Chapter 41: Ava, Are You Still Not Giving Up?
Finn picked up the laptop Ava had left behind. His little hands flew across the keyboard. Earlier, when he was waiting for Ava outside the Thomas Villa, he had noticed there were surveillance cameras all over the place. As long as he could hack into the Thomas Villa's security system and pull up the footage, it would be easy. This was a piece of cake for him.
This way, he could see Ava, and more importantly, he was really worried about Ava going there alone. What if those bad people bullied her? He needed to watch. If anyone dared to bully Ava, he would make them pay.
No one was allowed to bully his mommy.
"Got it! We have the feed!" Cleo exclaimed with delight, clapping excitedly for Finn.
Finn stared at the screen with a serious look, watching the wind and rain outside, feeling even more worried about Ava.
Finn quickly jumped out of bed and ran out.
"Finn, where are you going?"
Cleo followed Finn as he ran to his lab, where various small robots he had modified were displayed.
Finn had always been gifted with machines and computers. He loved researching and modifying things. Ava naturally wanted to nurture her child's interests, so she bought Finn a bunch of mechanical tools and machines. As long as it was safe, she let him tinker with them freely.
"Buddy, go follow Mommy."
Buddy was his latest modified robot. Finn had named him Buddy. He was only about the size of an adult's fist, shaped like a puppy, small and agile, but definitely not to be underestimated.
"Yes, master." Buddy's mechanical eyes lit up, and his four little mechanical legs sprinted away at full speed.
Finn carefully controlled Buddy on the computer, linking Ava's watch location to Buddy's smart tracking system.
Cleo was completely amazed. She knew Finn was talented, but she didn't realize he was this talented. "Finn, that's incredible! So Buddy isn't just an ordinary toy dog. That's so cool!"
The two kids finished setting everything up and sat back on the bed with the laptop to watch Ava.
Meanwhile, Ava drove to the Thomas Villa. What should have been a thirty-minute drive, she cut down to half that time. The rain was pouring down and thunder roared. Ava flinched at the sound. She didn't have time to grab an umbrella and rushed into the rain carrying her medical kit.
The gate outside the Thomas Villa was locked. Ava pressed the doorbell, and a security guard holding an umbrella emerged from the darkness.
"I'm Ava. I'm here to save Victor. Mr. Thomas called me. Could you please open the gate?" Ava spoke rapidly. The heavy rain quickly soaked her through, but she didn't care. She looked at the guard with sincere, anxious eyes.
The guard looked at Ava with disdain. After hearing her out, he was clearly impatient. "Ava who? Never heard of you. Go away, go away. Do you even know what this place is? The Thomas Villa isn't somewhere just anyone can enter. Get lost."
"I..." Ava tried to say more.
Behind her, two beams of blinding headlights lit up, followed by an impatient honking.
Ava turned around. The two harsh beams of light shone directly on her face, making it impossible for her to open her eyes.
"Move it, move it! Don't block the way!" The guard eagerly opened the gate to let the car through.
The lights were so bright Ava couldn't open her eyes, but as the car drove past her, she still caught sight of Mia in the back seat.
Mia deliberately rolled down her window. Her gentle face was full of contempt as she glanced at Ava dismissively, looking completely smug.
The guard roughly shoved Ava aside. Feeling anxious and frustrated, she silently pulled out her phone to call Hayden.
At critical moments like this, Hayden never answered his phone.
"Please just let me in. Mr. Thomas really did call me. Grandpa is sick. I really am a doctor. I can save Grandpa."
"Go away, go away! If you don't leave now, I'm going to throw you out."
Barry glanced casually out the window and frowned with displeasure. "What's that girl making a fuss about?"
"Mr. Myers, you know how it is. There are plenty of women who want to marry into a big family like the Thomas family. Countless women chase after Joshua. This woman is one of them. She's been pestering Joshua. I can't believe she's still here making a scene tonight. She really has no sense."
"This girl doesn't put her energy into the right things. But she..."
"Yes, Joshua has turned her away so many times, but she just won't leave. But Mr. Myers, what is it? You seem interested in her."
"Not really. I just feel like this girl looks familiar, like I've seen her somewhere before."
Mia blinked and immediately interrupted Barry's train of thought. "Mr. Myers, she also studied medicine, but you couldn't have met her. She was expelled from university for misconduct. She only has a high school diploma. Now she got into our hospital through connections. How could you have met such a low-class doctor?"
"Expelled for misconduct? High school diploma? Got into the hospital through connections? Having someone like that in a hospital is just contaminating it." Barry shook his head, looking indignant. "She's at the same hospital as you?"
"Yes." Mia nodded.
"Then I need to talk to Joseph about this. What's he thinking these days, hiring people like that? He must be getting senile."
"It probably wasn't Mr. Miller who hired her personally. Maybe it was someone else." Mia was in an excellent mood right now. She hadn't expected this bonus. Now Ava could finally be kicked out of the hospital.
"Mr. Myers, Grandpa's condition is urgent. You should go in first. After all, she is my colleague. With such heavy rain, I can't bear to see her getting soaked out here. Let me go talk to her and get her to leave."
Barry sighed helplessly. "Alright then."
Mia got out of the car with her umbrella. Barry's car quickly drove toward the main house.
Ava looked up to see Mia walking over in high heels, holding her umbrella, swaying as she approached with a smug, victorious attitude.
"Ava, are you still not giving up?"
