23. Breathless words Part 1

I rolled over to the side, feeling something hard and… warm?

My eyes fluttered open and my breath caught on my throat.

“Hi. How are you feeling?”

“Callisto?” I blinked a couple of times, then swallowed hard. “Your eyes…”

I wasn’t imagining it. Callisto’s eyes were no longer empty and black. They…

I don’t know what to think.

He chuckles, his eyes alive for the first time. He didn’t look…

I sat up in a panic. “Oh my god!” I started touching him. He was no longer cold, there was warmth coming from him, he seemed so human.

Callisto holds my gaze as my hands move all over his bared chest, then stop when I feel it. A constant beat.

His heart was alive, beating steadily inside his chest.

He started to speak. “Are you that surprised?”

“Surprised? What happened? Was this because…” The truth reaches me. I tried to think, to understand, but it was becoming hard without an explanation from him.

Callisto sits up and ruffles his hair. There was a teasing smile on his face. Oh, he was enjoying this.

“You don’t need to ask anything. I will explain to you what is happening. So, breathe Yophiel,” Callisto shakes his head with laughter. “I know.”

“Start explaining then,” I urged.

Callisto carefully reaches for me, lifting me and sitting me on his lap. I impatiently waited for him to speak.

He laughed again. “Alright. Yes, I look different. Yes, I am no longer a vampire, for now, and yes, this is what happens when we drink your blood.”

I laughed in his face. “Are you serious?” I couldn’t help it because that sounded CRAZY.

“Do you remember I told you before what happens when we drink your blood?”

“Yes, you feel human?” I frowned. “But don’t you always take it? How can this be possible?”

Callisto wrapped his arms around my waist and playfully pecked my lips. “This is what happens if we drink directly from you. I become human for a moment until my thirst is back. This is who I truly am.”

I’m at a loss for words.

I reached for his face, caressed it. Callisto leans to my touch and I can’t help smiling.

“Your eyes are light brown.”

“Yes.” He smiled.

“Then how long will this last?” I asked curiously.

“Maybe one day. We don’t know since it’s the first time I have drank straight from you. By the way, thank you.”

“For what?” I tilted my head innocently.

“For not giving up on me, for trusting me although I didn’t trust myself.”

His brown eyes flicker around my neck. I instinctively reached for where he bit me and there surely were two small punctures.

His brows drew together as he looked at my neck, then at my face.

“What?” I asked.

“Are you really alright? I drank quite a bit from you. You should be sleeping.”

I felt better, well rested. And now that he mentions it, I looked around us and noticed we were in my bedroom.

“Who brought me back?”

“Adonis. They say you fell asleep while eating, so he brought you here.” Callisto's explanation draws another question.

I looked down and saw the black robe I had on. When we were on the elevator, he discarded my burnt sweater, and then back at the command center I only had my sports bra on.

“He changed me?”

“We could say, but don’t worry, Darcy did it, since you know…” he blushed.

For a long moment, only the sound of our breaths filled the room. I twisted to get down from his lap when his arms tightened around me.

“Callisto…”

“There’s something I must… I mean…”

Why was he stuttering?

I sat back down when I noticed it, the earring in his ear.

“It’s red.” My comment came out of nowhere. He frowns confusion all over his handsome face. I pointed towards his ear. “Your earring is no longer the color it used to be.”

Callisto reached for it and gave me an awkward smile. He opens his mouth and I half expect an explanation, but instead he blushes.

“This…”

“What’s the matter with you?” I commented. “You never stutter. If there’s something you need to tell me, please go ahead. You know I hate it when you guys keep me in the dark.”

He sighs and gone is the playful Callisto. Leaning on the headboard, he stared at me.

I exhale slowly. At this rate he will never explain.

“Why do you carry those pendants as earrings?” I’ve always been curious, so why not ask now?

“You know we all have one, right?” Callisto asked.

I nodded back. “Darcy has a white one, Hector’s is purple, Seth’s is green, Adonis’s is black and yours is blue, but now, it is red for some reason.”

He stared back, amusement in his eyes. “I didn’t know you were quite observant.”

“I am, so don’t underestimate me, please,” I chuckled. He nodded with a smile.

“I know last time you tried to touch it, but there’s a reason why I didn’t let you.”

