
I kissed her back. Not because she needed it, but because I had wanted it too.
The way she held my shirt like her life depended on it.
Neither of us wanted to let go of each other.
We kissed each other possessively as she moaned into my mouth.
Pressing ourselves into each other’s chest.
“Are you sure you want to do this?” I asked, hands on her waist.
She pulled her mouth away, her eyes flickering to mine.
She hesitated for a moment too long, then stood.
“I… I … I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it…” she shrugged.
Why was she acting strange tonight?
“You don’t have to be shy with me. It’s not like we haven’t done this before, Isla.”
I felt the vibration between her thighs, I knew her body wanted me even when she didn’t.
“Sorry. I have to go. I didn’t mean to.”
She tried to move, her feet were barely steady on the ground.
They were numb from the drink she had taken earlier.
In one swing, I lifted her to my arms.
“Let me take you inside.” I offered.
Our eyes landed on each other, but she shied away immediately.
The walk to the east wings, my quarter was a quiet one.
Servants gasped as we walked passed, but nobody dared to blurt any word.
They just stared, some cupped their mouth with their hands, while the others looked, really looked.
“Sir,” my assistant followed as I stepped through the door.
“Any information on what I asked you to do?”
I had asked him to check why Isla has been acting strange today.
She looked so sad and upset that my heart hurt. Seeing her like that always got me uneasy.
He paused, expression unstable. “Yes. I've got something, but…”
I turned to him, still carrying her in my arms. The look on my face screamed danger.
“I’m not sure you would want to hear this…”
“Why are you acting strange too? Is this some fucking romantic play to you?”
“No, sir. It might sound like some joke, but you might get pissed. If I spill it out.”
“You're not saying it would make me more pissed…”
I made my way toward the bed, and laid her down. “Say it anyway.”
“So, I made contact with our source in the Bennetties.”
“Okay, what did he say was the problem?” I hissed under my breath.
He cleared his throat, like he always did whenever he wanted to say something that might get me pissed or kill someone.
“He overheard Isla’s father telling her to…”
His words hung midair again. I grinned my teeth so hard.
“Don’t you dare cut your words again! I’m losing my patience already, Ethan.”
“He finally held his head high, “Her father urged her to get pregnant for you.”
My eyes widened, stomach knotted. The words came like a slap in my face.
My breath shallowed, I paused midair. “Just that?”
“He threatened she’d never set her eyes on her siblings if she didn’t comply.”
I gave a very deep sigh. “Some people don’t know when to stop until they see their coffin.”
“You can leave now.” I waved my hand at him.
It was just the both of us in the room now.
“Was that why she had been acting off since we got back?”
“Silly girl. Who wouldn’t want to have a baby with you.” I murmured as I brushed a strand of her hair.
I watched her sleep, mumbling words only I could hear.
Her chest rose and fell slowly.
“Mum, Mum, please… Don’t go… mum!” She clutched her hands against mine, face frightened.
“I’m here,” I whispered. “Don’t worry I’m not leaving.” I muttered.
She really looked beautiful, and I couldn’t get my eyes off her, even for a fleeting second.
“What have you been through all these years?”
Those were my last words before falling asleep beside her.
Morning came in a haste. The sunlight bathed the floor in golden brown.
I felt her hand moving through my face.
“You’re awake,” I raised my head, stretching my hands out.
“You… you slept beside me?” She asked.
“How do you feel now?”
“I’m sorry if I said or did anything to make you upset last night…”
“Why do you keep apologizing all the time, you did nothing wrong, sweetheart.” I corrrected.
“I was so troubled last night, I didn’t mean to get you involved.”
“You were a nasty one last night.” I teased.
She gasped, covering her mouth with her hands.
“I didn’t mean to… It was a mistake.”
“It didn’t look like one. My lips are swollen. They hurt so much.”
I let out a little laugh. Something I hadn’t done for years.
I’ve always kept a cold face. And people didn’t dare to approach me, that was what I had always wanted.
But with her, I just feel myself. She was the only reason I would open my teeth.
“Did I really do that to you? Damn I…”
“It’s fine. You just have to be responsible for me…” I nagged.
“What do you want from me then?” She said, voice soft, seductive.
“You’re yet to tell me why you were acting strange last night.” I pressed further.
I just wanted to know if she would talk about it or still hide it from me.
And she didn’t know I already knew about it. Nothing gets past me. As long as I want to know.
She rushed down the bed. “I… I think we have to talk about that later.”
She picked her phone, running toward the door, hands trembling.
I caught her wrist and pulled her back into my arms.
“Don’t you want to have a baby with me?”
