Chapter 67: Love as Clear as Day
Mia tilted her head back slightly with a sweet smile and said in a gentle tone.
Ava's butterfly-like lashes trembled slightly, and a barely noticeable trace of loneliness flashed through her eyes.
So he came to the hospital because Mia was being discharged. Picking her up was just convenient since he was already getting Mia. No wonder he suddenly had time—it was all because of Mia.
Ava's cold eyes flickered slightly, and her chest tightened. Finally, she turned her head away, pushing that emotion deep down where no one could detect it.
The large black umbrella could easily cover three people, but Ava felt the air underneath was suffocating. Unable to stay any longer, she took a step back.
A few raindrops fell on her. The cold sensation made Ava shiver. Suddenly a shadow fell over her, and Ava's back bumped into a tall figure. She turned around to see Gilbert in a white shirt, holding an umbrella behind her.
Gilbert's gaze was gentle as he spoke in a warm, mild voice, "Just got off work?"
Ava nodded lightly and responded with a soft sound.
Gilbert looked at Ava for a moment, then glanced up at the man holding the black umbrella. Seeing Ava's mood, he understood. He sighed softly and held out his umbrella to Ava.
Ava paused, then instinctively took the umbrella.
The next second, her shoulders suddenly felt heavy and a bit warmer. Gilbert took the umbrella back from her hand, tilting most of it toward her side, and said slowly, "The weather's getting cold. Wearing so little—are you a child? What if you catch a cold?"
His voice was clear and gentle. It sounded like a scolding, but his tone was full of affection and helplessness.
Such obvious feelings fell into Joshua's eyes, and his expression instantly darkened. A cold aura spread around him.
Mia's eyes flickered, and she immediately smiled. Tilting her head up to look at Joshua, she said, "Joshua, I think Dr. Davis and Dr. Harvey look really good together. They're such a perfect match. Don't you think..."
Mia choked on her words as a cold glare fell on her. A chill spread through her entire body, and she didn't dare say another word.
Joshua stared at her without speaking, but his deep eyes were already filled with rage, as if someone had touched his weak spot. The coldness around him could freeze everything at any moment.
Mia stiffened badly, and her hand resting on Joshua's arm unconsciously slipped down.
Only then did the coldness in Joshua's eyes ease slightly. Sensing his master's displeasure, the sharp-witted Samuel immediately stepped forward to take the umbrella from Joshua's hand.
Joshua withdrew his gaze, and his low, cold voice addressed Mia, "I didn't know you were being discharged today."
Mia's eyes shrank sharply. Joshua's blunt exposure made her expression collapse.
After half a second of silence, Mia forced out a stiff smile. The words hovering on her lips slipped out involuntarily, "Then you came to..."
"Pick her up."
Joshua's low voice came out flatly, his tone even but full of coldness.
As Joshua spoke, his icy gaze shifted toward Ava's direction.
Ava was looking up with a faint smile, saying something to Gilbert in front of her.
The gentle expression on her face while talking was something he had never seen when she was with him since she came back.
And Gilbert in front of her, looking down with a soft smile, his eyes full of obvious affection that was impossible to ignore.
Mia had said one thing right—standing together, they really were... well-matched...
Precisely because they looked well-matched, it was especially glaring to Joshua's eyes. His eyes narrowed slightly, deep and dark, already filled with raging storms. A burning anger rampaged through his chest. He didn't want to see Ava looking well-matched with another man for even a moment.
Irritating!
So irritating!
Suddenly he walked over, his cold eyes never leaving Ava's face.
Gilbert was asking Ava about what happened at the hospital today. Just as Ava was about to answer, she suddenly felt cold as someone yanked the clothes off her and shoved them directly back into Gilbert's arms.
"..."
"..."
Then Ava's shoulders suddenly felt heavy as a black suit jacket was roughly draped over her.
Ava turned her head to see Joshua standing beside her, his gloomy expression particularly frightening.
Ava's eye twitched. Before she had a chance to speak, Joshua forcefully pulled her into his arms. She let out a startled cry, her body stumbling. Her small hands instinctively pressed against Joshua's chest to steady herself.
Ava glared at Joshua like a startled little animal, both angry and annoyed.
"What's wrong with you?"
Always pulling her around—was she his toy? After walking arm-in-arm with Mia, now he was acting crazy toward her. Ava really couldn't understand him.
"Something's wrong. Come treat me." Joshua said with a dark face, his voice sounding like he was gritting his teeth. He pulled Ava toward the car.
"..." Ava was speechless.
Gilbert didn't hesitate to grab Ava's other wrist.
Ava was being pulled by two men at the same time.
Joshua stopped and looked at Gilbert, his coldness deepening. "Let go."
Gilbert frowned, his expression icy. The tension between the two men immediately intensified. "She doesn't like you treating her this way."
"None of your business."
Gilbert's usually gentle face was unusually dark, with no intention of letting go.
Joshua's handsome face was already extremely gloomy. He clenched his fingers and pulled Ava harder.
"Want to fight?"
"If I win, will you let her go?"
The coldness around Joshua intensified.
Ava was startled and said anxiously, "Both of you let go of me."
