Chapter 77: Disturbance
"Not working today?"
Ava nodded slightly, "Yes, I'm off today. You're here for...?"
Joshua raised his hand, and Samuel brought over Buddy. Joshua handed it to Ava, his voice low, mellow, and pleasant, "Finn's."
Ava glanced at the robot dog and of course recognized it as Finn's Buddy, so she reached out to take it, "You made a special trip to return it. Thanks for the trouble."
"On my way."
On his way?
Standing to the side, Samuel's eyebrow twitched. How come he remembered they had taken a detour through three streets to get here?
Hearing this, Ava looked a bit confused, "Isn't your company in the opposite direction from here?"
"Came over to handle some business in this area."
Samuel grumbled internally, You sure can talk nonsense. You clearly made a special trip here first thing in the morning.
Ava nodded quietly and hummed softly in acknowledgment.
"Finn said he assembled this himself?"
"Yes, Finn is quite interested in mechanical things like this." Ava smiled warmly.
"That's a good interest to develop." Joshua said, seeing Ava was about to go out, "Where are you heading?"
"Going to the hospital to handle something."
"Want a ride? It's on my way."
Everything's on his way? Ava blinked, "No need, I can go myself. Your company must be very busy. You should go take care of your work. I'll pass this along to Finn."
Joshua was about to say something, then remembered Hayden's words from last night—he should be more accommodating to her, not too forceful. Joshua cleared his throat lightly and nodded, "Okay."
Be more accommodating to Ava, yes, that's right!
"Then... I'm leaving..." Ava felt a bit uncomfortable being watched by Joshua's smiling eyes.
"Go ahead."
Ava quickly walked to her car and drove away.
Joshua has been getting stranger and stranger lately.
Ava couldn't figure it out.
The hospital hasn't been peaceful lately either.
Yesterday's bet between Ava, Barry, and Hawk spread like wildfire, eventually becoming common knowledge, and Ava became a "celebrity" at the hospital.
Whenever Ava walked around the hospital, she could hear hushed discussions.
"Isn't that Ava, the one whose director position got suspended half a day after appointment? I heard her connection is Mr. Miller."
"Their cardiothoracic surgery department has been getting more and more drama since this Ava came. First there was Mia dressing up all fancy every day, now there's someone even prettier. Cardiothoracic surgery is really lively."
"No, no, no, you really can't compare these two. In the short time Ava's been in our department, she's done at least fifty to seventy or eighty surgeries, not a single mistake, 100% success rate. And many of the patients she's treated were critical cases other doctors wouldn't dare take on."
"Right, and look at that Mia, dressing up all fancy every day. Her surgery success rate is high too, but she only takes patients without major life-threatening conditions, so of course her success rate is high. Even so, she's been complained about plenty of times. If it weren't for Mr. Palmer covering for her, could she even survive here? Dressing up like that—can beauty feed you? Look at Ava, isn't she beautiful? She looks better than Mia without even trying, beautiful with excellent medical skills, and keeps a low profile. Who's like her? Anyway, for this director promotion vote, I'm considering voting for Ava."
"But haven't you heard? Ava is also known for bad character. Didn't you see that video? Her private life is messy. That's just what we've seen—who knows how messy her private life really is."
"Right, on this point Mia is much better than her. Mia comes from a good family, is pretty and kind-hearted."
"Why do you keep comparing just these two? There are plenty of famous doctors in cardiothoracic surgery. Who knows who'll win in the end."
"Are you all that free?" A gentle voice suddenly rang out.
The doctors and nurses who were chatting enthusiastically paused and looked at Gilbert in unison. His voice, though as calm and clear as always, carried strong pressure. Several people shrank their necks and nodded in greeting, "Dr. Harvey."
Gilbert pressed his lips together without speaking.
His extraordinarily handsome face was tense, showing his displeasure.
Everyone knew Gilbert was always gentle as jade, a perfect gentleman with an excellent temper, but he carried an air of authority that made people instinctively hold their breath and quiet down.
Several people shrank their necks timidly and quickly left.
Ava, who was waiting for the elevator, helplessly put her hand to her forehead. Gilbert naturally walked over and gently greeted Ava, "Morning."
"Morning." Ava nodded politely.
"You don't need to listen to what they say. Just be yourself."
At Gilbert's words that seemed both advice and comfort, Ava turned to look at him and smiled, "Don't worry, I'm not that fragile."
Gilbert smiled and nodded, "Good."
The two walked into the elevator side by side.
"Which floor?" Gilbert asked.
"Third floor."
"About the video." Gilbert sighed lightly, "Are you okay?"
That video had been spread around and everyone knew about it. Gilbert had naturally seen it too.
Ava shook her head indifferently, "It's made up out of nothing. No need to pay attention to it."
Once the fuss died down, things would naturally calm down. She didn't need to waste energy worrying about this kind of thing.
The crowd dispersed, revealing Mia's extremely gloomy face behind them.
