Chapter 76 Joshua Is Considered Ungrateful
Hayden scratched the back of his head and immediately put on a serious, thoughtful expression. "Well... you're just so... to Ava..." So good to her...!
What should he do? He couldn't say it. It really went against his conscience.
Hayden glanced at Joshua and shifted his position. "Well..."
Joshua ground his back teeth.
Hayden tugged at his lips. "Well..."
"..."
Joshua got angry seeing him unable to get the words out for so long. Just as he was about to lose his temper, Hayden finally spoke up. "Joshua, do you think you're good to Ava?"
Look how clever he was - when he couldn't answer, he just asked back.
Joshua frowned slightly. "Can't say I'm bad."
"You've got some nerve," Hayden muttered very quietly.
"What did you say?"
"Nothing, just that I disagree." Hayden blurted it out without thinking. The moment he said it, he regretted it and quickly covered his mouth, watching Joshua's expression.
But what he said wasn't wrong either - Joshua really couldn't be considered good to Ava.
Another reason he especially liked Ava was her cooking, which was simply comparable to the Thomas family's chef. No, the Thomas family's chef couldn't even compare. Before, Ava had cooked three meals a day, 365 days a year, never missing a single meal, all to make food for Joshua. But Joshua never appreciated it, never even looked at it, and it all ended up in Hayden's stomach instead.
He practically wanted to squat at Ava's kitchen door every day with his dishes ready.
He was more than happy to help finish the food, but seeing Ava's helpless and lonely figure after being rejected by Joshua, he thought Joshua really didn't know what was good for him. If he had a wife who cooked such delicious food waiting for him to come home every day, he'd fly back from abroad.
So Hayden really couldn't understand why Joshua didn't treasure such a good wife at home, and could even completely ignore Ava.
Joshua looked at him. Since he'd already said it, Hayden had to finish even if it meant gritting his teeth. "Joshua, I think you really can't be considered good to Ava. Did you ever look at the food Ava cooked for you? She worked hard taking care of the house, waiting for you to come home at night, but you never cared. You even ignored her as a person, didn't you?"
Joshua's eyes darkened.
He knew all this.
But he really had never cared.
His gaze lowered. After a long while, he finally spoke. "Do I need to care about these things?"
He didn't marry Ava out of love. For Joshua, he only needed a competent wife, and Ava was a good choice at the time, so he chose her and married her. Joshua gave her a materially perfect life with nothing to criticize.
As long as she wanted, she could spend however she liked, just put it on Joshua's account.
Joshua thought that was enough - what he gave her was sufficient.
So he never truly cared about Ava. In his eyes, his marriage to Ava was just a transaction. He only needed to pay the equivalent amount and complete the tasks that needed completing. That was enough.
He never realized that Ava was his wife. It was like dealing with a business partner - naturally, he didn't need to care about her feelings.
But now he seemed to realize he was wrong.
The day Ava left, he felt empty inside, as if he'd lost something precious.
So he searched everywhere for her, even if it meant turning all of Silverlight City upside down to find her. At the time, he wasn't sure if his feelings about her leaving were more hate or more worry.
It should be hate, right? She left without saying goodbye, she disappeared, she disobeyed his orders, she took his child away.
How could he not hate her!
It should be worry, right? She was pregnant, took nothing with her, not even that ten billion dollar check.
A woman alone - how could he not worry?
But even now he still didn't understand what his feelings for Ava were. But he couldn't deny that right now, his heart and mind were full of Ava's image.
"Joshua, if you have feelings for Ava, then treat her well. Don't be so cold. Give in to her more. You two - one is domineering and forceful, the other won't give an inch. Someone has to take a step back. Joshua, think about Finn and Cleo, those two children Ava bore for you. No matter what, you should give in to Ava."
Hayden was rarely this serious, and he nearly moved himself to tears with his own words.
It was Saturday today. Finn and Cleo didn't have to go to school, so Ava indulgently let the two kids sleep in.
After Ava finished tidying up, she planned to go to the hospital. She had the day off and intended to send last night's medicine for analysis, then come home to spend time with the two children.
As soon as Ava opened the door, she saw Joshua standing outside.
In a crisp dark suit, tall figure, broad shoulders, powerful and noble presence.
Seeing Joshua first thing in the morning, Ava was slightly surprised at first, thinking she was seeing things.
She called out tentatively, "Joshua?"
Hearing the sound, Joshua turned around. Facing Ava's puzzled expression, he raised an eyebrow and asked coolly, "Surprised to see me?"
Ava blinked. She couldn't deny it.
"Why are you here?" she asked, her clear voice lacking its usual guardedness and distance, sounding much more pleasant.
Hearing Ava's voice, Joshua felt inexplicably cheerful.
She seemed to have the day off today, dressed more casually than usual - a loose light blue top paired with white denim shorts, revealing slender, straight legs. It was a simple, youthful look that was quite eye-catching.
Her skin was smooth, her delicate, perfect face bare of makeup. Her usually wavy long hair was tied up in a bun, looking extremely fresh and easy on the eyes.
Joshua rarely saw her dressed like this, and a flash of amazement crossed his eyes.
