Chapter 30 He Is Forcing You to Divorce
Ava was still troubled even after getting home.
She really couldn't figure out what Joshua was thinking.
Five years ago, he forced her to have an abortion. A few days ago, he chased her to the airport, demanding she tell him where the child was, and even kept her imprisoned.
All these incidents, one after another, told her that Joshua wanted to take the child away, which made her extremely afraid of him.
But today when he got Cleo's call and heard Cleo's voice, Ava suddenly caught a glimpse of surprise and anticipation in his eyes.
He even spoke with the carefulness of a first-time father.
And he actually let her leave. If Joshua hadn't let her go today, she definitely couldn't have escaped. And with Finn and Cleo, he could have easily traced them through that phone call.
But he just let her leave and didn't investigate further. Ava really couldn't understand what he was planning now.
Ava rubbed her forehead, feeling a bit tired.
"Mommy, did I cause trouble for you today?" Cleo pouted, looking at Ava apologetically.
Ava gently stroked Cleo's head and pulled Cleo into her arms to comfort her. "No, Cleo."
Ava then looked at Finn beside them and hugged him close too, saying softly, "My children, don't overthink it, okay? I'll handle this, don't worry."
"Mommy, don't worry. Cleo and I will never leave you. No one can take us away."
Ava's eyes reddened involuntarily. She kissed both children heavily on their foreheads. "My good children."
The next day at the hospital.
Ava had already pulled herself together, but unexpectedly ran into the person she least wanted to see as soon as she entered the office.
"Dr. Davis, have you had breakfast? Dr. Palmer bought breakfast for us. There's extra, and it would be a waste to throw it away. You can have some if you want." Mia said with a gentle, harmless smile.
"Mia, did you forget? Dr. Davis is so proud and arrogant, how could she want to eat what we're eating?" Lyra said while eating a sandwich, chin raised. Then she softened her voice and said sweetly to Dean beside her, "But Dr. Palmer's breakfast is really good. Thank you, Dr. Palmer."
Thora's husband Dean was sitting nearby, wearing rimless glasses, looking refined and elegant, like a perfect gentleman.
He was good at winning people over. It looked like he'd bought breakfast for everyone in the office, and there was even a portion on her desk.
Ava narrowed her eyes slightly.
Buying breakfast for everyone was just an excuse - showing off in front of Mia was the real purpose.
Suddenly Thora slammed her files on the desk with no expression on her face.
"Thora." Dean stepped forward and gently took Thora's hand. "Thora, stop being upset, okay? I know I was wrong. I shouldn't have talked back when you were criticizing and scolding me."
"What do you mean?" Thora definitely had a hair-trigger temper. Hearing Dean twist the truth, her face instantly darkened.
Ava's expression remained calm. She seemed like an outsider, but she took in every detail.
"Thora, stop it. You can say whatever you want to me at home, but don't affect others at the hospital." Dean still maintained his patient, gentle, considerate good husband act.
His words made it seem like Thora was just being unreasonable and difficult.
Sure enough, the effect was that other doctors in the office couldn't help but feel sorry for Dean.
"Dr. White, stop being upset. We're all jealous that you have such a good husband like Dr. Palmer."
"Yeah, Dr. White, talk it out nicely. There's no need to be so aggressive."
"Dr. Palmer is such a good person, Dr. White. You should cherish him."
"Exactly, don't just lose your temper all day. Dr. Palmer is so good, but you don't appreciate it." Lyra chimed in.
"I'm being aggressive?" Thora's face turned purple with anger. She furiously swept the breakfast Dean handed her onto the floor. "What are you pretending? I'm being aggressive? I'm losing my temper? You're the one forcing me to divorce, right? You're the one pointing at my nose and cursing at me, right? You're the one flattering other women, right? What kind of good husband are you pretending to be here?"
Thora was straightforward. When provoked, she started cursing directly, not caring at all about what others thought.
Mia and Lyra leisurely ate their breakfast, exchanged glances, and smiled at each other - a smile that clearly showed their scheme had succeeded.
Thora didn't notice, but Ava caught it.
"Thora, I know you have a bad temper, so I've been patient, but you can't just make false accusations like this." Dean adjusted his glasses and looked at Thora anxiously with an innocent expression.
"That's too much, Dr. White."
"Exactly, Dr. White. Dr. Palmer is recognized throughout our hospital as good-tempered and a good man. He's handsome too. What more do you want?"
Ava pressed her lips together. This Dean was really disgusting.
"Enough, what's all this noise? Dr. White, it's you again. What are you yelling about all day? Are you all just standing around watching the show? Don't you have a meeting to attend?"
The director passing by the door spoke up to scold them.
Faced with everyone's accusations, Thora stamped her feet in frustration but was speechless.
How did she end up with such a bad man? "Don't you want to div..." Divorce? Fine, let's divorce then.
"Thora." Ava stood up in time and stood beside Thora, her face calm, her tone neither warm nor cold. "Let's go to the meeting first."
Ava raised one eyebrow and patted Thora's shoulder. Thora wasn't stupid - she understood what Ava meant. Although she was furious inside, she still shut her mouth.
Ava always gave her a mysterious and calm feeling, which made Thora unconsciously trust her.
Ava pulled Thora along. As they passed by Dean, she didn't miss the flash of anger in his eyes at his failed plan.
Ava's lips curved slightly with a mocking arc. She paused, glanced at him with her phoenix eyes, and said lightly, "Dr. Palmer, criticizing your own wife in front of everyone - you really are the hospital's recognized good! Husband!"
Her voice paused slightly, and the last sentence was extremely sarcastic.
"You!" Dean could clearly hear the mockery in Ava's tone.
...
"Dr. Davis, why didn't you let me finish just now?" Thora was angry and furious, stamping her feet as she walked.
Ava looked at her calmly and said indifferently, "He's trying to make you ask for a divorce."
Dean understood Thora's personality - she was the type who got angry easily. He was counting on this, so every sentence was meant to provoke Thora, while he could pretend to be a good man tolerating his unreasonable wife.