Callisto hesitates for a long moment before continuing. Surely it must be serious for him, but I was dying of curiosity.

“These pendants were made by the same lab where the gene was created.” I stilled. What did he just say? “We carry it because it has your gene inside it, meaning if we take it off, we can forget who we really are.”

“In other words, this keeps you sane?” I frowned, more confused than ever.

“Yes, but not only that.”

I arched a brow.

“It’s tied to you. And as you can see, the red color means we are one. The connection between us is half completed. The blood one is for now.”

I think I am lost. Totally confused. How could something like that have so much to do with me?

I want to demand more, but I think I used the last of my brain cells because I couldn’t think any more.

“Yophiel?” Callisto leans.

“Give me a moment.”

I finally looked at him again. Complicated, that’s the word. This was getting more complicated than what I wanted.

“OK, let me see if I understand. That pendant, or earring, can’t be taken off because it keeps you sane. But it’s just an earring. How can that help you?”

He chuckles. “I know, it sounds odd. But to answer your question, this isn’t just a gem, inside it there’s your gene and our poison.”

“Poison?” I repeated.

“Yes, the one we can use to either kill you or turn you into one of us.”

The thought sends shivers down my back.

I stared at him.

“Your bites can turn me?” The question comes out breathlessly.

“No. Are you asking if we turn you, it will be our bite who does the change?” Callisto questioned. I nodded, looking everywhere but him. “Yophiel, no. Why would you think that?”

“Well, you just said your bites had poison, so you can turn me if you bite me again, right? I mean, I’m not that naïve, I understand what could happen if you attack me, I mean—”

“Yophiel!” Callisto squeezed my shoulders. I startle like a cat. “Breathe.”

Now that he mentioned it, I was panicking again. I took a couple of deep breaths and tried to calm down.

“There’s one thing you need to know, Yophiel,” Callisto said, making me look at him. “And you need to understand this, okay? If there comes a time when you want to turn, we won’t bite you.”

“Then how will you turn me into a vampire?”

“We won’t.” He shrugged. “Only if you wish to be one of us. Like I said before, we won’t force you, but if you ever decide, then there’s a diamond box in Darcy’s lab and inside it there’s a needle that has our poison. Hector’s, Darcy’s, Adonis, Seth, and mine.”

“All of your poisons?” I whispered, stunned. “In one single needle?”

“Yes, and that box can only be opened with your blood. That means only you can open it. No one else can.”

That means it's up to me if I ever decide to be one of them?

I rubbed my face, sighing. I felt dizzy with all this information. It was too much for a day.

“Hey,” Callisto grasped my chin. “Look at me Yophiel.”

I did as he asked because I really wanted to look into his human eyes. The ones that looked alive, although I did like his fathomless eyes that always made me feel things.

A lump in my throat has me gulping. He really was handsome.

“You should get some sleep, it’s still early.”

“But I’m not sleepy,” I whispered. Callisto’s eyes met mine and I swear I melted into a pool of water.

The way he was staring back ignited something in me I’ve been feeling lately when we were close. It was strong, and I couldn’t hold my emotions back. Not when I had already admitted my feelings for him.

I started to get out of his lap when Callisto moved at that moment to catch my wrists and press them over my head. It causes him to loom over me and I swear his gaze turns predatorial as it drops to my mouth before he drags it lower to my chest.

“May I?” he asked breathlessly.

I must close my eyes for a moment. When I finally opened them again, I realized he was still waiting for my permission.

I nod slowly.

With his free hand he reaches for the knot between our bodies, slowly tugging until it falls to the sides, revealing my bared body and chest.

For a moment, I started to panic. My breathing quickens as my mind starts reminding me of the way I look, all scarred from the burns.

“Beautiful,” Callisto whispered, making me open my eyes.

I took a shaky breath. “I’m not…”

Instead of letting me finish, he leans and brushes his lips against mine. Then again and again. I’m so conscious I’m naked I’m tense. He slowly let’s go of my hands and wraps an arm around me, and I relax into what’s becoming something familiar.

“You’re beautiful, never forget that.” He whispered with a light kiss on my lips.

I completely relax against him until I’m whimpering against his mouth. I slid my hands up to his bared chest, feeling him. That’s when I feel it, his fangs lightly scraping my exposed skin.

I backed away, surprised. But then I gasp as he lightly pinches my nipples through the robe with his teeth.

