Chapter 40 Your touch
Isla’s POV.
“Hello, good morning… it’s nice to have you…”
“Where’s your boss… I’d like to speak with him!”
“You can talk to me, sir, my boss isn’t here yet…”
“I said I want to speak with your boss!!”
“I’ll get back to you sir, I’ll have to call him..”
I took my phone off my desk and dialed Damian’s number.
It went through in one dial… “hello, good morning.” I whispered in a cracked tone.
“Are you okay? Why do you sound pressured?”
“There’s someone making a scene here, he said he wants to see you, sir.”
“Did he say who he was?”
“I was trying to talk to him… I can’t even get him to have a conversation…” the man kept yelling.
“Where the fuck is he?”
“I’ll be there in ten minutes… just hold him off a little longer.”
“Okay…”
The line went off.
“Sir, my boss will be here in ten…”
He didn’t say anything to me. He hesitated for a moment, and then he turned to me.
“You must be Isla Bennettie,” he purred, there was a faint smirk on his face.
“Yes, sir,” I replied, expression calm. My heart was pounding so hard.
The way he said my name, the bitter expression on his face when he said it, like venom.
But I didn’t know who he was, and hadn't met him before.
“Do you know who I am?” He asked, his tone was ice now.
Other workers gathered at the door. Some muttered words, the other ones looked curious.
Why was he asking if I knew who he was? Did he know me from anywhere?
I just stood and stared at him, thinking of how to pick my words.
“Looks like you don’t even know who I am,” he murmured. “I don’t think you know anything about him…”
I still didn’t say anything, still stood still, still wondering and processing his words.
“You look pretty,” he added. “Gives him more reasons to destroy the world for you.”
Everyone outside the room gasped. All eyes were on me.
I was used to being embarrassed, but this… I wished for the ground to open and swallow me whole.
“Sir, I don’t think I understand what you’re saying…” I shot back.
He banged his hands on the table, everyone moved backward.
“If it wasn’t for helping your father, I wouldn’t have been in this mess today.”
Helping my father? What did he mean and what did it have to do with me?
“What did that have to do with me, sir.” I asked, eyes twitching.
“You don’t owe anyone an explanation,” a voice from behind answered.
Damian arrived earlier than I had expected.
“And what are you all doing at the door?” He queried. “Is this what you all are being paid for?”
He said, walking into the Meeting room. Everyone returned to their duty post.
“Why were you yelling in my company?” He questioned, making his way to a seat. “Don’t you know where mad people yell?”
“Did you just call me a mad person?” He stood up from his seat.
“If you think you are, then you are,” Damia fired back.
“Why did you bankrupt my company?”
“It was just a bankruptcy… I didn’t kill anyone.”
“Everything I’ve worked for, for years… why are you so heartless?”
Damian glanced at me, and smirked. “Do you know him?” He asked.
He scanned his face… but still didn’t recognise him.
“I don’t think I do…” I murmured.
“He’s John Romano… do you remember him now?”
The name rang a bell in my ear. “Your distant cousin who was supposed to marry my sister, Josie.”
“Right there…” he waved. “That’s the old fool right there.”
I almost burst into laughter… The way he said the old fool was funny.
But no lies, he really looked like the old fool Damian just described.
“Making you go bankrupt was just a warning and me being merciful… you know how dangerous I can be when I’m determined to get something done.”
I just stood silent between two men, bantering words.
I turned to John. “How much did you promise him?”
“For what?”
“How much did you promise him that made him sell my sister to you.”
He shook his head, his hand pressed the edge of the chair he was seated on.
“Your cheap father… he would do anything for power…” he fired. “I wished he sold you to me instead…”
Damian gave him a dead stare. “Looks like you don’t want your tongue anymore.”
“I was only telling the truth…”
“Why would you agree to marry a girl old enough to be your daughter..”
“Don’t act like I’m the first man on earth to marry an adolescent.”
Damian stood up from his seat. “I dare you to say one more word…”
He didn’t say anything… he quickly stood from his seat.
“What will it take for you to get my company back to where it was?” He pleaded.
“You don’t get to negotiate with me… since you decided to go against me, you should bear the consequences.”
He called for the security to drag him out.
The day past, as usual, I was busy with work and meetings.
The staff still murmured about what happened in the morning, but I didn’t care about it…
Josie was free from marriage, that was just the happiness I held in my heart.
By evening, the company emptied… Everyone went to their various homes and other activities.
I wasn’t done with work… I just sat there, looking at my screen.
A hand tapped me from behind and I jumped.
It was Damian… “How long have you been standing here?”
“For some moments… Why are you working late?”
I didn’t say anything… I didn’t know what to say.
“I’m sorry about what happened this morning,” he started, voice hoarse. “I didn’t expect him to make a scene…”
“It’s fine,” I cut him off. “It didn’t matter what he did… I’m just happy my sister won’t be marrying him anymore.”
He leaned close to me, his breath brushed my neck.
His hand held my wrist, slowly… “Isla,” I froze.
“I don’t know how to say this but…” he paused.
My body trembled, my heart raced faster… “I… I… what are you doing?”
“Do you know how dangerous you’re to me?”
“I don’t understand what you’re saying…” I lied.
Deep down, I liked the way he touched me, caressed my wrist, and how his face moved on my neck… it made me feel wanted.
“You don’t know what you’re doing to me, do you?” His hand slid down my thigh.
A soft moan escaped my throat… “You have to stop…” his lips cut my words out.
“You want this too, Isla,” he said. “Don’t you?”
I tried to pull his mouth off. But he pins my hands with one of his hands.
I couldn’t move, I just sat there powerless, struggling to no avail.
“Tell me you want this, Isla. His hand slid down my thighs, moving toward my folds.
I let out another unintentional moan, gasping for air.
I tried to free my mouth, but he didn't let me.
His hand slid, finally touching my folds, teasing them.
“Fuck… You’re dripping wet…” he groaned.
I whispered in a slow voice, struggling with my legs.
He finally breaks the kiss, and lets my hands go.
“He dragged me from the chair I was sitting in. He carried me over to his office.
He sat me on the table, letting out a heavy sigh.
I couldn’t say or do anything… I just sat there obediently.
