Chapter 53 Mia's Wrongful Accusation, Joshua's Bias
She paused for a moment, fixing her gaze squarely on Mia.
That icy, sword-like stare made Mia's heart tighten, and she couldn't help becoming alert.
"I'm really curious, what are you all talking about? How did I wrong you? What exactly did I wrong you about?"
Mia bit her lip, "Ms. Davis, why pretend you don't know?"
"Oh, 'why pretend you don't know' - nice way to brush it off." There was no way Ava would let Mia off the hook. She pulled her lips into a cold smile, "Sorry, but I really don't know. Why don't you tell me? I'm listening. I really want to know the process of how I supposedly wronged you."
Ava casually leaned back on the nearby sofa, absentmindedly smoothing her clothes. She poured herself a glass of water, looked at Mia, raised the glass slightly, and seeing that Mia still wasn't speaking, she was clearly getting impatient. "Go ahead, Ms. Wilson."
Joshua's eyes were deep as his gaze left Ava and settled on Mia.
"You bitch, how dare you..." Seeing Mia being put on the spot, Katya couldn't help standing up. She pointed at Ava, about to curse her out, when a cold, oppressive stare swept directly over her.
Katya's throat caught, as if something was choking her, and she couldn't say anything.
"Continue." Joshua's voice was cold.
Katya's whole body trembled. She looked to Ursa for help. Ursa's expression shifted, and she pulled Katya down to sit, saying, "Just let Mia speak. It's best to go through every detail so this woman Ava will be convinced."
Mia anxiously pressed her lips together. Bringing up this matter in front of Ava made her feel guilty inside. She clenched the bedsheet tighter in her hand and began speaking slowly.
Ava thought for a moment and roughly guessed what they meant. After listening to Mia finish, she couldn't help but laugh coldly - it was exactly as she had suspected.
Mia was truly Mia. Her ability to make things up had reached perfection.
Look at that wronged, unwilling, yet patient expression while telling the story - it could fool anyone.
After listening, Ava didn't speak. Her expression was calm, as if she was thinking about something.
"Don't you have anything to say?" Joshua's jaw moved slightly. His brows were knitted with coldness, his eyes looking at Ava with deep intensity, radiating an intimidating chill.
"Would you believe me if I said anything?"
Ava slowly lifted her eyes to meet Joshua's gaze. After a long moment, her thin lips parted slightly, and her cool voice asked, "If I said she's lying, that I was the one who saved Grandpa, would you believe me?"
When Ava asked this question, her eyelashes trembled slightly.
Joshua pressed his lips together, his eyes growing even deeper. After a long pause, he didn't answer.
Ava sneered coldly, "Joshua, next time don't bring up trust if you don't have absolute faith, okay?"
It hurts people!
Joshua frowned, his slightly cool voice responding, "I'll investigate."
"Investigate?"
In the end, he still didn't believe her.
A moment later, Ava lowered her eyes and smiled faintly.
Whatever. He had never believed her anyway. Between her words and Mia's words, which carried more weight - Ava knew perfectly well.
She shouldn't have held even a shred of hope, otherwise the disappointment wouldn't come crashing down so hard.
"Mom, Joshua, I already told you, Ava was the one who saved Grandpa..." Hayden had entered the hospital room at some point. Seeing everyone's different expressions, he didn't hesitate to break the stalemate.
"Hayden, you've really been fooled by this woman. Compared to her and Mia, how could Mia's medical skills be inferior to hers?" Ursa stood up and said.
"Exactly. Mia specifically studied cardiothoracic surgery abroad. Hayden, how could Mia's medical skills compare to this woman's? Don't let her fool you."
"Hayden, I know you're biased against me because of Ms. Davis. I don't blame you. I don't ask for anything else. You can say whatever you want about me, just don't slander me."
The three women, speaking one after another in perfect harmony, and crucially, Ursa was among them. Hayden's face darkened.
Ava drained the hot water from her cup in one gulp, stood up, smoothed her clothes, and smiled, "Forget it. Thank you, Hayden." At least there was still someone who chose to believe her.
But Ava understood that without evidence, they would never believe her words, so any explanation would be pointless.
Ava didn't want to waste her breath on explanations, because even if she talked until her lips were worn out, no one would believe her.
Mia narrowed her eyes. She really couldn't understand how this woman Ava could be so patient. She had wronged her like this, yet Ava could still smile so calmly, as if she didn't care, or as if she didn't take her seriously at all.
What was she thinking?
A flash of wisdom crossed Ava's eyes. She laughed lightly and said, "How about this - Grandpa's illness still needs continued treatment. Let me treat Grandpa together with you. You can all be present during the treatment, and then you'll know who's lying."
Mia's body trembled almost imperceptibly. She stared hard at Ava. What was she trying to do? Use this matter to treat Victor?
Impossible. She wouldn't allow it. That would expose her.
She couldn't let her succeed.
Mia spoke to Ava.
"Ms. Davis, Victor's illness isn't an ordinary cold. Are you sure you can handle it? I'm not questioning you, it's just that given your educational background, and not having studied medicine for so many years, can you really do it? Grandpa's heart condition can't afford any mistakes."
Mia's eyes were teary. It sounded like she was concerned and kindly advising Ava to back down, but Ava knew she just wanted to humiliate her in front of everyone and tell them all that her medical skills were inadequate.
The chain effect of these words was that Ursa was the first to stand up and oppose Ava.
Ava's brows furrowed slightly, "Since I said this, I have the ability to do it. Victor has been kind to me, so naturally I wouldn't joke around with his life."
"But Ms. Davis, are you confident?"
"Mia, you're really funny. Can't you understand plain language?"
"I'm just worried that Victor's body can't withstand your attempts. If..." Before Mia could continue, she was interrupted by a gloomy, cold voice.
"Enough."
Joshua's expression was dark, his voice suddenly cold.
"Do as she says."
What... what?
Mia looked at Joshua in disbelief. He actually agreed? For Ava's sake, could he disregard even Victor's life?
Joshua's agreement also caught Ava off guard for a moment. When she looked up at Joshua, he had already walked out of the hospital room. Ava didn't stay long either.
Ursa watched Ava, her eyes narrowing. She couldn't help but recall what Mia had said last night.
Joshua cares about Ava.
Joshua's repeated protection of Ava made her have to take this seriously.