I arched further into his mouth, giving myself to him. He cups my breast, then sucks. I moan and his fingers clench harder onto my breast. Not hard to really hurt, but a faint ache that had me feeling good.

As we keep touching, exploring, Callisto traces the opening of my robe, tugging it to the sides until I’m completely bared.

He makes a sound of appreciation and then he pulls one nipple into his mouth. He does the same with the other before he moves, pulling the rest of my robe away, leaving me just with my lace underwear.

He leans back to meet my gaze. “Are you sure about this? The first time can be painful.”

“I’m not a virgin.” I embarrassedly forced the words out.

I’m still trying to think about what else to say as he kneels, then lowers himself and takes my lace and pussy in his mouth.

I moan as my body lightens up. He devours me. Worships me like I’m the most precious thing for him.

Oh my god. Embarrassment hits me and I don’t know what to feel or where to even look. It wasn’t my first time but I was still conscious of my looks.

He works my clit with his tongue and hand, finding the perfect touch that has me crying out in response. He keeps spearing at me with his tongue until I cry out as pleasure goes on and on.

I’m so breathless, and so out of it, I swear I’m seeing black dots. I could feel Callisto moving between my legs, pulling my underwear away, and then I froze at the feeling of his cock pressed against me.

My eyes flew open. His hard length pressed against me is the temptation anyone would want and I can’t simply resist it.

“One last time, Phi, are you sure about this?” Callisto asked, fangs grazing my inner thigh.

He is so big; I should be scared. But he was outwardly beautiful.

“Yes, please.”

He hesitated for long; I started to think he had changed his mind, but before I could say anything, he was there covering me with his body. He hitches one of my legs around his waist, dragging his cock over my pussy.

He doesn’t shove inside, instead he leans enough to meet my gaze. I suddenly panicked, but I don’t allow that to ruin the moment.

I take a shuddering breath.

Sure, I wanted this. I lifted my hips and, at the same time, he drove into me. Pleasure takes over as my fingers tangle in his hair. Pain and pleasure dance together.

“Fuck.”

He was big, too big. He feels so big I think I will cry from the stretch and pain.

I tried to accommodate him. “Don’t stop,” I ordered, breathless. He raised his head a little. “Don’t you stop and start moving.”

I revel in the fullness. I dug my fingers slowly into his shoulder as he thrust slowly. I ached but the pleasure was stronger. I started getting lost in it.

Our ragged breath meets as Callisto kisses me, consuming as ever. I claw at his shoulder as he quickens his pace.

“I need more.” I whispered between moans.

Callisto curses. I could feel him getting bigger inside me.

“Your cunt is so fucking tight,” He growled against my lips. I arch as the feeling rushes higher and the pressure starts to build.

With each thrust, the pressure escalates until something clicks in place inside my chest. A great pressure has me sobbing suddenly. Callisto is there kissing me, silencing my cries with his mouth.

I shudder as he tenses between my thighs and then he fills me with great spurts that had me moaning out his name. My orgasm hits at the same time and I come undone.

Our ragged breaths filled the room as he gave a choking laugh. He barely moves out and I barely have the strength to move or even talk. I still had a lump in my throat.

“Hey,” Callisto calls. I had my arm draped over my face, embarrassed about how I looked. “Phi, did I hurt you?”

I shake my head.

I particularly don’t feel sad. On the contrary, what I felt was a connection so deep like nothing I’ve ever felt with someone.

Callisto slowly pulls my arm away. I blinked the salty tears away that blurred my sight.

“Speak to me,” he whispered as he kissed my tears away.

“I’m fine,” I cleared my throat. “I just feel…”

“Overwhelmed?” he finishes for me.

I stared at him, his brown eyes vividly alive and full of warmth.

“I also feel it,” he smiles down at me. “I feel you Yophiel, strong and steady inside me.” He reaches for my hand and places it over his beating heart that was going one hundred miles per second.

“This is our connection, and now it’s complete.” The words came out as a muffled choke.

I blinked. Then, with my free hand I touched my nose, it was wet with… blood. In a panic, I looked back up and saw them, tears.

Callisto was crying tears of blood.

“We are one… finally.” He hid his face on my neck. Blinking, I sniffled. Wrapping my arms around him, I hugged him as I cried with him.
