Chapter 29 Mia is Definitely a Genius in the Medical Field
"Okay, thanks for your hard work." Joshua responded coolly, his expression cold and distant.
"Joshua..." Seeing Joshua about to leave, Mia anxiously tried to stop him.
Joshua paused, turning his head slightly, his voice cold as he asked, "Something else?"
Mia pressed her lips together and quickly stepped forward, moving in front of Joshua. She gazed at him affectionately, "Joshua, about what Mrs. Thomas brought up at dinner today, I'd like to hear what you think. Joshua, I've been by your side for five years. All these years I've done everything I could to treat Grandpa, carefully staying by your side. Your parents and mine both hope we can settle our wedding soon. Joshua, let's get engaged, okay? You don't want to keep worrying the elders about us, right?"
Mia carefully watched Joshua's expression. Seeing his cold face with furrowed brows, Mia panicked and quickly added, "Joshua, I'm not pressuring you. I'm just anxious not getting a clear answer. Joshua..."
"Mia, I thought I made it very clear to you five years ago—I already have responsibilities I need to take care of. I won't marry you."
"What responsibilities?" Mia looked at Joshua anxiously. She wasn't willing to be rejected like this. She'd waited for him all these years; she couldn't possibly give up.
Mia anxiously grabbed Joshua's arm, "Joshua, you're just using this as an excuse to brush me off, aren't you? You... you and Ava are already divorced..."
Mia paused as a piercing cold gaze fell on her, making her feel like her throat was being choked. She immediately didn't dare breathe.
Joshua gave her a cool glance, said nothing, and walked away.
"Joshua, I won't give up." Mia clenched her fists tightly, watching Joshua's retreating figure, her trembling voice shouting loudly.
She refused to believe Joshua could be so heartless to her.
He'd said before he would marry her, which meant he had feelings for her.
As for the responsibilities he mentioned now, Mia really couldn't figure out what he was talking about.
What she needed to do now was cure Victor, making the Thomas family grateful to her. That way, everyone in the Thomas family would be on her side, and in the end, how could Joshua refuse?
With that thought, Mia pulled out the prescription she'd crumpled into a ball from her pocket. She looked at the herbs listed with disdain and sneered, "I thought it was some amazing prescription, but it's just this thing. These herbs are supposed to save Victor's life? Ridiculous."
"Mia? Still worried about Victor?" A warm voice sounded behind her.
Startled, Mia's body trembled. Unable to hide the prescription in time, she clutched it tightly in her hand—a move that didn't escape Barry's eyes.
"Mr. Myers, what brings you here?" Mia immediately put on a relaxed expression.
"Forgot? Today's the day we previously arranged with the Thomas family to examine Victor."
Mia quickly went over attentively to help Barry sit by Victor's bed. Looking at Victor, she said helplessly, "Grandpa's condition does require a lot of attention, but he's much better now."
Barry closed his eyes and examined Victor.
After a while, Barry's eyes lit up. He let out a long breath, his face showing joyful and curious smile, "Mia, could I observe your next treatment session?"
Mia's expression stiffened. Treatment session? What treatment session did she have?
It had always been Ava treating Victor, poking him with needles. She'd never even watched.
But why would Barry say this? Had he discovered something?
Mia's heart grew tense, her hands at her sides clenching tighter. "Mr. Myers, why do you ask? Is there something wrong with Victor's condition..."
Barry turned to look at Mia seriously. Seeing her nervous expression, he smiled kindly, "Mia, don't be nervous. Victor's fine—in fact, he's improved a lot, thanks to you. I just thought, Victor was originally not long for this world, but after your treatment during this time, he's improved greatly. His recovery speed has far exceeded my expectations. I'd like to see your treatment process so I can learn from it."
Mia's mouth twitched.
Greatly improved?
How on earth did that bitch Ava manage it?
At this moment, Mia could only force out a stiff smile to hide her panic. "Mr. Myers, your medical skills are excellent. How would I dare show off in front of you?"
"No, no, no, Mia, you're being modest. From what I can see now, in terms of medical skills, I might need to learn from you."
Mia felt extremely nervous inside.
What was Barry talking about?
Although he was praising her, she knew in her heart that these were Ava's achievements. The person he was really praising was Ava.
But how could Ava's medical skills possibly be better than Barry's?
Mia kept consoling herself—impossible. Ava saving the old man must have been a fluke. Her medical skills couldn't possibly be better than Barry's.
How could someone who only graduated high school have medical skills surpassing Barry's?
Seeing Mia's flustered expression, Barry was puzzled. "Mia, what's wrong? Not happy?"
Happy?
How could she possibly be happy?
It's all because of that damn Ava!
Mia's expression recovered quickly, her smile remaining. She quickly made an excuse, "Happy? Of course I'm happy to receive Mr. Myers' praise. But Mr. Myers, the process is complicated—I can't explain it in just a few words. Next time, can I show you my treatment plan instead?"
Barry didn't doubt Mia's words. Naturally, he understood that treatment processes were complex and couldn't be explained in a sentence or two. In that case, he'd wait to see her treatment plan.
"Mia, I just saw you hiding something. What was it?"
Mia's hand clutching the prescription tightened, her expression slightly surprised, but she quickly recovered. "Nothing, nothing really, just a prescription."
"A prescription? Let me see it."
"There's nothing worth seeing, Mr. Myers. I don't think this prescription is perfect enough—it still needs improvement."
"That's fine. If it's not perfect, let's make it perfect. Let me take a look and help you revise it."
Mia panicked, but since Barry had already said this, if she kept refusing, it would seem deliberate.
Mia nervously and anxiously handed the prescription to Barry, consoling herself that he couldn't possibly see through it.
At the same time, she remained disdainful of Ava's prescription. What kind of good prescription could she possibly write?
"Mia!" Barry's eyes fixed on the prescription, examining it carefully.
Mia bit her lower lip, her fingers nervously twisting together as she watched Barry's expression.
She thought to herself that this damn prescription Ava wrote—a terrible prescription—wouldn't get her scolded, would it?
"Mr. Myers, is there a problem?" Mia asked tentatively.
A flash of shock crossed Barry's eyes as he looked up.
"Mia, this prescription of yours is excellent, truly excellent. These herbs may seem ordinary, but combined together they have miraculous healing effects. I've been studying cardiology for so many years, and this is the first time I've seen such an ingenious prescription. Mia, your talent in medicine is immeasurable."
Mia's back teeth were about to crack, but she still smiled modestly. "Mr. Myers, you're too kind."
Ava!
It was Ava again. With this prescription, was Barry sure he wasn't mistaken?
Impossible!
